Model of habitat utilization by synanthropic avian predators: common ravens (Corvus corax), American crows (Corvus brachyrhynchos), and black-billed magpies (Pica hudsonia). The former two species show increasing nation-wide population trends, and common ravens in the Mojave desert have been shown to have detrimental effects on threatened desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) populations. Power lines are used by common ravens and other raptors for nesting and as hunting perches. Linear features such as railroads, primary and secondary roads, and irrigation channels often serve as travel routes for these predators, and expand their movements into previously unused regions. Numbers of synanthropic avian predators increase...
Greater sage-grouse population components devrived using an 18-km maximum connection distance. Analysis was conducted using the CONEFOR SENSINODE 2.2 software package and this dataset was developed from lek data obtained from the state wildlife agencies. Components containing < 5 leks have been removed in order to protect the location of single or small groups of leks.

This GIS dataset is the primary data product produced for the NW Climate Science Center-funded project, "Rangewide climate vulnerability assessment for threatened Bull Trout" (FRESC Study ID 851). We used predictions of temperatures in streams across approximately two-thirds of the species' range in the U.S. to map coldwater streams or “patches” suitable for spawning and early rearing of Bull Trout. Each patch consists of streams with contiguous reaches of cold water. Patches were delineated using medium resolution National Hydrography Dataset streams containing modeled temperatures available at 1 km intervals, as provided by the NorWeST project (http://www.fs.fed.us/rm/boise/AWAE/projects/NorWeST.html).Once the...

This map layer shows polygons of average annual precipitation in thecontiguous United States, for the climatological period 1961-1990.Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model (PRISM)derived raster data is the underlying data set from which the polygonsand vectors were created. PRISM is an analytical model that uses pointdata and a digital elevation model (DEM) to generate gridded estimatesof annual, monthly and event-based climatic parameters.

This metadata references the polygonal ARC/INFO GIS cover showing the current and historic distribution of potential habitat, or range, of the Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) and Gunnison Sage-grouse (Centrocercus minimus) in Western North America. This data was initially researched and compiled by Dr. Michael A. Schroeder, research biologist for the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The initial draft of current and historic range data was mapped and submitted to state, federal, or provincial natural resource agencies and other experts for review, comment, and editing. The final product represents the best available science and expert review available at the time of compilation.Definition...

This layer represents lines which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridor centerlines for the final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008.

Humans have dramatically altered wildlands in the western United States over the past 100 years by using these lands and the resources they provide. Anthropogenic changes to the landscape, such as urban expansion, construction of roads, power lines, and other networks and land uses necessary to maintain human populations influence the number and kinds of plants and wildlife that remain. We developed the map of the human footprint for the western United States from an analysis of 14 landscape structure and anthropogenic features: human habitation, interstate highways, federal and state highways, secondary roads, railroads, irrigation canals, power lines, linear feature densities, agricultural land, campgrounds, highway...
This map depicts the proportion of non-Sage-grouse habitat with 18km of each pixel. The map was produced using a moving window analysis on the Distribution of Non-Sage Grouse Habitat in the Conservation Assessment Area with a search radius of 18km. The product of the moving window was the mean pixel value within the window. This map has a 540m resolution.

This map was developed to examine multi-scale spatial relationships between percentage of sagebrush and other response variables of interest. A map of sagebrush in the western United States was used as a base layer for a moving window analysis to calculate the percentage of the area classified as sagebrush within a 100-km search radius.

This data set depicts federal lands having restrictions on access or activities -- that is, lands mangaed by the National Park Service, Defense Department, or Energy Department -- in western North America. The data set was created by reformatting and merging state- and province-based ownership data layers originally acquired from diverse sources (including state GAP programs, USBLM state offices and other sources). For each original dataset 3 additional fields, "Pub_Pvt", "CA_OWN", and "SOURCE" were added and populated based on the specific ownership information contained in the source data. The original coverages were then merged based on the "CA_OWN" field. Finally, NPS, DOD, and DOE lands were selected out of...

A summary data set of all fire polygons we could locate as of December 2007. We used multiple datasets to develop this layer, including data gathered from the internet, publically available databases, and personal contacts with dozens of agency personnel throught the western U.S. Data were assessed for utility (but not accuracy) and formatted for consistency. Each source data set was then attributed consistently with fields for record number and year (of fire). Because various resource management entities map fires somewhat independently (especially in more recent years) we merged overlapping polygons for each year. Users are encouraged to understand the contents of this data file before using it.

This data was produced to examine the extent and location of human induced fires throughout the western United States. The National Fire Occurrence Database (1986-1996) and additional government agency fire occurrence databases were queried for human induced fires between 1986 and 2001.

Data represents an estimate of oil and natural gas pipeline densities in the intermountain west based on data collected depicting pipeline locations in the study area. These data represent (for the most part) only larger volume, long distance pipelines and not the shorter, lower volume (so-called 'flowlines') associated with specific fluid energy producing sites. HOWEVER, THESE DATA ONLY REPRESENT THAT PORTION OF ACTUAL ON-THE-GROUND AND BURIED PIPELINES THAT HAVE BEEN MAPPED and that we were able to acquire durng th course of our study. THEREFORE, THIS DATASET IS KNOWN TO BE INCOMPLETE. The actual pipline locations are not shown here. Rather this is a grid representing pipeline density in Km/Km^2. DUE TO THE SENSITVE...
