This dataset provides numerical and categorical descriptions of 48 basin characteristics for 956 basins with observed streamflow information and 9,314 ungaged basins coinciding with 12-digit hydrologic unit code (HUC12) pour points that drain to the Gulf of Mexico. Characteristics are indexed by National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) version 2 COMID (integer that uniquely identifies each feature in the NHD) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) station number for streamflow-gaging station, where applicable. The variables represent mutable and immutable basin characteristics and are organized by characteristic type: physical (5), hydrologic (6), categorical (12), climate (6), landscape alteration (7), and land cover (12)....

This data release contains three data types that could potentially be used to infer spatiotemporal variability in groundwater discharge processes, along with other research and monitoring purposes: 1) Temporally continuous stream channel water temperature and adjacent streambank air temperature time series data (generally starting November 2020) as well as limited temperature data from May to October 2022 from select seeps and springs; 2) Discrete stable isotope data collected from stream water (May 2021, October/November 2021, May 2022, October/November 2022); and 3) Discrete dissolved radon gas data from stream water (collected May 2021 and May 2022). Data were collected at 51 temporary stations installed along...

This document provides a summary of surface water-quality, streamflow, and groundwater data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) within the Central Pine Barrens (CPB) Region of Suffolk County, New York. The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven under a five-year comprehensive water resources monitoring program. The surface water-quality data within the CPB for the 2018 water year (October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018) includes data from the Carmans River and the Peconic River. The streams were sampled several times throughout the year at seven pre-determined locations. The Carmans River was sampled at five locations: 1) CARMANS RIVER AT...

Managed aquifer recharge is a water-management strategy used to meet water demands during dry periods, or periods of high-water demand, when surface-water supplies are low. One method of managed aquifer recharge uses aquifer systems as subsurface reservoirs or ‘water banks’ to effectively and economically store surface water when surplus is available, and then recover the recharged groundwater to meet water demands during droughts. During these water shortages, increased groundwater pumpage can be used to offset shortfalls in surface-water supplies. Thus, surface-water reservoirs and water banks can be used conjunctively to effectively coordinate the use of groundwater and surface water. Data were compiled for ten...

Locations of focused (or ‘preferential’) groundwater discharge to surface water are often hydrologically and ecologically important, yet our ability to predict the spatial distribution and water quality of preferential riverbank discharges is limited at the scale of river networks. To advance the understanding of the physical controls on riverbank groundwater discharge processes, discharge zones can be mapped efficiently using handheld and drone-based thermal infrared cameras. Groundwater discharge locations can be identified based on ‘anomalous’ thermal signatures, such as relatively cold riverbank zones in summer and warm riverbank zones in winter. Thermal infrared imaging can be combined with concurrent direct...

This dataset supercedes an earlier data release and includes all previous data in addition to data from 2019. These data represent the network-adjusted results of relative- and absolute-gravity surveys. Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste D-series relative-gravity meter. The effect of solid Earth tides and ocean loading were removed from the data. Instrument drift was removed by evaluating gravity change during repeated measurements at one or more base stations. Absolute-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste, Inc. A-10 absolute-gravity meter. Vertical gradients between the different measuring heights of the absolute- and relative-gravity meters were measured using...

This U.S. Geological Survey data release provides surface-water quality, streamflow, and groundwater-elevation data collected within the Central Pine Barrens (CPB) Region of Suffolk County, New York. The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven as part of a five-year comprehensive water-resources monitoring program. Water quality and quality-assurance data from seven sites on two rivers (Carmans River- 5 sites and Peconic River - 2 sites) in the CPB are included. Carmans River sites were sampled four times throughout the year (fall, winter, spring, and summer) and Peconic River sites were sampled twice throughout the year (fall and spring). Water-quality...

This data release includes time series data of stage, water velocity and water quality parameters at multiple locations in the tidally-influenced reaches of the Nisqually River and McAllister Creek, and tidal channels of the Nisqually River Delta. In total, time series data were collected at multiple sites from February 11, 2016 to March 19, 2018 during separate but generally overlapping periods over a range of tidal and hydrologic conditions for augmenting hydrodynamic models that will be used to inform river delta restoration alternatives. Time series data were collected at 10 sites in the study area: 3 sites in the lower Nisqually River, defined here as the tidally-influenced reach downstream from Mounts Road;...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data were acquired in late February to early March 2018 along 2,364 line-kilometers in the Shellmound, Mississippi study area. Data were acquired by CGG Canada Services, Ltd. with three different helicopter-borne sensors: the CGG Canada Services, Ltd. RESOLVE frequency-domain AEM instrument that is used to map subsurface geologic structure at depths up to 100 meters, depending on the subsurface resistivity; a Scintrex CS-3 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (hundreds of meters to kilometers) geologic structure based on variations in the magnetic properties of different formations; and a Radiation Solutions RS-500 spectrometer that detects...

The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven as part of a five-year comprehensive water-resources monitoring program. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, updated basin-characteristic data for Oklahoma streams with drainage areas of less than 2,510 square miles. Basin characteristics were updated or created for 248 streamgages. The previously published Oklahoma generalized skew map, a necessary element in the development of the peak-streamflow frequencies was updated. Compared to a previous dataset described in (Lewis, 2010), this dataset incorporates an additional 9 years of annual peak-streamflow data, including 2 years when major peak-streamflows were recorded (2015 and 2017). The additional years of data collection since the publication...
