Glen Canyon Institute (GCI) was founded in 1996 as a charitable 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with the mission of restoring a healthy Colorado River through Glen Canyon. Leading the movement to restore this uniquely beautiful place, Glen Canyon Institute immediately began work to conduct scientific studies on the impacts of Glen Canyon Dam, and compiled the results in the Citizen's Environmental Assessment (CEA), which was released in 2001. The classification is derived from 0.2 m pixel resolution multispectral aerial imagery acquired in May 2013. These data were compiled to support stranding risk modeling of young-of-year rainbow trout in Glen Canyon resulting from fluctuating flows from Glen Canyon Dam, called Trout Management Flows (TMFs). These data were compiled to better understand sedimentation patterns on the bed of the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park, and the way these patterns relate to suspended sediment grain size and concentration. These data were collected by the US Geological Survey Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center from 2000 to 2014, primarily using the "Flying Eyeball" underwater imaging system. This dataset is composed of over 50,000 samples, as part of 16 individual data tables from 16 research expeditions. On each expedition, grain size measurements were made in a grid-like pattern over short segments of the river. Each point sample includes mean grain size, geographic coordinates, date, and geomorphic setting.

These data were estimated for use in the bioecomomic model simulation of the rainbow trout population in the Colorado River in Marble Canyon. The initial rainbow trout abundance is a vector (RBT_intN) representing the population of rainbow trout within each river segment (151 mile long sergments) along the mainstem of the Colorado River from Lees Ferry to 151 river miles downstream. These data were compiled from pitfall traps deployed at three sites, along a 25 kilometers (km) stretch of the Colorado River, immediately downstream of Glen Canyon Dam, in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
