The goals of this project were 1) to contrast existing mature riparian corridor forest habitats with habitats in areas subject to past and ongoing re-vegetation/restoration treatments and 2) to evaluate responses of select bird species to the differences between habitats now and in the future as the revegetated forests develop. We wanted to develop recommendations to improve future re-vegetation/restoration methodology to increase carrying capacity and mobility for borderlands populations of Gray Hawk, Red-crowned Parrot, Red-billed Pigeon, Rose-throated Becard, Neotropical migrant birds, and other high priority riparian taxa.
The Gulf Coast Prairie LCC Conservation Planning Atlas is a platform that allows users to discover, access and integrate existing spatial data layers and maps for use in analysis and conservation planning.

A major part of its population spends its entire life cycle within a relatively small coastal area in eastern Texas and western Louisiana. This project resulted in the development of a conservation framework to further the conservation of grassland-shrublands in the area encompassed by the Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GCP LCC). The Missouri Resource Assessment Partnership (MoRAP) of the University of Missouri, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Biological Survey of the University of Oklahoma, produced a vegetation and landcover GIS data layer for the eastern portions of Oklahoma. This effort was accomplished with direction and funding from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and state and federal partners (particularly the Gulf Coast Prairie and Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperatives of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service). Grassland conservation is a priority within the GCP LCC. We held a series of meetings and conference calls with partners to identify areas of need both conceptually and geographically. Based on the meeting outcomes, we identified specific tasks that could be accomplished within our scope, including development of datasets and demonstration of a freely available decision support software tool (DST): NatureServe Vista. The Western Gulf Coast (WGC) provides valuable habitat for migratory and resident waterfowl. The mottled duck (Anas fulvigula), a resident species, is highly associated with coastal marsh habitats and relies on these areas for all of its life cycle needs. Habitat loss and degradation due to urban expansion and other human activities have raised concerns for the WGC mottled duck population.
