This data release provides source code and an R workspace with functions comprising a non-linear baseflow separation model, calibrated values of parameters and estimates of the baseflow component of daily streamflow at selected streamflow gages. Parameter values were determined by calibration of the model. Estimates of the baseflow component include daily values and the total baseflow as a fraction of streamflow for the analysis period. The file 'run_bf_sep.zip' in the directory 'Nonlinear Baseflow Model Source Code, Functions, and Scripts" has a complete set of model functions, parameters for 13,208 USGS streamflow gages, and a script to run the model. Instructions and software requirements for running the model...

Note: This data release has been superseded by version 3.0, available here: http://doi.org/10.5066/P9UGEZPT This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides phytoplankton data collected from Cheney Reservoir, Kansas, during June 2001 through October 2016. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. This data release was produced in compliance with the open data requirements as a way to make scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. The dataset includes all routine and quality-assurance/quality-control samples collected at the long-term sampling site on Cheney Reservoir near Cheney Dam (USGS station...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has developed and implemented an algorithm that identifies burned areas in temporally dense time series of Landsat Analysis Ready Data (ARD) scenes to produce the Landsat Burned Area Products. The algorithm uses predictors derived from individual ARD Landsat scenes, lagged reference conditions, and change metrics between the scene and reference conditions. Scene-level products include pixel-level burn probability (BP) and burn classification (BC) images corresponding to each Landsat image in the ARD time series. Annual composite products are also available by summarizing the scene-level products. Prior to generating annual composites, individual scenes that had > 0.010 burned proportion...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides phytoplankton data collected as part of an advanced harmful algae bloom (HAB) monitoring study conducted in collaboration with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). Samples were collected biweekly in association with continuous monitoring platforms in Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes, Finger Lakes Region, New York and one opportunistic bloom sample site at Emerson Park Boat Launch in Owasco Lake. The platforms were deployed from May-November in 2019 and June-October in 2020. This dataset includes all routine and quality assurance/quality control samples collected at the four sampling locations on the three lakes: three...

Fire history metrics enable rapidly increasing amounts of burned area data to be collapsed into a handful of data layers that can be used efficiently by diverse stakeholders. In this effort, the U.S. Geological Survey's Landsat Burned Area product was used to identify burned area across CONUS over a 40-year period (1984-2023). The Landsat BA product was consolidated into a suite of annual BA products, which in-turn were used to calculate a series of contemporary fire history metrics (30 m resolution). Fire history metrics included: (1) fire frequency (FRQ), (2) time since last burn (TSLB) and (3) year of last burn (YLB), (4) longest fire-free interval (LFFI), and (5) average fire interval length (FIL). All metrics...

This data set contains information on zooplankton and associated environmental parameters for sampling conducted in the San Joaquin River and False River near their confluence at Jersey Point (Contra Costa County, California), during February-March, 2016. Macrozooplankton were sampled with vertical tows (bottom to surface) of a 50 cm-diameter conical plankton net that was 150cm long with 102µm mesh. Samples were preserved in the field in 10% formalin for laboratory processing that was conducted by a contractor (EcoAnalysts, Inc). Complete and accurate burned area map data are needed to document spatial and temporal patterns of fires, to quantify their drivers, and to assess the impacts on human and natural systems. In this study, we developed the Landsat Burned Area (BA) algorithm, an update from the Landsat Burned Area Essential Climate Variable (BAECV) algorithm. We present the BA algorithm and products, changes relative to the BAECV algorithm and products, and updated validation metrics. We also present spatial and temporal patterns of burned area across the conterminous U.S. and a comparison with other burned area datasets. The BA algorithm identifies burned areas in analysis ready data (ARD) time-series of Landsat imagery from 1984...

This data release provides a map of the time-averaged shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m (Vs30) for California using the method described by Thompson and others (2014). There are two adjustments to the algorithm described by Thompson and others (2014), which is built on the geology-based Vs30 map by Wills and Clahan (2006). In this data release, we use the Wills and others (2015) updated geology-based Vs30 map. The second change is that we have adjusted the kriging procedure so that measured Vs30 values do not affect the predictions across distinctly different geologic units. July 2022 Update (ver. 2.0) Resolution is now 3 arcseconds instead of 7.5 arcseconds Fixed a code error that prevented some of the Vs30...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides phytoplankton data collected from 18 Texas reservoirs during August through October, 2016. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. This data release was produced in compliance with the open data requirements as a way to make scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. The dataset includes all routine and quality assurance/quality control samples collected at each of the sites. Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level and abundance (density reported as both natural units and cells) and biovolume are reported.
