Classified land cover and vegetation canopy cover data for an aeolian dune field near Lees Ferry, AZ
These data were compiled for assessing how geomorphic changes measured as topographic differences from repeat surveys represent measured and modelled estimates of aeolian sediment transport and dune mobility. Objective(s) of our study were to investigate whether topographic changes can serve as a proxy for aeolian transport and sediment mobility in dunefield environments. This was accomplished by relating topographic changes to modeled and observed estimates of sediment transport and dune mobility over months to decades within a partially vegetated dunefield starved of upwind sediment supplies. We specifically tested if topographic changes measured as net and total volume changes and topographic surface roughness...

These data are a species-level classification map of riparian vegetation in the Colorado River riparian corridor in Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA. The classification is derived from 0.2 m pixel resolution multispectral aerial imagery acquired in May 2013. The classification spans the riparian zone of the river corridor between Glen Canyon Dam near Page, Arizona, and Lake Mead at Pearce Ferry, Arizona. The classification is divided into 5 distinct reaches of the river: Glen Canyon, Marble Canyon, Eastern Grand Canyon, Western Grand Canyon upstream of Diamond Creek, and Western Grand Canyon downstream of Diamond Creek. The method used for classification was a combination of supervised Classification And Regression Tree...

These data are records collected from six automated weather stations in operation between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2015 within the Colorado River Corridor of Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Data collection locations, equipment configurations and methods follow those of the original report (OFR 2014-1247). These files are 4-minute interval data for each of the automated weather stations, tab separated by parameter (wind direction, wind speed, wind gusts, air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, and rainfall). Climatic conditions during the reporting period were warm and dry early in 2014 and transitioned to average to slightly above precipitation from mid-2014...
These data consist of measurements of riverbed and floodplain bathymetry and topography, measurements of water-surface elevations and ancillary data. These data are specific to the corridor of the Colorado River from the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers near Spanish Bottom, Utah in Canyonlands National Park to the confluence with the Dirty Devil River in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The time period for these data are 2020 and 2021. The raster data are digital elevation models (DEMs) for segments of the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park, Utah and include both bathymetric and topographic data. The data collected in 2020 consist of bathymetric and topographic data for segments of the Colorado...
These data were compiled to enable estimation of aeolian dune field sediment budgets calculated using remote sensing methods. The objective of the study was to evaluate sediment budgets calculated for the Lees Ferry dune field in Grand Canyon, Earth as a terrestrial analog for aeolian dune fields in Valles Marineris, Mars. These data represent digital elevation models (DEM) of the topography of the Lees Ferry dune field in February and May, 2019, respectively. These data were collected with an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing survey conducted on February 28th and then repeated on May 2nd, 2019. The images acquired with the UAV surveys were processed with photogrammetric modelling to produce the DEMs....
These data are remote sensing image-based classification maps of unvegetated river-derived sand along the Colorado River. One map is based on imagery acquired in May 2013 and is a classification of sand located above the wetted river channel in the imagery which was acquired at the approximate contemporary low-flow river discharge of 8,000 cubic feet per second (227 cubic meters per second) and extends from Glen Canyon Dam at Lake Powell to Separation Canyon at Lake Mead, a total distance of approximately 255 river miles (410 river kilometer). Three other maps are based on imagery acquired in May 2002, 2009, and 2013, respectively, and are classifications of sand located above the wetted river channel (at river...
