The fossils in the Toulmin Collection were collected, described, researched, and published on by Lyman Toulman, a Cenozoic Gulf Coastal plain paleontologist and stratigrapher. The fossils in this collection are described with photographs and stratigraphic correlations in the Geological Survey of Alabama publication Monograph 12.
