Malheur Lake is a shallow, freshwater lake in southeastern Oregon. This data release includes phytoplankton data from three sites located in Malheur Lake collected from 8/8/2018 to 8/11/2020. For each sample collected, the phytoplankton were reported to the lowest taxonomic unit. Phytoplankton biovolume, algal cell concentration, and algal biomass concentration are included. All phytoplankton data were generated by PhycoTech, Inc. The dataset includes two comma-separated values (.csv) files and metadata. The first CSV file includes all of the taxonomic, biovolume, and density information. The second CSV file includes the 111 unique taxa identified.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Illinois Center for Transportation and the Illinois Department of Transportation, prepared hydro-conditioned geographic information systems (GIS) layers for use in the Illinois StreamStats application. These data were used to delineate drainage basins and compute basin characteristics for updated peak flow and flow duration regression equations for Illinois. This dataset consists of raster grid files for elevation (dem), flow accumulation (fac), flow direction (fdr), and stream definition (str900) for each 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) area in Illinois merged into a single dataset. There are 51 full or partial HUC 8s represented by this data set: 04040002,...

An extreme flood in 2016 caused widespread culvert blockages and road failures across northern Wisconsin, including extensive damage along steep tributaries and ravines in the Marengo River watershed. Along with the flooding, there were fluvial erosion hazards (FEH) associated with a large amount of erosion in headwater areas. Of special concern were FEHs associated with gullying, loss of wetland storage, and valley-side mass wasting. In 2020, a pilot study was begun to map and classify ephemeral and perennial streams and wetlands in terms of their susceptibility to fluvial erosion hazards. This study combines rapid geomorphic field assessments of river corridor erosion and coupled sediment and debris delivery with...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, has compiled and processed a series of geospatial datasets for Hawaii to be implemented into the USGS StreamStats application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/ss/). These geospatial datasets, along with basin characteristic datasets published as a separate USGS data release (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9TOQANM), are used to delineate watersheds and determine basin characteristics in StreamStats.

These model archive summaries document surrogate regression models developed to estimate suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) at three USGS streamgages in New York: Mohawk River above State Highway 30A at Fonda, USGS site number 01349527; Schoharie Creek at Burtonsville, USGS site number 01351500; and Mohawk River at Cohoes, USGS site number 01357500. Ordinary least squares regression equations were developed between suspended-sediment concentration and turbidity using the U.S. Geological Survey Surrogate Analysis and Index Developer (SAID) Tool (Domanski and others, 2015) and methods described in Rasmussen and others (2009). Model summaries were developed following guidance in USGS Office of Surface Water...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, estimated flood magnitudes for the 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEP) for unregulated streamgages in Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Maui, and Hawaiʻi, State of Hawaiʻi, using data through water year 2020. Regression equations which can be used to estimate flood magnitude and associated frequency at ungaged streams were developed. The methods and results of the study are published in a separate report (https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20235014). This data release contains data supporting the larger work: (1) PeakFQ inputs and selected outputs for 238 selected streamgages...

A three-dimensional (3D) groundwater flow model of the glaciated sediments around Elkhart, Indiana was constructed as part of the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program using lithologic records from water well logs. Texture-based hydraulic conductivities were assigned to vertical intervals along each lithology record. A three-dimensional kriging program read texture-based hydraulic conductivity values for each vertical interval and calculated a continuous 3D distribution of hydraulic conductivity for the entire model domain. The model was calibrated to hydrologic conditions in May and June of 1979. The model was used to simulate groundwater flow paths from points of recharge to points of discharge....
