The model was acquired from Tyler Wagner (U.S. Geological Survey) (DeWeber & Wagner, 2014). Model outputs were composed of Ecological Drainage Units (EDUs), each of which was assigned a resulting mean predicted occurrence probability. The study region was determined by the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV) and represents the native range of the species on the East Coast. The polygons of interest were derived from the NHD plus dataset, with local catchments located at least 90% within the study region boundary. Presence data was taken from fish sampling records collected from state agencies and the Multistage Aquatic Resources Information System (MARIS), and these points were joined to the nearest stream...

Hellbender presence data was acquired from NatureServe and limited to points dating from 1980 to the present, with individual points adapted from the available data. Geospatial data was acquired from the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Land Cover Database (NLCD) and the Horizon Systems Corporation National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Version 2. The study was conducted over the extent of the Appalachian LCC. Environmental variables of consideration were determined through literature review and expert advice on the species (Personal correspondence, Quinn, 2009). Hellbender presence data was sub-sampled to reduce spatial bias. Pseudo-absence points were also calculated to be within 1 km of the position of the presence...

This shapefile contains total‐field marine magnetic data from eleven cruises of the USCGS ship Pioneer (OSS‐31) and one cruise from the USS Rehoboth (AGS‐50) in deep water off the west coast of the United States and southern British Columbia in 1955 and 1956. Magnetic anomalies are calculated with the latest definitive geomagnetic reference field (DGRF) included in the 12th Generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field model (Thébault and others, 2015). The marine magnetic data from these cruises were recovered from backup tapes that archived the work of Skaer and Hey in the late 1980s (Skaer, 1989). Fernandez and Hey (1991) merged these 1950s data with magnetic data from subsequent cruises. Raw data...

The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Condition Index ranks pixels (250-m) according to how well they meet the Desired State for the Open Pine habitat system, which is described qualitatively and quantitatively in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Higher values indicate sites closer to the Desired State. Value of 1 indicates areas appropriate for restoration but currently under an alternative land use (i.e. potential habitat). Please see PDF file in the Open Pine folder in the Blueprint Gallery at https://gcpolcc.databasin.org/ for a full...

This data represents an assessment of forest patch size used in the ecological assessment of upland hardwood systems by the GCPO LCC. We used a combination of remote sensing products including 2011 National Land Cover Database (NLCD) forest classes and the 2011 MAV forest classification layer produced by the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture to delineate patches of all forest types in the GCPO LCC. We used NLCD as the primary data source when assessing forests outside the GCPO LCC MAV subgeography, and the LMVJV forest classification as the primary data source for forest assessment within the MAV. NLCD was developed using 2011 Landsat TM imagery, with forest classes including only areas with trees exceeding...

Systematic conservation planning is well suited to address the many large-scale biodiversity conservation challenges facing the Appalachian region. However, broad, well-connected landscapes will be required to sustain many of the natural resources important to this area into the future. If these landscapes are to be resilient to impending change, it will likely require an orchestrated and collaborative effort reaching across jurisdictional and political boundaries. The first step in realizing this vision is prioritizing discrete places and actions that hold the greatest promise for the protection of biodiversity. The irreplacebility of the landscape was assessed to determine the importance of conservation. The number...

This layer represents the major road network of the U.S. Northern Rockies. It was created by merging Montana Department of Transportation "on-system" routes with Idaho Transportation Department "state highway system" routes, creating consistent attribute fields, then clipping to the U.S. Northern Rockies study area boundary.

Using GIS, the SILVIS Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison calculated housing and population counts at the block group level with data from the decennial U.S. Census to produce a spatially explicit dataset for the conterminous U.S. This data can help to understand where on the landscape the most and the least dense populations of people live. Housing density can be used as an indicator of urbanization and land-use intensification.

The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Protection Opportunity action map for the Forested Wetland habitat system ranks pixels (250-m) based primarily on the Forested Wetland Condition Index such that unprotected sites within healthy landscapes are ranked higher than those in very fragmented landscapes. Ranks are increased by information on existing partner interest (i.e. stated priority areas), elevated risk of change by 2060, and predicted occupancy of a majority of species identified in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Areas ranked as high...

Collection of 4 assessments for Med/Low-gradient Streams and Rivers. The Condition Index ranks stream segments according to how well they meet the Desired State described qualitatively and quantitatively in the draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). From the Condition Index, 3 assessments are derived that rank opportunities for management and restoration of conditions included in the Condition Index – Watershed Land Use, Riparian Cover, and Stream Meander. Watershed Land Use management opportunities are based on the proportion of undisturbed land in the contributing (i.e. cumulative) watershed such that stream segments meeting the Desired State are considered Maintenance opportunities (values 5-6). Those that do...

Landscape conservation cooperatives (LCCs) are conservation-science partnerships between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other federal agencies, states, tribes, NGOs, universities and stakeholders within a geographically defined area. They inform resource management decisions to address national-scale stressors, including habitat fragmentation, genetic isolation, spread of invasive species, and water scarcity, all of which are accelerated by climate change. This dataset represents the geographic boundary of the Appalachian LCC.

The proposed project focuses upon two major goals:1. Designate Priority Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Areas (PARCAs) in the South Atlantic Landscape, and develop an adaptive management plan for those areas.2. Determine whether PARCAs provide an effective strategy for integrated, long-term conservation of biodiversity and cultural resources in the South Atlantic Landscape; and develop a comprehensive biodiversity protection plan for the SALCC.To achieve these goals, we have identified the following objectives:Objective 1. Identify areas within the SALCC that are vitally important to preserving the rich diversity of amphibians and reptiles in the region, focusing upon rare species distribution, diversity, and...

Sage-grouse habitat areas divided into proposed management categories within Nevada and California project study boundaries. MANAGEMENT CATEGORY DETERMINATION The process for category determination was directed by the Nevada Sagebrush Ecosystem Technical team. Sage-grouse habitat was determined from a statewide resource selection function model and first categorized into 4 classes: high, moderate, low, and non-habitat. The standard deviations (SD) from a normal distribution of RSF values created from a set of validation points (10% of the entire telemetry dataset) were used to categorize habitat ‘quality’ classes. High quality habitat comprised pixels with RSF values < 0.5 SD, Moderate > 0.5 and < 1.0 SD, Low...

The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Management Opportunity action map for the Grasslands habitat system ranks pixels (250-m) for 3 general classes of conservation actions. Maintenance pixels (values 7-9) are currently estimated to meet the site condition Endpoints in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Enhancement pixels (values 4-6) are those that are currently classified as Grasslands but do not meet the site condition Endpoints in the Science Agenda. Restoration pixels (values 1-3) are those that are currently in a different land use but...

Collection of 3 assessments for Mainstem Big Rivers. The Condition Index ranks stream segments according to how well they meet the Desired State described qualitatively and quantitatively in the draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). From the Condition Index 2 assessments are derived that rank opportunities for management and restoration of conditions included in the Condition Index – In-stream habitat diversity (also related to flow), and floodplain/riparian conditions. In-stream management opportunities are based on watershed-level (HUC12) scores for habitat diversity, sinuosity and impoundment conditions such that river segments meeting all desired states are considered Maintenance opportunities (values 5-6)....
