This Data Release contains geospatially-enabled geological data to accompany the Geologic Map of the Central Beaverhead Mountains, Lemhi County, Idaho, and Beaverhead County, Montana: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3413. This map portrays detailed geology of the central Beaverhead Mountains, printable at 1:50,000 scale. These data were collected between 1997 and 2017, and synthesized to provide significant new stratigraphic and structural data and interpretations. Generalized basin geology compiled from sources on both sides of the range is combined with newly mapped bedrock geology to better integrate geologic development of the map area. These data are shared to meet open data requirements...

A groundwater level survey and reconnaissance of the hydrologic conditions in the South Coast aquifer in the Santa Isabel area of southern Puerto Rico was conducted during March 31 to April 17, 2014. The field survey included groundwater level measurements at 55 wells and instantaneous streamflow measurements at 15 locations in streams and irrigation canals. A potentiometric surface map of the alluvial aquifer provides an indication of the directions of groundwater flow. The objective of the field survey was to delineate the potentiometric surface of the study area defined as the South Coast aquifer between the Río Descalabrado to the west and the Río Jueyes to the east of the town of Santa Isabel. Instantaneous...

A new data layer provides global coastal segments at 1 km or shorter resolution produced from a partitioning of a 30 m Landsat-derived shoreline vector that was segmented into 4 million 1 km or shorter segments. Each segment was attributed with values from 10 variables that represent the ecological settings in which the coastline occurs, including properties of the adjacent water, adjacent land, and coastline itself. The 4 million segments were classified into 81,000 coastal segment units (CSUs) as unique combinations of variable classes.

Laboratory slide-hold-slide tests, combined with flow through tests, conducted on Westerly granite with 30 degree sawcut. Tests were conducted with a constant confining pressure of 30 MPa with an average pore pressure of 10 MPa at temperatures of 23 and 200 degC. Three fluid flow conditions were examined (1) no flow, (2) cycled flow, and (3) continuous flow.

The refractory nature of zircon to temperature and pressure allows even a single zircon grain to preserve a rich history of magmatic, metamorphic, and hydrothermal processes. Isotopic dating of micro-domains exposed in cross-sections of zircon grains allows us to interrogate this history. Unfortunately, our ability to select the zircon grains in a heavy mineral concentrate that records the most geochronologic information is limited by our inability to predict internal zonation from observations of whole zircon grains. Here we document the use of a petrographic microscope to observe and image the photoluminescence (PL) response of whole zircon grains excited under ultraviolet (UV) light, and the utility of this PL...

The geospatial data presented here as ArcGIS layers denote landcover/landuse classifications to support field sampling efforts that occurred within the Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB) from 2010-2017. Manual photointerpretation of a National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) dataset collected in 2012 was used to characterize landcover/landuse categories (hereafter habitat classes). Initially 9 categories were assigned based on vegetation structure (Vegtype1). These were then parsed into two levels of habitat classes that were chosen for their representativeness and use for statistical analyses of field sampling. At the coarsest level (Landcover 1), five habitat classes were assigned: Agriculture, Riparian, Floodplain,...

The USGS Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center (WY–MT WSC) completed a report (Sando and McCarthy, 2018) documenting methods for peak-flow frequency analysis following implementation of the Bulletin 17C guidelines. The methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 50-, 42.9-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) for selected streamgages operated by the WY–MT WSC. This data release presents peak-flow frequency analyses for Elk Creek at Augusta, Montana, that were based on methods described by Sando and McCarthy (2018). The U.S. Geological Survey maintains a program of water-quality studies in San Francisco Bay (CA) that began in 1969. This USGS data release archives and makes available all measurements from 1969-2015. Water-quality constituent measurements include salinity, temperature, light attenuation coefficient, and concentrations of chlorophyll-a, dissolved oxygen, suspended particulate matter, and dissolved inorganic nutrients (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, phosphate and silicate). Since the mid-1990s, sampling was conducted at least monthly at 37 fixed sampling locations along a 145-km transect from lower South San Francisco Bay to the lower Sacramento River. A map and table of sampling locations are included in the Attached...

The U.S. Geological Survey Toxic Substances Hydrology Program at Cape Cod has been investigating the fate and transport of a treated-wastewater, groundwater contaminant plume. A portion of the contaminated groundwater discharges into Ashumet Pond, a kettle hole, freshwater lake. A study was conducted from June 2013 to June 2015 to document transport, transformation, and discharge of dissolved inorganic nitrogen species (DIN; nitrate, nitrite, and nitrous oxide) from the contaminant plume to the lake, across the groundwater-surface water interface. As part of that study, in October 2014, two natural gradient tracer tests were conducted within the lake bed sediments using nitrite as a reactive tracer and bromide as...

These data represent input and estimates from a medium-resolution (1:100,000 scale) NHDPlus SPAtially Referenced Regression on Watershed attributes (SPARROW) model for the Chesapeake Bay watershed (CBSS_v2). The model spatially correlates long-term mean annual suspended-sediment flux in 113 non-tidal streams to likely upland and stream-corridor sources, landscape factors affecting upland sediment transport and delivery to stream corridors, and fluvial and reservoir retention representing the early 2000 time period. The item COMID is a common related field between the data file and the spatial component (catchments) in NHDPlus version 1.0.

The data are part of a larger, long-term project of lesser scaup on Lower Red Rock Lake, Montana, 2004-2015, conducted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. This segment of the data has summarized results of late summer resighting surveys of nasal-marked adult females and GIS-derived habitat attributes. Scaup resighting surveys were conducted mid-August to early September, 2007-2013. The study site was divided into 16 survey plots (as shown as grid in figure); each plot comprised one to four 750 × 750 m survey blocks such that plots contained roughly equivalent area of open water Survey data included GPS location, number, and social status of marked females, wind conditions, and group size of other scaup associated...

North American sagebrush-steppe ecosystems have decreased by about 50 percent since European settlement. As a result, sagebrush-steppe dependent species, such as the Gunnison sage-grouse, have experienced drastic range contractions and population declines. Coordinated ecosystem-wide research, integrated with monitoring and management activities, is needed to help maintain existing sagebrush habitats; however, products that accurately model and map sagebrush habitats in detail over the Gunnison Basin in Colorado are still unavailable. This research employs a combination of methods, including (1) modeling sagebrush rangeland as a series of independent objective components that can be combined and customized by any...

This package includes a detailed habitat map, general habitat map, and georeferenced imagery from 2015 for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Caillou Lake Headlands project area (TE-0100), also known as Whiskey Island. The project created 170 acres of marsh habitat and 917 acres of dune and beach habitat on Whiskey Island in Terrebonne Parish using material dredged from Ship Shoal. The habitat maps are part of a suite of Whiskey Island habitat maps for the years 2012, 2015, and 2017–19, which span the time period before, during, and after the restoration project was conducted. For more information on this restoration project, see the project page on Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s...
