Groundwater quality data for 472 domestic well-water samples were retrieved from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database and combined with descriptive information on the sampled well locations. The NWIS data for a sample, collected on the selected date, were averaged into a single record (one per well), and rounded according to USGS protocols. For evaluation and reporting, the water-quality data were further combined with physical attributes and classified by lithology, topographic position, physiographic province, region, redox, and pH (as standalone matrix, one row per well). A second data matrix file incorporating minimum reporting levels for censored and low-reported values (set to 0.99X highest...

The data release consists of two companion air and water temperature datasets collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) program with data from both the Little Lehigh and White Clay Creek Watersheds in the Delaware River Basin. Data consists of 15-minute temperature data during the 7/2021 – 12/2022 study period for 21 air and 49 water locations (which include 6 continuous monitoring USGS streamgages) in the Little Lehigh Creek watershed and 8/2021 – 1/2023 for 28 air and 36 surface water locations (including 6 continuous monitoring USGS streamgages) in the White Clay Creek watershed. Datalogger installation locations for surface water locations were targeted...

This dataset contains quality-assurance and quality-control data (QA/QC) not publicly available in the online National Water Information System (NWIS) for the Pennsylvania Groundwater Monitoring Network collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Pennsylvania, 2015-2019. The quality-control data (such as blanks and replicates) were collected at a subset of sites to ensure that the data meets specific data-quality objectives of this program. Also included in this data release are the supplemental tables for the accompanying USGS publication “Characterization of Ambient Groundwater Quality within a State-wide, Fixed Station Monitoring Network in Pennsylvania, 2015-2019.” The supplemental tables consist of: 1)...

This dataset contains the lithologic class and topographic position index information and quality-assurance and quality-control data not available in the online National Water Information System for 72 domestic wells sampled by the U.S. Geological Survey in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, May-August 2016. The topographic position index (TPI) for each well location was computed on the basis of a 25-meter digital elevation model (U.S. Geological Survey, 2009) using criteria reported by Llewellyn (2014) to indicate potential classes for topographic setting. The bedrock geologic unit and primary lithology were determined for each well location on the basis of the digital bedrock geologic map of Pennsylvania (Miles and...

This dataset contains the lithologic class and topographic position index information and quality-assurance and quality-control data not available in the online National Water Information System for 54 domestic wells sampled by the U.S. Geological Survey in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, May-September 2017. The topographic position index (TPI) for each well location was computed on the basis of a 25-meter digital elevation model (U.S. Geological Survey, 2009) using criteria reported by Llewellyn (2014) to indicate potential classes for topographic setting. The bedrock geologic unit and primary lithology were determined for each well location on the basis of the digital bedrock geologic map of Pennsylvania (Miles...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has collected water-quality data at six Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) wells at the Letterkenny Army Depot since the 1990s. Electronic data (field and analytical) for this project were put into the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database beginning in 2017. Analytical data include total forms of selected metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

These datasets contain all publicly available analytical data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at each location sampled by the Pennsylvania Pesticides in Vulnerable Groundwaters program from 2021 and 2022. Additional analytical data will be appended following the conclusion of each sampling season, and all data is made publicly available in the on-line National Water Information System (NWIS). The Pennsylvania Pesticides in Vulnerable Groundwater program is a long running cooperative effort between USGS and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). USGS and PDA have sampled for pesticides and a variety of other constituents in domestic groundwater at locations around the state since 2003....

Water-quality data for groundwater samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey from 79 wells in Pike County, Pennsylvania, 1982-2015. Data consist of field properties and results of laboratory analysis for concentrations of inorganic constituents, dissolved gases (methane, ethane and propane), radon-222, gross alpha and beta radioactivity, radium-226, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and methane isotopic composition in groundwater samples. Dataset prepared as part of 2015 study for which 79 wells were sampled and includes comparable results for 18 of the 79 wells that were sampled for previous studies in years 1982, 2007, 2011-13. In 2015, groundwater samples from all 79 wells were analyzed for all constituents...

One-percent annual exceedance probability (AEP) flood-flow estimates were computed at flood insurance study (FIS) locations across Pennsylvania using methods identified in Scientific Investigation Report (SIR) 2019-5094. Following guidance outlined in SIR 2016-5149, valid statistical reaches (VSRs) were identified for streamgages, which were used to assist with the determination of the applicable method used to compute a USGS-derived 1-percent AEP flood-flow estimate at an FIS location. Methods included: weighting, weighting and transferring, and regression equations. The USGS-derived 1-percent AEP flood-flow estimates were then compared to 1-percent AEP flood-flow estimates published in FIS's and furnished by the...
The USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center (USGS PAWSC) in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) has assembled this data release in support of ongoing USGS and PADEP evaluations related to the occurrence and distribution of Per-and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) within Pennsylvania surface water. The data is of four general types: Discrete sample (one moment in time) PFAS concentration data from untreated surface water (raw stream and raw lake water) intended to describe environmental occurrence and distribution of PFAS, not to assess risk in drinking water; Quality-control (QC) PFAS data from samples intended to evaluate the effectiveness and reliability of...

This data release collates stream water temperature observations across the Chesapeake Bay watershed from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS), Water Quality Portal (WQP) and the USGS Aquarius (AQ) Time-Series database. Data retrieved from NWIS consists of aggregate (minimum, maximum and mean) daily values and continuous data from USGS monitoring stations. Values from the WQP contain discrete data from multiple agencies. The dataset compiled from AQ includes miscellaneous stream temperature observations collected during discharge measurements. This stream temperature data release was completed to support the USGS goal to make scientific data publicly usable, easily discoverable, and widely available....

This USGS Data Release includes hydrologic data compiled for selected years during the period 1990-2017 to support the development and calibration of a numerical groundwater model used to simulate groundwater flow paths at and near former and currently active military bases in Montgomery and Bucks Counties in southeastern Pennsylvania (Goode and Senior, 2020). The hydrologic data compiled for the study area include: 1) withdrawal (pumping) rates for production and other wells; 2) quarry pumping rates; 3) rates of flow discharged to streams from the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) sources, and 4) measured water levels in wells. The data were compiled from various sources described in the metadata...
