Low-altitude (80 and 100 meters above ground level) digital images were collected at Sage Lot Pond in Waquoit, Massachusetts, two sites on the Mill River in Taunton, MA, Great Marsh in Barnstable, MA, the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve in Wells, ME, and on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Quissett Campus in Woods Hole, MA using 3DR Solo unoccupied aircraft systems (UAS) during 2018. The Middle Fork Willamette River Basin encompasses 3,548 square kilometers of western Oregon and drains to the mainstem Willamette River. Fall Creek Basin encompasses 653 square kilometers and drains to the Middle Fork Willamette River. In cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Geological Survey evaluated geomorphic responses to dam operations at Fall Creek Lake in which lake levels are temporarily lowered to streambed each fall or winter to facilitate downstream passage of juvenile spring Chinook salmon. This data release includes 9 GeoTIFF rasters that represent percent cover of intertidal microbial biofilm on the mudflats of South San Francisco Bay, CA between June 2020, and June 2022. Rasters follow the naming scheme biofilmPC_YYYYMMDD_10m.tif, where “biofilmPC” describes the dataset, YYYYMMDD is the date of the image, and 10m is the spatial resolution of the raster. We performed hourly monitoring of precipitation and soil moisture at the Two Towers landslide located in northern California near the town of Zenia. Data were acquired January 19, 2017 to April 29, 2020. Rainfall was measured near the center of the landslide using a tipping-bucket rain gauge with resolution of 0.254 mm and accuracy of ±2% to 250 mm/h (resolutions and accuracies stated herein are as specified by sensor manufacturers and accounting for datalogger resolution). Members from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Patterns in the Landscape - Analyses of Cause and Effect (PLACE) team are releasing monthly surface water maps for the conterminous United States (U.S.) from 2003 through 2019 as 250-meter resolution geoTIFF files. To support the modeling of storm-induced flooding, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal National Elevation Database (CoNED) Applications Project has created an integrated 1-meter topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM) for the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which is located at the outlet of the Salish Sea. The international boundary between Canada and the northwestern part of the United States bisects the strait. Semi-arid urban environments are undergoing an increase in air temperatures, both in average temperatures and in the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events. Within cities, different varieties of urban landcovers (ULC) and their densities influence local air temperatures, either mitigating or increasing heat. Area estimates of land cover and land cover change are often based on reference class labels determined by analysts interpreting satellite imagery and aerial photography. Different interpreters may assign different reference class labels to the same sample unit. This dataset include land cover attributes for the year 2000 assigned by 7 image analysts, working independently of each other, to a set of 300 sample locations from a region of the Pacific Northwest of the United States. This data was used in an evaluation of the impact of interpreter variability on variance estimation.

A validation assessment of Land Cover Monitoring, Assessment, and Projection annual land cover products (2000–2019) for Hawaii was conducted with an independently collected reference data set. Reference data land cover attributes were assigned by trained interpreters for each year of the time series (2000–2019) to a reference sample of 600 Landsat resolution (30m x 30m) pixels. The interpreted land cover attributes were crosswalked to the LCMAP annual land cover classes: Developed, Cropland, Grass/Shrub, Tree Cover, Wetland, Water, Snow/Ice and Barren. Landslide-generated tsunamis pose significant hazards, but developing models to assess these hazards presents unique challenges. George and others (2017) present a new methodology in which a depth-averaged two-phase landslide model (D-Claw) is used to simulate all stages of landslide dynamics and subsequent tsunami generation, propagation, and inundation. Because the model describes the evolution of solid and fluid volume fractions, it treats both landslides and tsunamis as special cases of a more general class of phenomena. Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the American River at Sailor Bar, near Fair Oaks, California, October 19-21, 2020, to support research on remote sensing of water depth from satellite images. This vector shapefile contains the locations of 365 “plugged and abandoned” well sites from across the Colorado Plateau with their respective relative fractional vegetation cover (RFVC) values.
