The SRLCC provided funds to the states of Arizona and New Mexico to support development of the states Crucial Habitat Assessment Tools (CHATs) which provide a decision support system to better incorporate wildlife values, sensitive animals and plants, and important ecosystem features into land use decision-making to reduce conflicts and surprises.Several states have released wildlife mapping tools that are the foundation for displaying crucial wildlife and corridor information. The state and regional CHATs are non-regulatory, and give project planners and the general public access to credible scientific data on a broad scale for use in project analysis, siting and planning. This includes large-scale development...

The purpose of this Agreement is to provide financial assistance to the National Wildlife Refuge Association in support of collaborative work between them and the Bear River Refuge to further the goals and accomplish objectives of the Bear River Watershed Conservation Area, and to work with the Friends of Bear River Refuge to establish an endowment fund for conservation education in the watershed. The proposed Bear River Watershed Conservation Area (BRWCA) project would work with private landowners to conserve the natural resources and working landscapes of the area by acquiring conservation easements from willing sellers, the project would help maintain important habitat for a variety of fish, mammals, and migratory...

Colorados Front Range represents a region of the Southern Rockies LCC that is both ecologically and economically significant. It is home to the majority of Colorados residents, including the major population centers of Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, and Colorado Springs, and provides critical ecosystem services such as clean and abundant water, wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, and aesthetic values to the rest of the state. Ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) dominated forests span the majority of the Front Range mountains and foothills, covering approximately 700,000 acres of the Front Range landscape between 5000 and 8500 ft elevation. The lower-montane zone ponderosa pine forests (~5500-7000 ft) form the...

This project will build an SR LCC catalog inside of the USGS-sponsored ScienceBase scientific data and information management platform, provide the ability for partner organizations to maintain and contribute to an SR LCC0specific work environment in ScienceBase, and provide stewardship and data integration coordination for the SR LCC partners.FY2012This project will build an SR LCC catalog inside of the USGS-sponsored ScienceBase scientific data and information management platform, provide the ability for partner organizations to maintain and contribute to an SR LCC0specific work environment in ScienceBase, and provide stewardship and data integration coordination for the SR LCC partners.

The Gunnison Climate Working Group is a chartered partnership of 14 public and private organizations in Colorados Upper Gunnison Basin. The Southern Rockies LCC (SRLCC) funded The Nature Conservancy to complete a comprehensive vulnerability assessment identifying species and ecosystems most at risk from climate change. The assessment included a set of habitat adaptation strategies for priority species, such as the Gunnison sage-grouse. As a final product, local demonstration projects were designed and installed. The financial support and partnership provided by the SRLCC was critical to the Gunnison Climate Working Groups success and progress towards addressing climate change. As a direct result of the SRLCC involvement,...

The purpose of this agreement is to initiate SRLCC-wide data discovery, cataloging, and general GIS analysis to characterize the landscape across the SRLCC geographic area. The SRLCC has identified the need for a data management activity to support all aspects of data discovery, dissemination, cataloging, and analysis. An existing agreement between FWS and the USGS provides for an SRLCC catalog inside the U.S. Geological Survey-sponsored ScienceBase scientific data and information management platform and provides the ability for partner organizations to maintain and contribute to this work environment. Initial information and data discovery process will compile existing resources in the ScienceBase SRLCC data portal...

The University of California, Davis in partnership with the Navajo Nation is partnering with the Southern Rockies LCC to provide estimates of habitat connectivity for focal species on the Navajo Nation and adjacent lands that the tribe wishes to incorporate into planning and implementation of adaptive management. The project will derive habitat variables as inputs for connectivity models, and model outputs likely will include habitat quality and conductance. Species-specific models will be mathematically integrated to permit probabilistic statements about simultaneous connectivity for two or more species. The spatial data developed on wildlife distributions and habitat to model connectivity and, ultimately, viability...

Land managers have incorporated threats to biodiversity for nearly two decades, but very few efforts have included threats from future conditions and fewer still have assessed vulnerability to climate change. This project will address two themes: 1) providing foundational information about habitat fragmentation and connectivity and 2) identifying the degree of vulnerability of key habitats to climate change. For development of understanding broadextent, a landscape-level pattern of climate change is an important complement to approaches to estimate rangeshifts for certain key focal species. Ecological system types (i.e. coarsefilters) are widely used in conservation planning because they contain valuable resources...

Information on the sources of sediment production and amount is necessary to better understand the relationship between landscape-scale ecosystem drivers (fire, large-scale invasive species removal, recreation, oil and gas development, and grazing) and sediment loading in rivers, streams, and reservoirs. An improved understanding of the sources of sediment production and the contribution of each source to total sediment load would enable resource managers to better locate and design conservation strategies to reduce sediment loading, and improve water quality, native fish habitats, and upland vegetation cover. This project will conduct an erosion and sediment supply analysis in a portion of the Upper Green River...
