We initiated a project in 2011 to identify lake-wide movement patterns and spawning areas of invasive lake trout in Yellowstone Lake, WY. We implanted acoustic transmitters in lake trout and established a network of stationary telemetry receivers in Yellowstone Lake. Lake Trout tagged with acoustic transmitters (Vemco V - series) were tracked with stationary acoustic receivers (Vemco VR2W - 69 kHz) from 2011 to 2015. The number of active receivers ranged from 17 - 65 as short term goals of the project changed. Coordinates for each detection represent the location of the receiver reading the transmitter. Additionally, detection ranges can vary from apporximately 500 - 1200 meters (but see Vemco.com for more details)....

Reported here are the metabarcoding read numbers and biomass data assessed from a fish community in a southern Florida pond in Pinecrest Gardens after invasive species eradication and native restocking in 2017 and 2018 in linear regression models. This dataframe contains the number of fish of each species identified, their measured lengths estimated population surface area, and the number of metabarcoding reads (with SD and COV) for each species observed from the sampling date.

These data are the primary data used to model rainbow trout growth in Glen Canyon. Fish growth data were collected from nighttime boat electrofishing field campaigns conducted five to six times per year in April, July, September, and January, from April 2012 through November 2021 for a total of 9798 observations of mark-recapture-based growth. Sampling was conducted in a five km reach in the lower portion of the Glen Canyon tailwater (3.7-8.9 km upstream of Lees Ferry, AZ). Two nights of sampling occurred on each trip, with the central 2-3 km of the reach sampled on both nights. After capture, fish were kept in aerated 40-L buckets and transported to a central processing location. Groups of 10-15 fish were anesthetized...

We investigated whether the length of time fire chemical weathers on a terrestrial substrate before mixing into aquatic environments alters the chemical’s toxicity when encountered by juvenile rainbow trout. We also looked at whether the type of substrate where the chemical is applied affects its toxicity to juvenile rainbow trout after mixing into water. Two fire chemicals (Phos Chek LC95A-R and Phos Chek MVP-Fx) were applied to four substrate media (low organic content soil, high organic content soil, duff, and gravel) and allowed to age on the substrate for 7, 14, 28 or 56 days. At the end of the assigned weathering period, 96-hour assays were conducted by adding water to the dosed substrate and stocking each...

The data includes dates, places, and times of sampling events for eggs of invasive Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) in tributaries to the Great Lakes in 2021 and 2022. Reference data on locations and dates sampled, gears used, and effort are included. Developmental stages for a subset of undamaged, fertilized eggs are provided. Tables include common fields to allow for integration into a relational database to aid data extraction and associating data among tables. A total of 236 Black Carp were collected throughout the year from 2017-2019 by incidental captures of commercial fishers and biologists. Capture date, river basin of capture location, and coordinates were recorded for each Black Carp captured. A subsample of 119 Black Carp varying from 429-1268 millimeters total length were compared for the precision of annuli counts by two experienced readers for the ossified two anterior pectoral fin rays, the ossified anterior dorsal fin ray, sectioned vertebrae, and lapilli otoliths for selection of a single structure based on percent exact agreement, coefficient of variation, and age-frequency plots.

This portion of the data release presents fish abundance data from samples collected in the Elwha River estuary, Washington, in 2006, 2007, 2013, and 2014 (no associated USGS Field Activities numbers because data were collected predominantly by biologists from the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe). We used the Puget Sound beach seining protocol (Simenstad and others, 1991) to sample fish populations in the Elwha River estuary complex. The beach seine was 38 m long x 2 m deep, with a 2 m x 2 m bag in the center of the net; mesh size was 3.18 mm, 6.35 mm, and 31.75 mm, for the bag, center panel, and wings, respectively. The seine net was deployed from bank to bank by a small skiff and then pulled on shore. The number of...

Water quality and fish tissue samples were collected and measured for mercury concentrations in a total of 23 small to medium size lakes in Minnesota to assess the impact that zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) invasion had on mercury bioaccumulation. Water samples were collected in October and November of 2021 from 22 lakes and analyzed for total mercury, methylmercury, dissolved organic carbon, and suspended particulate matter at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Mercury Research Laboratory (MRL). Tissue samples of walleye (Sander vitreus) and yellow perch (Perca flavescens) were collected by researchers at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities from July to October in 2019 and 2021 and June to October in 2020...

This USGS data release documents coarse ranges for 123 fish species in the conterminous United States for level 8 hydrologic units from the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). These range maps were derived by combining known fish occurrence information from four data sources: point occurrences from the Aquatic Gap Analysis Project (AGAP) fish database, point occurrences from the IchthyMaps dataset, point occurrences from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), and HUC-8 level range maps developed by NatureServe. Data can be linked to geospatial units of the WBD using the HUC8 field. Data are provided in comma separated value (CSV) and zipped Parquet file formats. Parquet file format is provided to help...
