This data set provides a polygon shapefile delineating relatively large, slow-moving (4-17 cm/year in the radar line-of-sight direction) landslides in the continental U.S. western coastal states (California, Oregon, and Washington). The polygons also are provided in a Google Earth .kmz file. Delineated landslides were identified from displacement signals captured by InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) interferograms of ALOS PALSAR (Advanced Land Observing Satellite; Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) images between 2007 and 2011, and ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 images between 2015 and 2019. This dataset of the elevation of basement and thickness of sediment above the syn- and post-rift unconformity (sediments above being generally Late Cretaceous and younger) was constructed for application to site response models in earthquake hazard analyses. Sediment thickness in meters is provided in zipped csv format on a 0.01-degree grid, and sediment thickness and basement elevation in meters relative to mean sea level are provided in GeoTIFF format on a 1-km grid.
This data release contains four GIS shapefiles, one Google Earth kmz file, and five metadata files that summarize results from Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) analyses in the Glacier Bay region of Alaska and British Columbia. The principal shapefile (Moving_Ground) and the kmz file (GBRegionMovingGround) contain polygons delineating slow-moving (0.5-6 cm/year in the radar line-of-sight direction) landslides and subsiding fan deltas in the region. This data release includes time-series data of rock temperature, air temperature, wind speed, and humidity at the Chalk Cliffs debris-flow monitoring site in central Colorado (Latitude: 38.73330, Longitude: -106.18704). The data were collected to help identify the environmental controls on rates of rockfall, which is the primary source of debris-flow material at the site. Data were recorded at 1-minute intervals between November 2011 and August 2015. This data release provides a map of the time-averaged shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m (Vs30) for California using the method described by Thompson and others (2014). There are two adjustments to the algorithm described by Thompson and others (2014), which is built on the geology-based Vs30 map by Wills and Clahan (2006). In this data release, we use the Wills and others (2015) updated geology-based Vs30 map. The second change is that we have adjusted the kriging procedure so that measured Vs30 values do not affect the predictions across distinctly different geologic units. This data release includes geochronological data for a paleoseismic trench exposure of the Sawtooth fault, Idaho at the Dutch Lake site (44.343806, -115.17643). Laboratory data include 14 charcoal radiocarbon ages processed at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Facility (NOSAMS) and 8 infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) ages for feldspar processed at the U.S. Geological Survey Luminescence Dating Laboratory. The radiocarbon and luminescence samples were collected September 2022.
