Open pit uranium mining in Atascosa, Karnes, and Live Oak Counties in the Texas gulf coast region was active during the second half of the 20th century. Understanding the history of these mining operations is important for proper management and restoration. Although some mines have extensive records documenting the locations and extents of mining pits and mine waste-rock piles, and provide descriptions of reclamation activities, abandoned mines with little to no such documentation are present on the landscape. A multiple lines of evidence approach using lidar derivatives and multispectral remote sensing temporal analysis (Stengel, 2022) was developed to (1) identify uranium mine waste-rock, wastewater, and land...

The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Dedicated Dredging on the Barataria Basin Landbridge (BA-36) project for 2018 and 2021. This data is used as a basemap land-water classifications. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems...

Twenty-three long-term mangrove vegetation plots were established between 1992-1997 within the southwest coastal region of Everglades National Park (Florida, USA) to quantify tree damage and recovery following hurricanes and to understand the effects of global climate change. Many of the mangrove vegetation plots were associated with hydrology, soil porewater, and soil surface elevation monitoring stations. Within each plot, trees were tagged, mapped, and identified to species. The diameter at breast height (DBH) and status of each tree were measured at one to two year intervals through 2011. This dataset includes 51,730 tree measurements.

The text file in CSV (comma-separated values) format contains marine magnetic data from 291 cruises in the Northern Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea. These data originate from two sources: 266 cruises from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Marine Trackline Geophysical Database (GEODAS) -- https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/metadata/landing-page/bin/iso?id=gov.noaa.ngdc:G00129 -- and 25 cruises from USGS holdings, including Scheirer and others (2023). Magnetic records were assigned one of three codes for quality and usability: 0=good data, -1=good data, but magnetic anomalies cannot be recalculated because of missing total field values (three...

Water-supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities throughout Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. Shepherd Mountain Lake is a water-supply lake used by the city of Ironton in southeastern Missouri. The surface...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) in compressed LAS (*.laz) format, generated from the July 17–18, 2023, hydrographic survey of the North Branch Chicago River and North Shore Channel in Cook County, Illinois. The survey extends from near the North Avenue Turning Basin and Goose Island in the south, upstream to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) Wilmette Pumping station in the north. The survey is a continuation of the bathymetric survey of the Chicago River and Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal (CS&SC) in Cook County, Illinois, conducted August 22–24, 2022 (Huizinga and Rivers, 2023). These data also include an ultra-high resolution resurvey of a large sunken vessel discovered...
