This is an inventory of subset of sediment cores (primarily) and rock cores (few) that are managed by the USGS Florence Bascom Geoscience Center. These are the dry-storage cores. Rerigerated or wet-storage cores will be added or be listed in separate metadata at a future date. The majority of core came to the Science Center by default through merging of USGS organizations that no longer exist. Often little data was preserved. A minority of the cores represent current work of the Science Center

The Mineral Development Atlas (MDA) was a joint project by the United State Geological Survey (USGS), the United States Bureau of Mines (USBM), and the state surveys of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa, and was launched in 1945 to gather information about mining and exploration in the lead-zinc district of the Upper Mississippi Valley. The Atlas consists of section maps at 1:2400 scale showing exploration and mining activity in the area. In 1960, when the USGS offices in Platteville, WI closed, the Atlas was distributed to the states. The Wisconsin portion covers primarily Grant, Iowa, and Lafayette Counties, and WGNHS is currently working towards making this part of the Atlas publicly available online. The Lafayette...
Collection of decoded radio collar telemetry data created by the proprietary “Telonics Data Converter” (TDC) software (version 2.64) from raw Iridium (.idf) files. The TDC software associates collar programming parameters from “TPF” files with related transmitters and decodes the raw Iridium data to produce three text files for each transmitter: a telemetry data file, a transmitter statistics file and a Google Earth KML file. Newly converted data is appended to existing transmitter files. The TDC software was configured to create the telemetry data file in the Telonics “Complete CSV” format. The telemetry CSV files has a 24 line header, with the 24th line containing the column names. The statistics CSV file has...

Hand specimens of rocks collected in and around Marathon County as part of a bedrock mapping project in the 1970s and 1980s. Specimens were collected by P.E. Myers and UW-Oshkosh geologist Gene LaBerge as part of the field work supporting WGNHS publication Information Circular 45: Precambrian Geology of Marathon County, 1983. The collection consists of about 1500 specimens taken from approximately 580 outcrop locations.

This collection of files includes audio files downloaded directly from acoustic monitors in 2022, providing sound recordings of shorebird PRISM plots. Using automatic recorders allows for a consistent, unbiased, and regular data collection during the whole summer and will be used to verify PRISM survey data and determine if shorebirds can be monitored remotely using audiorecording devicies. Files are organized in folders by plot. These data do not represent all locations within the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge where specific avian species may be present, as surveys only occurred in discrete survey plots. Additionally, individual birds may have went undetected within survey plots, as detectability was likely less...
