Since its inception, the Everglades Depth Estimation Network (EDEN) has used the High Accuracy Elevation Dataset (HAED) digital elevation model (DEM) to provide scientists and managers with continuous water depth surfaces, derived from interpolated water stage, on a 400 X 400 meter grid. A new, high resolution LiDAR-based DEM is available through a collaboration between Everglades National Park (ENP) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program (3DEP). This new DEM covers the southern part of the EDEN extent, including a large area of ENP and a portion of southeast Big Cypress National Preserve. We determined the critical thermal maximum (CTMax) of six species of Eleutherodactylus frogs (Eleutherodactylus antillensis, Eleutherodactylus brittoni, Eleutherodactylus cochranae, Eleutherodactylus coqui, Eleutherodactylus juanariveroi, Eleutherodactylus wightmanae) to understand their response to warming temperatures. Data consist of capture history, body condition, and temperature at which the frog exhibited spasms and erratic behavior, which may impair predator avoidance. Our results underscored the potential vulnerability of Eleutherodactylus species exhibiting lower CTMax to the forecasted warming of tropical zones (e.g., E. wightmanae, E. brittoni).

This dataset includes annual encrusting organism (oyster, mussel, barnacle) counts and density (ind m-2), and oyster shell height (mm) data for five bio-engineered reef designs: OysterbreakTM (OB), Wave Attenuating Device® (WAD), Reef Ball™ (rows of two, RFB2; rows of three, RFB3), ReefBLKâ„  (RBL), and ShoreJAX™ (JAX). Data were collected during winter months (i.e., December-January) in 2017, 2018, and 2019 in low water when reefs were partially exposed.

Observations and subtle shifts of vegetation communities in Lake Erie have USGS researchers concerned about the potential for Grass Carp to alter these vegetation communities. Broad-scale surveys of vegetation using remote sensing and GIS mapping, coupled with on-the-ground samples in key locations will permit assessment of the effect Grass Carp may have already had on aquatic vegetation communities and establish baseline conditions for assessing future effects. Existing aerial imagery was used with object-based image analysis to detect and map aquatic vegetation in the eastern basin of Lake Erie.

Dataset containing information for white-tailed deer samples from Minnesota. Samples were genotyped for 11 microsatellites markers and sequenced for a fragment of approx. 546 bp belonging to the mitochondrial control region. Marker OvirQ should not be used as it presents alleles inconsistent with reported pattern, with some alleles separated by only 1 base pair and inconsistent between runs. Coordinates representing the centroid of Township-range-section of origin are given as UTM 15N.

These snag (dead tree) fall data were collected as part of long term forest dynamics data. Tree fall data were collected non-systematically as text comments until 2013, after which explicit snag fall data were collected on an annual basis. This particular dataset includes data from 23 plots in old-growth mixed conifer and montane conifer forests in Sequoia-Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks. The plots range in size from 0.9 ha to 2.5 ha and were established from 1982 to 2001. We used demography plot data through 2021 (collected before the extensive KNP Complex wildfire burned many of the plots). From 2017-2019, the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) analyzed microcystin concentrations in samples collected from three different studies. The first study was on the movement and distribution of invasive carp (Bighead Carp, Silver Carp, Grass Carp) in the upper Mississippi River between lock and dam 16 and lock and dam 19. Samples were collected from May through October of 2017 and 2018 from backwaters, impounded areas and main channel areas in this reach of the Mississippi River. Fifty-one tidal marsh sites across five regions (sub-embayments) were surveyed in the Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, central San Francisco Bay, and South San Francisco Bay. Vegetation surveys spanned ten years, from July 2008 to January 2018. A total of 5,112 plots were surveyed. Plots were positioned on transects along an elevation gradient and evenly distributed across each site, where possible, to capture spatial variability along elevation and distance gradients. At each plot, percent cover of all plant species, bare ground, and litter as well as average height was visually assessed within a 0.25 m2 quadrat. The mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is an abundant and wide-spread duck species that exhibits considerable variation in migratory behavior due to a relatively large body size and behavioral plasticity in habitat use. Understanding migration and other movements of mallards has societal interest in a wildlife management context because mallards are a preferred species of waterfowl by hunters and have the largest annual harvest of all duck species in the United States. We monitored juvenile mallards during autumn-winters 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 to determine factors associated with timing, distance, and direction of regional and migration movements during autumn-winter across the midcontinent of North America.

We characterized a natural sea louse epizootic of Caligus clemensi and the effects of parasitism on Pacific herring Clupea pallasii in Port Angeles Harbor, WA, USA. Infestation prevalence on newly metamorphosed age0 Pacific herring reached 100% prevalence by mid-August. At this time, the mean louse intensity was 4.6 lice and a positive correlation occurred between louse intensity and Pacific herring body length. The epizootic then waned, with infestation prevalence decreasing to less than 25% and the mean parasite intensity falling below 1 louse by October. This dataset includes stable carbon and nitrogen isotope values for the tissues and parasites of California sea lions and ice seals from California and Alaska coastal waters necropsied and harvested in 2009-2010 respectively. Stable carbon and nitrogen isotope data are useful for clarifying trophic relationships in host-parasite systems. These data were used in tandem with tissue mercury concentrations to explore the role of gastrointestinal parasites on pinniped mercury exposure. There are two files in this dataset: 1) A comma delimited machine-readable file (*.csv) that represents the data dictionary, and 2) a comma delimited machine-readable file (*.csv) containing the data.
White-nose syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease that has caused catastrophic population declines of bats in eastern North America, is rapidly spreading across the continent and now threatens previously unexposed bat species in western North America. The causal agent of WNS, Pseudogymnoascus destructans, can infect many species of hibernating bats, but susceptibility to WNS varies by host species. Predicting which western bat species will be most susceptible to WNS would be of great value for establishing conservation priorities. These data show details of time taken to fit tail tags on horses at Herd Management Areas in Utah and Nevada. We provide the time of day that individuals entered and exited a squeeze chute and the resulting duration of time they were in the squeeze to have the tag affixed (among other things) at BLM facilities, as well as the sex and age of the individual, and dates that tail tags were deployed and last seen in the tail.

In 1990 the US Geological Survey Fort Collins Science Center and National Park Service Water Resources Division established 133 permanent 1meter (m) X 2 m plots along the Gunnison River near Warner Point in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. A one-dimensional hydraulic model was calibrated to determine the inundation necessary to inundate each plot, and this can be combined with daily flow data to determine the inundation duration or percentage of time a plot is under water. This dataset contains sample collection information and microsatellite genotype data for Northern Black Swifts in 6 colonies across Colorado, New Mexico and Idaho. This data was collected to examine levels of genetic diversity and connectivity among Black Swift colonies and also to assess parentage at a subset of those sites. This study helps clarify the breeding system of the Black Swift and is the first study to determine parentage of a subset of offspring using molecular methods.

These data refer to habitat and activity data collected for female desert tortoises being monitored as part of a study on juvenile rearing and translocation for population augmentation purposes. The females were affixed with radio transmitters and radio tracked at least monthly to maintain knowledge of whereabouts. During those tracking events activity data were collected (surface or in burrows) and predominate habitat community recorded. Ancillary to this goal a habitat use study was conducted to determine the type of habitat occupied by females. Thus the data reference female morphology, activity, and a single instance of habitat use.

We trapped small mammals at two sites in Badlands National Park, Pennington County, South Dakota from 2013-2017; two sites in Larimer County, Colorado from 2010-2011; and four sites in Adams County, Idaho from 2014-2017. Each site contained at least one or more treated plots (deltamethrin dust applied to burrows or bait stations for flea control) paired with one or more non-treated plots.
