This data release contains reflectance spectra of residue (senesced vegetation) for common row crops (corn, soybean, winter wheat) as well as diverse cover crops (cereals, legumes, brassicas) collected in the laboratory using Analytical Spectral Devices (ASD) spectrophotometers (n = 296) and collected in the field using the Italian Space Agency's spaceborne PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa (PRISMA) imaging spectrometer (n = 65). The data release also contains biochemical trait concentrations (nitrogen, nonstructural carbohydrates, holocellulose, and lignin) from physical samples used to evaluate biochemical trait mapping of cash crop and cover crop residue. Data collection occurred at the USDA-ARS...

Album caption and index card: The camera station is now in a dense stand of arrowweed. Many saltcedar plants grow around the edge of the gravel bar where a half century earlier only one plant was visible. In addition, two western honey mesquites, desert broom, Goodding willow, and desert isocoma grow near the shore. The flood-line community, mainly of catclaw with a few western honey mesquites, is still present but seems diminished. Close inspection of this community shows that there are numerous burro trails, and the basal portions of flood-line community shrubs are stripped of foliage where in reach of animals. Grand Canyon National Park. Mohave County, Arizona. August 25, 1972. Published as Figure 66-B in U.S....

Substantial incision and widening of Caulks Creek within the City of Wildwood, Missouri, in western St. Louis County, poses a threat to stormwater and transportation infrastructure along with effects to residential and recreational property. Hydrologic and hydraulic models were used to estimate probabilistic streamflows and characterize and assess spatial and temporal changes in erosion factors in a 5.4-mile reach of the Caulks Creek channel. A hydrologic model was developed using the Hydrologic Engineering Center Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) to assess existing and future (2050, 2099), climate-based changes in precipitation and associated changes in peak flows, volumes, and timing of peaks. Simulations...

A reach of the Sacramento River near Glenn, California, was selected as a field site to test a sensor payload developed by the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for estimating surface flow velocities in rivers. The payload, called the River Observing System (RiOS), can be deployed from an uncrewed aircraft system (UAS). RiOS includes visible and thermal cameras, a laser range finder, an inertial navigation system, an embedded computer for storing and processing data, and a wireless link for transmitting data to a ground station. This data release includes thermal imagery acquired by RiOS and stored in Robot Operating System (ROS) *.bag files. The bag files are organized...

The watershed data management (WDM) database SC21.WDM is updated with the processed data for the period October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021. The precipitation data are collected from a tipping-bucket rain-gage network and the hydrologic data (stage and discharge) are collected at USGS streamflow-gaging stations in and around DuPage County, Illinois. Hourly precipitation and hydrologic data for the period October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021, are processed following the guidelines described in Bera (2014) and Murphy and Ishii (2006) and appended to SC20.WDM and renamed as SC21.WDM. Meteorological data (wind speed, solar radiation, air temperature, dewpoint temperature, and potential evapotranspiration)...

A Bell 407 helicopter with a gyro-stabilized gimbal was used to collect aerial videos of Integrated Water Science basin riverine study sites in 2022. Videos were collected using both natural color and thermal infrared cameras. These videos were used to determine the feasibility of estimating river surface velocity using aerial imagery. Orthomosaic maps were produced from the natural color videos using photogrammetry techniques. Separate child pages were created to provide access to both the videos collected and the orthomosaic maps produced for each IWS basin (Delaware River, Illinois River, and Upper Colorado River).

U.S. Geological Survey Northeast Region inland to coastal bathymetric survey data are compiled to create a survey inventory providing survey records including survey system and product information, and links to survey datasets when available. Dataset footprints including this information and showing the location and extent of surveys can be downloaded as a shapefile or geodatabase, and can be accessed through Spatial Services provided here.
