This data set presents the results of conducting Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry on core samples of the mudstone underlying the Naval Air Warfare Center, West Trenton, New Jersey. The core samples were selected from the continuous core collected from boreholes 83BR-89BR.

These data sets present results from the analyses of groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells and monitoring intervals in bedrock wells in the mudstone aquifer underlying the former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. The water samples were collected between 2008 and 2013 and were analyzed for field parameters, inorganic and organic constituents, and the abundances of selected microbes of importance to the evaluation of biological degradation of organic contaminants in groundwater. The collection and analyses of the groundwater samples coincides with conducting a bioaugmentation experiment in a targeted region of the mudstone aquifer. The purpose of the bioaugmentation was to introduce...

This data release consist of the annual sediment depositional volume at five floodplain and five point bar sites on Powder River in southeastern Montana from 1979 through 2017. These 10 sites are a subgroup of a larger group of cross-sections established in 1975 and 1977 to monitor the channel changes along a 90-kilometer reach of Powder River. In addition to the sediment deposition data, characteristic of the annual peak flood are listed. The data are in 1 Excel files containing worksheets (10) corresponding to each channel cross-section .

The consequence of the 1996 Buffalo Creek wildfire disturbance and a subsequent high-intensity summer convective rain storm (~100 mm h-1) was the deposition of a sediment superslug in the Spring Creek basin (26.8 km2) of the Front Range Mountains in Colorado. Changes in the superslug near the confluence of Spring Creek with the South Platte River were monitored by cross-section surveys at 18 nearly equally-spaced cross sections along a 1500 m study reach for 18 years (1996-2014) to understand the evolution and internal stratigraphy of this type of disturbance in response to different geomorphic processes. These data consist of 18 Excel files (one for each cross section) containing worksheets corresponding to each...

This data set presents the lithologic interpretation of rock cores from boreholes 83BR-89BR collected from the mudstone aquifer underlying the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. Continuous core from these boreholes was collected and visually interpreted to identify characteristics of the depositional environment of the mudstone. Three types of mudstone were identified: a black-fissile mudstone (BLK-FIS); a gray-laminated mudstone (GRY-LAM); and a gray massive mudstone (GRY-MAS). The BLK-FIS mudstone is associated with a deep-water depositional environment. The GRY-MAS mudstone is associated with a shallow-water depositional environment. The GRY-LAM mudstone is associated with a transitional depositional...

This dataset includes physical and hydraulic properties at selected sites in interior Alaska. Physical properties include dry bulk density, loss on ignition, saturated soil water content, and particle size distribution. Hydraulic properties include field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, soil-water retention data, and parameters used in a common soil-water retention model (van Genuchten model). Volumetric soil-water content profiles with depth are also included. Note that unburned locations are denoted with UB and burned locations are denoted with B.

This data release presents chemical and biological results from investigations of water quality, fish endocrine disruption, and emergent insects in the Shenandoah River Watershed (Virginia and West Virginia, USA) conducted during 2014, 2015, and 2016. Multiple sampling campaigns were conducted at sites located throughout the Shenandoah River Watershed (Table 1). The complex inorganic and organic chemical characteristics of river waters and wastewater treatment plant effluents were characterized using 21 separate analytical methods at 7 laboratories (Tables 2, 3, and 4). To assess the relations between water composition and fish endocrine disruption, 21-day mobile laboratory adult fathead minnow exposure experiments...

This USGS data release includes all the data presented in peer-reviewed publication entitled "Degradation of MCHM (4-methylcyclohexanemethanol) in Sediments from Elk River, West Virginia". We conducted experiments on crude MCHM to examine photooxidation or biodegradation. We also assessed the potential of sediments to serve as a long-term source of MCHM and well as the potential for native microbial communities to catalyze the anaerobic breakdown of MCHM. We developed a quantitative method to measure the 2 isomers (cis- and trans-) of 4-MCHM, using solid phase micro-extraction (SPME), which had a minimum detection limit of 5 µg/L. The data release shows that the abiotic degradation experiments showed no evidence...

These data sets present results for analyses of the fraction of total and organic carbon in samples of rock core collected from boreholes 83BR, 84BR, 85BR, 86BR, 87BR, 88BR, and 89BR in the Lockatong Formation (mudstone) underlying the former Naval Air Warfare Center, West Trenton, New Jersey.

This data set presents results from two groundwater tracing experiments conducted in the mudstone aquifer underlying the former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. In each test, a bromide solution was introduced into a hydraulically isolated section of borehole 36BR (denoted as 36BR-A); the hydraulically isolated section of the borehole isolated specific bedding plane parting fractures intersecting the borehole 36BR. In the first test, initiated in July 2007, water samples were collected from borehole 15BR; borehole 15BR is outfitted with a submersible pump operating continuously as part of the pump-and-treat operation at the NAWC to prevent off-site migration of groundwater contaminants. In the second...

This data release consists of four Excel files (one for each cross section) containing worksheets corresponding to each channel cross-section survey (~25-31) between 1996 and 2014. These worksheets contain the basic survey data (dates, instruments, reference elevations, foresights, distances from reference pins, and elevations). An additional worksheet contains the measured unit-volume (m^3/m) of chronostratigraphic units deposited during the time interval between two sequential surveys and the unit-volumes of each chronostratigraphic unit eroded during the same time interval. A final worksheet contains the age and transit-time distributions for selected surveys.

This data release provides measurements of dye concentration collected to support and validate numerical simulations of dispersion on the Kootenai River, downstream of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. On August 13, 2008, at 06:00, 25.4 kilograms of rhodamine WT was diluted using raw river water in a 378.5 liter tank and released as a nearly single slug. The dye was released near River Kilometer (RKM) 239 over a period of 17 minutes. From 06:01 – 06:10 the dye was released at a fairly constant rate, and from 06:10 – 06:18 the dye was released at a slower rate associated with cleaning and rinsing the tank. Measurements of dye concentration were made using water quality sondes with 6130 rhodamine probes. Two sampling strategies...
