This portion of the USGS data release presents topography data collected during surveys performed along northern Monterey Bay, California, in March 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-620-FA). Topographic profiles were collected on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Prior to data collection, vertical distances between the GNSS antennas and the ground were measured using a tape measure. Hand-held data collectors were used to log raw data and display navigational information allowing surveyors to navigate survey lines spaced at 50- to 250-m intervals along the beach. Profiles were surveyed from the landward edge of the study area (either the base of a bluff, engineering structure, or just landward of...

This portion of the USGS data release presents bathymetry data collected during surveys performed in northern Monterey Bay, California in September 2016 (USGS Field Activity Number 2016-674-FA). Bathymetry data were collected using a personal watercraft (PWC) and small boat equipped with single-beam sonar systems and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. The sonar systems consisted of an Odom Echotrac CV-100 single-beam echosounder and 200 kHz transducer with a 9° beam angle. Raw acoustic backscatter returns were digitized by the echosounder with a vertical resolution of 1.25 cm. Depths from the echosounders were computed using sound velocity profiles measured using a YSI CastAway CTD during the survey....

This part of the data release presents topography data from northern Monterey Bay, California collected in March 2016 using a tripod-mounted Riegl VZ-1000 lidar scanner (USGS Field Activity 2016-627-FA). For each area surveyed, the scanner was placed at several positions which were selected to provide maximum line-of-sight coverage of the area of interest. Scans were typically conducted in panoramic mode, creating a detailed point cloud of all unobstructed surfaces in a 360 degree view of the scanner. At each scan position, co-registered photographic imagery was also collected with a scanner mounted DSLR camera. Scanner registration was performed by placing four or more cylindrical or flat reflective tripod-mounted...

We characterized seafloor sediment conditions near the mouth of the Elwha River from underwater photographs taken every four hours from September 2011 to December 2013. A digital camera was affixed to a tripod that was deployed in approximately 10 meters of water (Tripod location from September 2011 to April 2013: 48.15333, -123.55931; tripod location from April 2013 to December 2013: 48.15407, -123.55444). Each photograph was qualitatively characterized as one of six categories: (1) base, or no sediment; (2) low sediment; (3) medium sediment; (4) high sediment; (5) turbid; or (6) kelp. For base conditions, no sediment was present on the seafloor. Low sediment conditions were characterized by a light dusting of...

This data set consists of polylines representing groundwater-level altitude contours, 1982, for middle Humboldt River basin, north-central Nevada as published on plate 2, figure 3 in the U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 98-4209 titled "Hydrogeologic framework and ground-water levels, 1982 and 1996, middle Humboldt River basin, north-central Nevada," 1999. A subset of the contours were published as part of a larger data set representing water-table contours for Nevada (Buto and others, 2006). The remaining contours have been added to complete this data set. Macroinvertebrate samples were collected from streams tributary to Honnedaga Lake and from the Middle Branch of the Black River during 2012-2016 and analyzed for methylmercury concentrations and for stable isotope ratios of nitrogen and carbon. Macroinvertebrates were identified in the field, and the level of taxonomic resolution varied from order to species; most taxa were identified to the family level. Specimens were field-processed into composite samples, field-frozen, and submitted to the mercury laboratory for freeze-drying and analysis. Subsamples were then submitted to the stable isotope laboratory for analysis of nitrogen and carbon isotope ratios. This database contains the resulting data and associated...
From May 2017 to November 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted bathymetric surveys of New York City's East of Hudson Reservoirs. Bathymetry data were collected at Kirk Lake during June 2017. Depth data were collected primarily with a multibeam echosounder. Quality assurance points were measured with a single-beam echosounder. Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) and static global navigation satellite system (GNSS) surveys and submersible pressure transducers. Measured sound velocity profiles were used to correct echosounder depth measurements for thermal stratification. Digital elevation models were created by combining the measured bathymetry data with lidar elevation...

This dataset is a LAS dataset containing light detection and ranging (lidar) data and sonar data representing the beach and near-shore topography of Minnesota Point near the Superior Entry of Lake Superior, Duluth, Minnesota. The LAS data sets were used to create a digital elevation model (DEM) of the approximately 2.27 square kilometer surveyed area. Lidar data were collected using a boat mounted Velodyne unit. Multibeam sonar data were collected using a Norbit integrated wide band multibeam system compact (iWBMSc) sonar unit. Single-beam sonar data were collected using a Ceescope sonar unit. All elevation data were collected September 15-17, 2021. Methodology similar to Wagner, D.M., Lund, J.W., and Sanks, K.M.,...

RiverWare simulated daily averaged surface water permit requested diversions and diversions modeled in the spatially refined model region within the Red River Basin. Values reported are for 18 different climate projection scenarios and a historical scenario, from 2010 through 2099 and 1976 through 2005, respectively. The RiverWare model was used to determine the impacts on regulated flows, resevoir levels, and water permit reliability. RiverWare was used for this project because of its ability to simulate water use, reservoir operations, and local/interstate regulations.

Native Cutthroat Trout Oncorhynchus clarkii spp. populations in the western U.S. have declined in part due to displacement by nonnative trout, but mechanisms to explain displacement vary by species and geography. Using a production framework, we demonstrated allopatric populations of Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout O. c. virginalis (RGCT) exhibited consistently higher biomass and secondary production rates (0.19–0.92 g DM·m-2·yr-1) than sympatric populations with Brown Trout Salmo trutta (0.01–0.05 g DM·m-2·yr-1) and that an interactive temperature effect on RGCT biomass and production was overshadowed by the presence of Brown Trout across cold and warm streams. Interestingly, over half of trout production was fueled...
