The BLM's Top Recreation Opportunities Mapping Series is designed to provide users with recreational information by highlighting some of the highest quality BLM managed recreational opportunities across 246 million acres of public land. Using crowd-sourced data from partner organizations such as Access Fund and Mountain Project, the BLM is able to provide geospatial data and promote greater awareness of public lands. Users can now find the information needed to plan an exciting climbing trip, day hikes, and camping experience through the links on this site.

In the earliest days of World War II, The War Department realized the necessity for troops to be well trained under harsh conditions to withstand the rigors of battle over rough terrain and in inhospitable climates. Thus, the Desert Training Center, California-Arizona Maneuver Area (DTC-CAMA) was created in 1942. This operation was the largest military training ground in the history of military maneuvers. Young troops would carry that early training on to victory. Major General George S. Patton Jr., was the first Commanding General of the Desert Training Center. His first orders were to select other areas within the desert that would be suitable for the large-scale maneuvers necessary to prepare American soldiers...

The BLM hosts fire crews in six states that are specifically designed and configured to employee Veterans and provide career opportunities in fire and other land management careers. Employment periods generally run from early May through October. Each crew featured below has specific requirements and processes for employment. The Great Basin Landscape Conservation Cooperative draws on its Steering Committee and Science and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (S-TEK) partners to prioritize and support conservation science across the Great Basin region.
