The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development, Arab Water Council, Hydrology.NL, National Center for Research and Development (Jordan), and American University of Beirut, completed a project for acceleration of aquifer storage and recovery in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The MENA region is globally the most water-scarce region with only two percent of the global average annual rainfall. Unsustainable groundwater withdrawals have caused groundwater levels to decline. Groundwater quality has also degraded due to seawater intrusion in coastal areas and infiltration of incompletely treated wastewaters. Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is an established...
Panorama looking west, north, and east (right) from south of Mesquite Spring 23 miles north of Ludlow. Crucero Fills at left of right section with valley of Soda Dale behind them. Afton or Cave Mountain is large mountain in background of section next to left-hand section (383). Cronise Valley lies behind low hill at extreme right of same section. Mohave River channels emerge from canyon between low hills in middle distance and Cave Mountain spreads across alluvial slope, extending across entire width of panorama. Jointly managed by multiple states and the federal government, there are many ongoing efforts to characterize and understand water quality in the Delaware River Basin (DRB). Many State, Federal and non-profit organizations have collected surface-water-quality samples across the DRB for decades and many of these data are available through the National Water Quality Monitoring Council's Water Quality Portal (WQP). For this data release, WQP data in the DRB were harmonized, meaning that they were processed to create a clean and readily usable dataset. The harmonization process included the synthesis of parameter names and fractions, the condensation of remarks and other data qualifiers, the resolution of duplicate...

This dataset contains Unoccupied Aircraft Systems (UAS) footage from the 2018 summit collapse of Kīlauea Volcano, Island of Hawai‘i. The intrusion of magma into Kīlauea’s lower East Rift Zone triggered draining of the summit lava lake and magma withdrawal from the shallow reservoir. This resulted in 62 subsequent collapse events at the summit between May and early-August 2018. Each collapse event released energy equivalent to a magnitude-5.3 earthquake. The total collapse volume was about 0.8 km^3, with subsidence of more than 500 m in some places. There are 73 UAS videos in this publication, recorded from May 19 to September 5, which have been separated into subpages by month. Sub-pages for each month also contain...
In November 2016, the U.S. Geological Survey acquired high-resolution P- and S-wave seismic data across the surface trace of the West Napa Fault zone at Saintsbury Winery in Napa, California. We acquired seismic reflection, refraction, and guided-wave data along a 115-m-long profile across the known surface rupture zone of the West Napa Fault zone. To acquire the reflection and refraction data, we co-located shots and geophones, spaced every meter along the profile. We used 116 SercelTM L40A P-wave (40-Hz vertical-component) geophones with a sensitivity of 22.34 volts/meter/second to record 116 P-wave shots. We also used 116 SercelTM L28-LBH S-wave (4.5-Hz horizontal-component) geophones with a sensitivity of...

The agro-hydrologic VegET (VegetationEvapotranspiration) model uses a water balance approach to simulate daily soil moisture (SM), actual evapotranspiration (ETa), and runoff (R). We enhanced the model to include snow accumulation and melt processes along with the separation of runoff into surface runoff and deep drainage and implemented the code using cloud technology. This publication is providing the supporting data for the updated methods and provides evaluation results for the United States and the Greater Horn of Africa.

The Russian River Watershed (RRW) covers about 1300 square miles (without Santa Rosa Plain) of urban, agricultural, and forested lands in northern Sonoma County and southern Mendocino County, California. Communities in the RRW depend on a combination of Russian River water and groundwater to meet their water-supply demands. Water is used primarily for agricultural irrigation, municipal and private wells supply, and commercial uses - such as for wineries and recreation. Annual rainfall in the RRW is highly variable, making it prone to droughts and flooding from atmospheric river events. In order to better understand surface-water and groundwater issues, the USGS is creating a Coupled Ground-Water and Surface-Water...
Compressed file SedPbZn_Results_gdb.zip contains the analytical results of a geospatial analysis for identifying areas in Alaska that may have potential for sediment-hosted Pb-Zn (lead-zinc) deposits. The spatial analysis is based on queries of statewide source datasets Alaska Geochemical Database (AGDB3), Alaska Resource Data File (ARDF), and Alaska Geologic Map (SIM3340) within areas defined by 12-digit HUCs (subwatersheds) from the National Watershed Boundary dataset. An ArcMap mxd file, layer file, and geodatabase with cartographic layers is provided for users to view the analytical results in ArcMap. Additional files include FGDC metadata, a pdf showing the query parameters for the analysis, and a README file....
