Sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in depleted oil reservoirs is one of the viable options for carbon management. This paper describes the preliminary modeling and flow simulation part of a DOE sponsored CO2 sequestration project. The main objective of the project is to understand the feasibility of long term sequestration of CO2 in a depleted oil reservoir through a field demonstration experiment. Before the actual CO2 injection begins, it was necessary to determine feasibility of injection. Advanced geologic modeling and flow simulation techniques were used to develop a model for the proposed target interval. A geologic model was developed using data available from well logs and cores. Subsequently, porous...
To meet the India’s projected power demand over the next 25 years, over 300,000 MW of new e generating capacity will need to be installed. Cogeneration, the combined generation of steam and electricity, is an efficient and cost-effective means to save energy and reduce pollution. Many studies around the world have identified sugar mill cogeneration as an attractive low-cost option to place additional generating capacity on the grid. Most studies estimate the cogeneration potential of India’s sugar industry at around 3500 MW . e The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has implemented a Greenhouse Gas Pollution Prevention (GEP) Project to assist in the direction and pace of India’s power sector...
The application of post-combustion capture (PCC) processes in coal fired power stations can result in large reductions of the CO2-emissions, but the consequential decrease in generation efficiency is an important draw-back The leading PCC technology is based on chemical absorption processes as this technology is the one whose scale-up status is closest to full-scale capture in power plants The energy performance of this process is analysed in this contribution. The analysis shows that the potential for improvement of the energy performance is quite large It is demonstrated that further development of the capture technology and the power plant technology can lead to generation efficiencies for power plants with 90%...
Energy and material flows are closely related. The materials system is of major significance from a national energy and CO z point of view. Integrated energy and materials studies can show significant new policy options for energy savings and CO z emission reduction through materials system improvements, shown in a case study on long-term CO 2 emission reduction in the Netherlands. An integrated energy and materials system MARKAL model is used for this analysis. The results show that, on one hand, CO z emission reduction costs are significantly reduced in the integrated approach and, on the other hand, the materials system is significantly influenced by CO z emission reduction. Consideration of dynamic interactions...

Methane, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide data were collected at two offshore submarine pockmarks, Miami Pockmark and Key Biscayne Pockmark. A series of dives were performed to gather the data using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with an Underwater Mass Spectrometer (UMS) instrument. The data were collected May 5-8, 2016 using a Bluefin B12 AUV equipped with a UMS and an onboard calibrated Kearfott T-24 Inertial Navigation System (INS) aided by a GPS Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), 600 kHz RDI Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and a Valeport sound velocity meter. The methane, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide data collected from Miami Pockmark and Key Biscayne Pockmark are displayed in figures 1-8.
Resource agencies are searching for effective methods to prevent the spread of invasive Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and Bighead Carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis), hereafter bigheaded carps, from the Mississippi River basin into the Laurentian Great Lakes. Elevating carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations in water within locks and other pinch points is an approach being considered to reduce invasive fish passage. Laboratory studies have shown that bigheaded carps strongly avoid areas of elevated CO2 (Kates et al. 2012; Dennis et al. 2015). Similarly, telemetry studies found that CO2 can be used to exclude bigheaded carps from certain locations (Donaldson et al. 2016) and reduce upstream movement (Cupp et...
Spreadsheets include data that was used to evaluate the efficacy of dry ice administered under-ice as a tool for reducing the overwinter survival of invasive carps. There are 10 CSV associated with this study

The Alaska Geochemical Database Version 3.0 (AGDB3) contains new geochemical data compilations in which each geologic material sample has one best value determination for each analyzed species, greatly improving speed and efficiency of use. Like the Alaska Geochemical Database Version 2.0 before it, the AGDB3 was created and designed to compile and integrate geochemical data from Alaska to facilitate geologic mapping, petrologic studies, mineral resource assessments, definition of geochemical baseline values and statistics, element concentrations and associations, environmental impact assessments, and studies in public health associated with geology. This relational database, created from databases and published...
