These data describe the results of virus isolation from oropharyngeal/cloacal swabs and testing of sera by a commercial blocking enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (bELISA) and hemagglutinin (HA) specific testing by microneutralization (MN) and hemagglutination inhibition (HI) for Lesser Scaup in both the Atlantic and Pacific Flyways and Greater Scaup in the Pacific Flyway. These data support a USGS published manuscript.

Monitoring wild fish health and associated exposure effects in regions where agriculture and development have impacted rivers and streams has become a valuable research tool. Smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu) are a sensitive, indicator species that exhibit symptoms of immunosupression and endocrine disruption in response to water quality changes and contaminant exposure. In the Susquehanna River drainage, smallmouth bass have been used in biomonitoring assessments to help understand changes in the population due to poor young-of-the-year recruitment and health effects. This dataset contains records from implanted and not implanted temperature logging tags, body sizes of fish implanted with temperature logging tags, times the fish/tags were transferred from one temperature to another, and the time the temperature recorded by the tag equilibrated with ambient water conditions. Data were collected to compare thermal equilibration rate of temperature recording tags implanted in the coelomic cavity of lab reared brook trout to temperature recording tags not implanted in fish. Tagged fish and not implanted tags were moved rapidly between 8 C and 16 C and also subjected to slow (2 C per hour) thermal ramp.
These data have been collected by a collaborative and coordinated research network, SPARCnet (Salamander Population and Adaptation Research Collaboration network). We collected these data to examine patterns in seasonal and latitudinal variation in population density. This data can be used to estimate local salamander biomass, correcting for imperfect detection, and then compare these to estimates of biomass for other vertebrate species in North America that are known to have out-sized roles in ecosystem processes.
Our data include detailed information about 12 species of Anatidae broods encountered on four study areas in Maine during 1977–1994 as one dataset. The second dataset provides the characteristics of the wetlands which were monitored during the studies. The third dataset enumerates the effort (such as numbers of visits to each wetland) to determine numbers of broods and the number of young that reached Class IIC-III to fledge. Each wetland is described by size, pH, conductivity, and class according to the system of Cowardin and others (1979, Classification of wetlands and deepwater habitat of the United States, USFWS publication, 131 p.).
