The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Hopedale Hydrologic Restoration (PO-24) project for 2021. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their...

We used NLCD 2011, SSURGO, and SEGAP data to map the density of desired resources for open pine ecosystems and six focal species of birds and 2 reptiles within the historic range of longleaf pine east of the Mississippi River. Binary rasters were created of sites with desired characteristics such as land form, hydrology, land use and land cover, soils, potential habitat for focal species, and putative source populations of focal species. Each raster was smoothed using a kernel density estimator. Rasters were combined and scaled to map priority locations for the management of each focal species. Species’ rasters were combined and scaled to provide maps of overall priority for birds and for birds and reptiles. For...

This USGS data release includes a shapefile of outlet point locations for 12-digit hydrologic units (HU12s) from the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD), dated August 13, 2020 (U.S. Geological Survey and others, 2020), draining to the Gulf of Mexico in the south-central and southeastern United States. The outlet locations were derived by combining the WBD boundaries with flow direction grids from the National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus) v 2.1 (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Geological Survey, 2012). Most of the outlet locations were determined by finding the cell with highest flow accumulation from the NHDPlus flow-direction grids within each WBD HU12 boundary. Some locations were found to be...
This data release includes 2022 data for the Louisiana Outer Coast Restoration Project for North Breton Island. Specifically, this data release includes a detailed habitat map, general habitat map, georeferenced imagery, and a bare-earth digital elevation model (DEM) developed from light detection and ranging data. These habitat maps are developed using the methods and classification scheme from Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s (CPRA) Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) program. For more details on BICM habitat classes, see the Entity and Attribute Information section of the metadata. Please consult the accompanying readME.txt file for information and recommendations on the contents...

Coastal wetland ecosystems are expected to migrate landward in response to accelerated sea-level rise. However, due to differences in topography and coastal urbanization extent, estuaries vary in their ability to accommodate wetland migration. The landward movement of wetlands requires suitable conditions, such as a gradual slope and land free of urban development. Urban barriers can constrain migration and result in wetland loss (coastal squeeze). For future-focused conservation planning purposes, there is a pressing need to quantify and compare the potential for wetland landward movement and coastal squeeze. For 41 estuaries in the northern Gulf of Mexico (i.e., the USA gulf coast), we quantified and compared...
