These photographs were mostly taken from the Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources (ADMMR) Mining collection, records on mineral resource exploration and mining in Arizona from late 1800s to the early 2000s. Photographs principally relate to a mineral locality reported in the Arizona Mineral Industry Location System. Photographs titled "ADMMR" document the history of the Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources, making up a little over 10 percent of the collection. Items were arranged alphabetically by prints and negatives, then slides and lastly Polaroids. The hyphenated number at the end of each title refers to the old numbering system employed by our dedicated volunteers and should not be...

This file contains information on shorebird nests found during Spoon-billed Sandpiper surveys including species, date found, location, and egg floatation information. These data do not represent all locations where specific avian species may be present, as surveys only occurred in discrete survey plots. Additionally, individual birds may have went undetected within survey plots, as detectability was likely less than 100%, and is a function of many variables, including differences in species, habitat, time-of-year, weather conditions, survey effort, and individual surveyor. The data providers have invested considerable effort in QA/QC, but it is possible that undetected errors remain. It is strongly recommended that...

Upland Sandpiper is one of many declining shorebird species (-4.6%/year in Alaska; Ziolkowski et al. 2023) which breed on military and adjacent lands in Alaska. Western and eastern populations are small and unstable, and the species is endangered at the state level in several eastern U.S. states (Houston et al. 2023). Though there has been considerable work with Upland Sandpipers in their core, central U.S. breeding areas, this is the first dedicated study of Upland Sandpipers in Alaska. The objectives are to resight, band, and track Upland Sandpiper at breeding sites in Delta Junction, AK and Donnelly Training Area (TA 501 & TA 511) to estimate vial rates, determine migratory connectivity, and determine important...

JABA, Inc. held properties in the historic Tombstone mining district and conducted extensive mineral surveys for porphyry copper during the period of the late 1970s into the 1990s. Their explorations focused on the greater Tombstone Metallic Mineral District including the Tombstone Caldera, identified by Jim Briscoe in 1988. The collection contains geologic maps, geophysical maps, drilling records, claim information, technical reports, environmental analyses, correspondence, photographs and assays. The contents are grouped into labeled binders by type and span approximately 60 feet of records.

John Kinnison earned his master's in geology from the University of Arizona in 1958. He spent over twelve years with ASARCO. He was a consultant to the mining industry from 1973 to the early 1980s. He specialized in porphyry copper exploration in the Southwest U.S., but also worked in Mexico, Canada and the Western U.S., exploring base and precious metal veins and replacements, uranium, mercury, and gold placers. His professional work included management, target generation, ore reserves and mine evaluation. He had a professional history of general exploration, mine geology, sampling methods, surface mapping, extensive reconnaissance observation and mapping, and successful exploration for new ore deposits. The collection...

Arizona’s long history of exploration and mining has resulted in the development of mineral resources across the state. By convention, individual prospects, deposits, and mines into mining districts as an organizational framework to refer to prospective areas for economic mineralization. However, there are no strict definitions of what constitute a mining district other than evidence of mineral potential. Thus, mining districts reflect areas with known mineralization, have diffuse boundaries, and may change over time as new discoveries are made. Mining districts provide a useful framework for both geologists and hobbyists for organizing information, with the past county reports on mineral resources organized from...

This data release includes grids representing the depth and thickness of drinking-water withdrawal zones, polygons of hydrogeologic settings, an inventory of sources of well construction data, and summaries of data comparisons used to assess the depth of groundwater used for drinking-water supplies in the United States. Well construction data sources are documented in Table1_DataSources.xlsx. Data comparisons using the Mann-Whitney test to assess similarity between hydrogeologic settings were used to justify combining data where they were sparse (compare_neighbors_all_domestic.txt and compare_neighbors_all_public.txt). Water-supply-well depth varies geographically by water use and the type of well, which illustrates...

Beginning in 2003, we have conducted a long-term shorebird breeding ecology study at Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska. The objectives of this study are to (1) collect baseline data on temporal and spatial variability of shorebird diversity and abundance, (2) collect information on nest initiation and effort, replacement clutch laying, clutch and egg size, nest and chick survival, and other demographic traits of Arctic-breeding shorebirds, (3) establish a marked population of as many shorebird species as possible that will allow us to estimate adult survival, mate and site fidelity, and natal philopatry, and (4) relate weather, food availability, and predator and prey abundances to shorebird productivity and survival....

Information on abundance, distribution, chronology, and habitat associations of birds at U.S. Air Force Long Range Radar Sites (USAF LRRS) and U.S. Navy lands is either outdated or lacking. In other situations, existing information has been obtained using a variety of incompatible methods thereby complicating the ability to discern changes to bird communities or the habitats they rely upon. Up-to-date information on the use of military lands by all bird species is important for both the Department of Defense (DOD) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Furthermore, updating avian inventories and implementing a standardized monitoring program across military lands helps USFWS-MBM by improving avian trend...
