Daily evaporation rates were calculated at the open-water LZ40-platform in the interior of Lake Okeechobee, Florida, from December 1, 2012 through December 31, 2016 using five methods (Shoemaker et al., 2024); specifically, the Penman, Priestly-Taylor, Mass-Transfer, Simple, and Turc equations. Bowen-ratio energy-budget derived daily evaporation rates calculated from micro-meteorological data at the LZ40 site (Wacker, 2020) are considered a standard by which to evaluate the five alternative evaporation methods. Parameterization of each of method and comparison of evaporation using each of the five methods to the Bowen ratio estimates are published by Shoemaker and others (2024).

A reach of the North Santiam River, Oregon, was used as a case study in an ongoing effort to develop and test uncrewed aircraft system (UAS)-based salmon habitat mapping techniques using: (1) particle image velocimetry (PIV) for estimating surface flow velocities from remotely sensed data; and (2) two-dimensional (2D) flow modeling based on remotely sensed topography and bathymetry (topo-bathymetry). Direct measurements of flow velocity were obtained using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) and used to assess the accuracy of the image-derived velocity estimates and modeled flow fields. Water depth was measured using a single beam echosounder and was used to calibrate and validate image-derived depth estimates...

Tabular and raster data containing spatial capture recapture records for male and female bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis nelsoni) in Grand Canyon National Park and surrounding landscape collected from 2010 to 2018 and associated tabular data files required for analysis of data with spatial capture connectivity models and raster data describing the ouput from SCR models. Associated tables and rasters include details for traps and genetic captures, and the state space for required modeling and associated spatial covariates in models, as well as rasters describing population density and habitat use.

This data release documents the steps performed to create classified cropland fallow maps for the Northern Great Plains region of the United States from the years 2010 to 2019. The data release consists of the following: (i) an XML metadata file, (ii) a table of reference data (iii) two decision tree models, and (iv) 10 single band GeoTIFFs. The XML file named ‘Metadata.xml’ describes steps that were used to create this dataset. The table of reference data named ‘RefrenceSamples.csv’ list the training and validation point values used to train the decision tree classifiers and preform accuracy assessments. The two decision trees named ‘decisionTree_0.005.txt’ and ‘decisionTree_0.007.txt’ were used to classify remote...

These data contain the results from the North American Bat Monitoring Program's (NABat) species distribution model (SDM) for the northern long-eared bat (Myotis septentrionalis). The provided tabular data includes predictions (with upper and lower confidence intervals) for northern long-eared bat occupancy probabilities (which represent the probability of presence) based on data from the entire summer season (May 1-August 31), averaged from 2017-2022, in each NABat grid cell (5km x 5km scale) across the range of the species. Specifically, predictions represent occupancy probabilities in the pre-volancy season in the summer (May 1–July 15), i.e., the period of time before juveniles can fly and become detectable by...

In January 2024 adult monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus (Linnaeus, 1758)) were found dead near their overwintering site in Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California, USA. Ten of the deceased monarchs (six females and four males) were collected from three sites by staff at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History and sent to the U.S. Geological Survey Organic Chemistry Research Laboratory for analysis. Each individual adult monarch was analyzed following methods in Black et al., 2023 and Gross et al., 2024a and 2024b for 181 pesticides and pesticide transformation products; 15 pesticides were detected and included 8 insecticides/insecticide transformation products, 2 fungicides, and 4 herbicides/herbicide...

Risk assessments describe the risk of a species’ invasion in a location, and many risk assessments have been produced by different institutions for various reasons. However, information is sporadically located online, increasing the difficulty of developing comprehensive lists of species with risk assessments or comparing assessment results across species in locations of interest. Therefore, we aggregated species risk assessments by searching information systems and conducting a literature review. The methods for data aggregation are explained in the larger work citation (Dean et al. 2024). The present dataset documents risk assessments available at different spatial scales (e.g., territory, state, region, nation)...

Anaerobic microcosm experiments were conducted in April-May 2018 with PFAS-contaminated soil from a U.S. Army installation (Fort Drum, New York) and simulated groundwater. All microcosms, except for a live sediment control, were amended with perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), and 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FtS). Replicate treatments were prepared with and without bioaugmentation with the WBC-2 dehalogenating culture and with and without addition of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane and trichloroethylene). Two additional treatments were prepared containing granular activated carbon. All microcosms were prepared in duplicate and sacrificed for sampling....

This data release provides geochemical, sedimentological, and geochronological data from interbedded fluvial and marsh deposits and radiocarbon dates of the section spanning the last 1500 years from the Pallett Creek paleoseismic site, California. The samples were collected to support paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the site and refine several previous investigations of paleoearthquakes along the San Andreas Fault (Sieh, 1978; Sieh, 1984; Sieh et al., 1989; Biasi and Weldon, 1994; Scharer et al., 2011). Geochemical and sedimentological data include grain size, magnetic susceptibility, dry bulk density, percent total organic matter, and percent total carbonate at contiguous 1 cm spacing and carbon (total C)...

This data release consists of three child items distinguishing the following types of data: light detection and ranging (lidar) point clouds (LPCs), digital elevation models (DEMs), and snow depth raster maps. These three data types are all derived from lidar data collected on small, uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS) at study areas in the Upper Colorado River Basin, Colorado, from 2020 to 2022. These data were collected and generated as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing Systems (NGWOS) Upper Colorado River Basin project.

Daily measurements of evaporation using the Bowen ratio method were made at USGS station name LZ40 (USGS site number 265405080472100), a platform-based station constructed by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) at the approximate center of Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Data collection began on November 15, 2012. Meteorological and environmental variables were measured every 30 seconds and averaged at 30-minute resolution until February 7, 2013 and 15-minute resolution thereafter to December 31, 2019, including: precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, incoming/outgoing solar radiation, and water temperature at various depths.

This data release contains the spatial raster outputs from analyses of summer roost site habitat for each of 4 species considered under the United States Forest Service proposed Bat Conservation Strategy (Myotis lucifugus, MYLU; Myotis septentrionalis, MYSE; Myotis sodalis, MYSO; and Perimyotis subflavus, PESU). The included raster data represent the mean suitability for summer roosting habitat for each of the four species (expressed as a numerical value from 0 to 1), the prediction interval (difference between the 5th and 95th confidence intervals), as well as the environmental covariates used to model habitat. All raster data are produced at a spatial resolution of 250 m per pixel. Summer roost site suitability...

These data provide morphological measurements and primary feather length measurements of Black Oystercatcher (Haematopus bachmani) captured at several sites across Alaska and British Columbia between 2019 and 2022. The first table contains mass and morphological measurements of body and bill size. The second table provides lengths of individual primary feathers measured from folded wing photographs using a computer software. These feather lengths are to be used in a size-constrained components analysis to calculate wing shape such as pointedness and convexity.
