FISHTAIL: A decision support mapper for conserving stream fish habitats of the Northeast Climate Science Center (NECSC) region, extended to the Mississippi Basin for use in conservation planning applications such as the Gulf Hypoxia Initiative. Assessing current and future condition of fluvial habitats Human landscape disturbances occurring throughout the Northeast U.S. that include urbanization, agriculture, and dams have multiple effects on the region’s streams which support economically and socially valuable stream fishes. Changes in climate are expected to cause additional changes in stream habitats, including changing water temperatures, which will potentially alter future stream fish assemblages. To manage...
This two-year project will use the Service First Authority to assist two communities in Hawai’i to develop resilience plans in partnership with Native Hawaiian, State, and Federal organizations. This partnership will build on existing DOI-supported projects that already have begun to articulate the resilience and adaptive capacity of Hawai’i’s ecosystems, such as the President’s Resilient Lands and Waters Initiative and the Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC) Hawaiian Islands Terrestrial Adaptation Initiative. It aligns with the Service First goals of enhancing mission delivery through interagency collaboration and improving operational efficiency by bringing together knowledge, information, and decision...

The Mississippi River Basin / Gulf Hypoxia Initiative (MRB/GHI), spearheaded by seven LCCs, is undertaking a strategic and transparent process to create an integrated framework that supports planning, design, configuration, and delivery of wildlife conservation practices within the watershed. This framework consists of multiple quantitative objectives representing three interests (i.e., wildlife, water quality, agriculture), a tiered set of conservation strategies to achieve those objectives within five production agriculture systems (i.e., corn & soybean; grazing lands; floodplain forest; rice; cotton), and a modeling approach to determine where to best implement those actions within four key ecological systems...
