This data release documents statistics for simulating structural stormwater runoff best management practices (BMPs) with the Stochastic Empirical Loading and Dilution Model (SELDM)(Granato, 2013). The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed SELDM and the statistics documented in this report in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to indicate the risk for stormwater flows, concentrations, and loads to be above user-selected water-quality goals and the potential effectiveness of mitigation measures to reduce such risks. In SELDM, three treatment variables, hydrograph extension, runoff volume reduction, and water-quality treatment are modeled by using the trapezoidal distribution and the rank...

This imagery dataset consists of 3-meter resolution, lidar-derived imagery of the Wytheville 30 x 60 minute quadrangle in Virginia and North Carolina. The source data used to construct this imagery consists of 1 and 3-meter lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). The lidar source data were compiled from different acquisitions published between 2012 and 2021. The data were processed using geographic information systems (GIS) software. The data is projected in WGS 1984. This representation illustrates the terrain as a hillshade with contrast adjusted to highlight local relief according to a topographic position index (TPI) calculation.

This data release contains estimated monthly point-source nutrient loads for 97 municipal wastewater treatment plants, 20 industrial facilities, and 46 fish hatcheries and other aquaculture facilities that discharge within the watersheds draining to Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Washington, or discharge directly to those water bodies. The data, which cover the years 2005 through 2020, were used as input to a set of seasonal SPARROW total nitrogen and total phosphorus SPARROW models that were used to assess nutrient loadings to Puget Sound.

A monthly model of groundwater-transported nitrogen loads was developed for 12-digit hydrologic unit code (HUC12) watersheds on the north shore of Long Island Sound in coastal Connecticut and adjacent areas of New York and Rhode Island. As part of the analysis, potential management actions that upgraded septic systems or reduced fertilizer application to areas of turf-grass were also simulated. This compilation includes a zipped file (Tables.zip) of aggregated model outputs and datasets used in the model development. The zipped file contains a file dictionary (file_dictionary.csv) that includes the file name, title, and caption for each table and a data dictionary (data_dictionary.csv) that includes the variable...

This imagery dataset consists of 3-meter resolution, lidar-derived imagery of the Galax 30 x 60 minute quadrangle in Virginia and North Carolina. The source data used to construct this imagery consists of 1-meter, 1/9 arc-second (3-meter) and 3-feet lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). Lidar point cloud data (LPCs) were used to construct DEMs at a 3-meter resolution in parts of North Carolina. The lidar source data were compiled from different acquisitions published between 2018 and 2020. The data were processed using geographic information systems (GIS) software. The data is projected in WGS 1984. This representation illustrates the terrain as a hillshade with contrast adjusted to highlight local relief...

Information on radon occurrence in groundwater systems is important to assess risks from radon exposure. For this study we developed a novel passive method to measure for dissolved radon in groundwater using a coupled diffusive membrane encasing an alpha track (AT) detector. The membrane is gas permeable but water impermeable, which allows for the deployment of AT detectors in aqueous environments. The alpha track (AT) detectors measure the alpha decay of radon as it etches a film seated in the AT. Empirical relations have been developed to convert the etches or tracks from the film of the detectors to a radon concentration. Encasing the AT detectors in a membrane (called MAT detectors) prevents water from deteriorating...
