This data release contains time series and plots summarizing mean monthly temperature and total monthly precipitation, and runoff from the U.S. Geological Survey Monthly Water Balance Model at 115 National Wildlife Refuges within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Mountain-Prairie Region (CO, KS, MT, NE, ND, SD, UT, and WY). The three variables are derived from two sets of statistically-downscaled general circulation models from 1951 through 2099. The three variables were summarized for comparison across four 19-year periods: historic (1951-1969), baseline (1981-1999), 2050 (2041-2059), and 2080 (2071-2089). For each refuge, mean monthly plots, seasonal box plots, and annual envelope plots were produced for each...

Airborne geophysical surveys were acquired in March 2018 and May 25 through August 7, 2021 using a helicopter-based platform. These surveys were collected along 10,706 line-kilometers (line-km) within selected areas of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) and the Chicot Aquifer System in the southeastern United States. The airborne geophysical surveys include electromagnetic, magnetic, and radiometric sensor data collected in rivers and levees throughout the two areas to evaluate groundwater and surface-water interaction, riverine ecosystems, and infrastructure. This data release contains three child items that provide: Minimally processed (raw) data supplied by the airborne contractor (Xcalibur Multiphysics)...

This data release contains cyanotoxin, chlorophyll-a, and pheophytin-a concentration, cyanobacterial genetics, phytoplankton community composition, and multiparameter sonde data collected from 20 sites in five northeastern United States river basins (Penobscot (ME), Santuit (MA), York (VA-WV), Salem (NJ), and Peconic (NY)). Solid Phase Adsorption Toxin Tracking (SPATT) passive samplers were deployed at all sites between August 31 and September 2, 2020, and retrieved after 7 days. Discrete water samples were collected when SPATTs were deployed, and at 2 sites (USGS station IDs 01670257, 0167014792), samples were also collected when the SPATTs were recovered. Sonde data were collected when deploying and retrieving...

A cells polygon feature class was created by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) to illustrate the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in the State of Pennsylvania. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown or dry. Data were retrieved from the Pennsylvania Internet Record Imaging System (PA*IRIS). Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying proprietary well data. No proprietary data are displayed...

This layer represents fundamentally suitable and unsuitable habitat for freshwater mussels in the Meramec Basin as modeled by these authors on May 17, 2017 based on spatial data ranging from 1990 to 2014. Identification of habitat characteristics associated with the presence of freshwater mussels is challenging but crucial for the conservation of this declining fauna. Most mussel species are found in multi-species assemblages suggesting that physical factors influence presence similarly across species. In lotic environments, geomorphic and hydraulic characteristics appear to be important factors for predicting mussel presence. We used maximum entropy (MaxEnt) modeling to evaluate hydrogeomorphic variables associated...

A cells polygon feature class was created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to illustrate the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in the State of Kentucky. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown or dry. Data were retrieved from the Kentucky Oil and Gas Well Records database and saved as a shapefile of oil and gas well locations for Kentucky. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying...

This data release provides quantitative whole rock geochemical results from The Geysers vapor-dominated geothermal field in California. The concentrations of major elements are reported in oxide weight percent by wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), the concentrations for sixty elements are reported in elemental weight percent (pct) or parts per million (ppm) from inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry-mass spectrometry ICP-OES-MS analysis, mercury is reported in ppm by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CVAAS), and ammonium in ppm from automated colorimetry analysis. The analyses show significant enrichment of volatile elements and elements such as sulfur, boron, arsenic,...

This data release provides semiquantitative mineralogy results from X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses of mineral scales from The Geysers vapor-dominated geothermal field in California. The mineral species and their abundances are reported in weight percent and values have been normalized to total 100 percent for each sample. The X-ray diffraction results show that the mineral samples from the wellheads are primarily composed of ammonium (NH4+) sulfate minerals and sassolite B(OH)3, whereas sulfide minerals such as cinnabar and pyrite are the most abundant minerals observed in the power plants. Mineral scales vary along the steam flow path, from the wellhead to power plants. Relatively abundant iron oxide and iron...

This Data Release accompanies the publication "State of stress in areas of active unconventional oil and gas development in North America" by J.-E. Lund Snee (now J.-E. Lundstern) and M.D. Zoback (2022) in the AAPG Bulletin. This dataset provides maximum horizontal stress (SHmax) orientation and relative stress magnitude (faulting regime) information that comprise a new-generation crustal stress map for North America. Relative stress magnitudes are presented using the AÏ• (A_phi) parameter, a single scalar that represents the ratio of the three principal stress magnitudes. Data were collected between 2015 and 2022. Data points for SHmax orientations, relative stress magnitudes, and the earthquake focal mechanisms...

The data are current as of 2006.

This dataset is associated with a USGS publication "Assessment of Undiscovered Oil and Gas Resources in the Eagle Ford Group and Associated Cenomanian-Turonian Strata, U.S. Gulf Coast, Texas, 2018" and summarizes data generated by the author for the publication using IHS Harmony DeclinePlus software. Data includes average estimated ultimate recoveries per square mile for three continuous oil assessment units with location information. Data is derived from IHS Markit data. No proprietary information is contained in this release.

This shapefile includes strike and dip information for the area of the Stillwater Complex, located in southwestern Montana. This dataset was created from pre-existing digital strike and dip information and from digitizing strike and dip locations from georeferenced map images. The data includes information about the strike and dip locations; the geologic unit and rock type the measurement was taken on; information about the source map, such as map title and scale; and other miscellaneous information. Version 2.0 includes additional strike and dip measurements and updated locations for many points resulting from maps that were re-georeferenced using high resolution lidar. For access to the previous version of this...

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the National Park Service, Yellowstone Center for Resources, as part of work for the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, has compiled a shapefile map of thermal areas and thermal water bodies in Yellowstone National Park. A thermal area is a continuous, or nearly continuous, geologic unit that contains one or more thermal features (e.g., hot springs, mud pots, or fumaroles); hydrothermally altered rocks and/or hydrothermal mineral deposits; heated ground and/or geothermal gas emissions; and is generally barren of vegetation or has stressed / dying vegetation. There are more than 10,000 thermal features in Yellowstone, most of which are clustered together into about 120...
