This dataset consists of 122 magnetotelluric (MT) soundings collected in 2016 in the northern Harrat Rahat, located near the holy city of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah in Saudi Arabia. These data were collected as part of a joint project between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Saudi Geological Survey examining the volcanic hazard associated with the harrat. Imaging the 3-D electrical resistivity structure of the crust and upper mantle beneath the harrat will help in understanding the magmatic system at depth.

Airborne geophysical surveys were conducted in the eastern Adirondacks from Dec. 7, 2015 - Dec. 21, 2015, by Goldak Airborne Surveys. The area was flown along a draped surface with a nominal survey height above ground of 200 meters. The flight line spacing was 250 meters for traverse lines and 2500 meters for control lines. Here we present downloadable magnetic and radiometric (gamma spectrometry) data from those surveys as image (Geotiff) and flight line data (csv format). Airborne geophysical surveys were acquired in March 2018 and May 25 through August 7, 2021 using a helicopter-based platform. These surveys were collected along 10,706 line-kilometers (line-km) within selected areas of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) and the Chicot Aquifer System in the southeastern United States. The airborne geophysical surveys include electromagnetic, magnetic, and radiometric sensor data collected in rivers and levees throughout the two areas to evaluate groundwater and surface-water interaction, riverine ecosystems, and infrastructure. Samples of vein-type magmatic-steam alunite were collected over several field seasons from five mines and prospects (L&N, Mt. Edna, Christmas, upper Mineral Products, and Close In) in the Alunite Ridge and Deer Trail Mountain area, Marysvale, Utah, as well as a sample from the Deer Trail mine workings from which sericite was separated. The magmatic-steam alunite and sericite were analyzed by the 40Ar/39Ar method to constrain the timing and duration of magmatic activity associated with the intrusion of two porphyry stocks beneath Alunite Ridge and Deer Trail Mountain. This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over parts of Montana in the vicinity of the Boulder Batholith. The airborne survey was jointly funded by the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative and Kennecott Exploration Company. The survey was designed to meet complementary needs related to geologic mapping and characterization of mineral resource potential. This data release provides semiquantitative mineralogy results from X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses of mineral scales from The Geysers vapor-dominated geothermal field in California. The mineral species and their abundances are reported in weight percent and values have been normalized to total 100 percent for each sample. The X-ray diffraction results show that the mineral samples from the wellheads are primarily composed of ammonium (NH4+) sulfate minerals and sassolite B(OH)3, whereas sulfide minerals such as cinnabar and pyrite are the most abundant minerals observed in the power plants. This data release includes the airborne magnetic survey data collected from the Iron Mountain-Menominee region of Michigan and Wisconsin. The Mineral Resources Program of the U.S. Geological Survey is tasked with understanding the nation's mineral resources. Precambrian rocks in the region are poorly mapped and understood. Detailed high-resolution airborne magnetic surveys, ground gravity surveys, and limited borehole data are being used to better understand the lithology and structure of both exposed and concealed Precambrian rocks. The primary goal of the airborne magnetic survey is to map lateral variations of magnetization that are related to differences in rock type.

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 1989 across the Idaho Batholith, Payette National Forest, Idaho, by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The primary focus is on geologic elements that relate to the Late Cretaceous Idaho batholith geometry and the development of the Yellow Pine mining district and Stibnite mining area. Twenty MT soundings along one 110-km long profile were acquired during the time period of July 19-27, 1989. This study was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey's Mineral Resources Program in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service.

Tephra samples were collected by Leah Morgan (now at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)) from the Hugub Area, Kesem-Kebena-Dulecha, Afar, Ethiopia. Sanidine grains were separated from the bulk sample and analyzed by argon geochronology at the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre, Scotland. The data indicate that the age of the Hugub Bed, which is rich in archarological artifacts, is ca. 500 ka. These results have broad implications in understanding late Acheulean archaeology in Ethiopia.
