The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of these provinces is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. The Eastern Great Basin Province is located in western Utah, eastern Nevada, southern Idaho, and the northwest corner of Arizona, encompassing all or parts of Mohave County in Arizona, Power, Bannock, Cassia, Oneida, and Franklin Counties in Idaho, Elko, Eureka, Lander, White Pine, Nye, Lincoln, and Clark Counties in Nevada, and...
The Total Petroleum System is used in the National Assessment Project and incorporates the Assessment Unit, which is the fundamental geologic unit used for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Total Petroleum System is shown here as a geographic boundary defined and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates not only the set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations, but also the geologic interpretation of the essential elements and processes within the petroleum system that relate to source, generation, migration, accumulation, and trapping of the discovered and undiscovered petroleum resource(s).
Cell maps for each oil and gas assessment unit were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, dry, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown. The well information was initially retrieved from the IHS Energy Group, PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data on CD-ROM, which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the...
This shapefile represents habitat suitability categories (High, Moderate, Low, and Non-Habitat) derived from a composite, continuous surface of sage-grouse habitat suitability index (HSI) values for Nevada and northeastern California during summer¸ which is a surrogate for habitat conditions during the sage-grouse brood-rearing period.

These contours represent water level change in the shallow aquifer in Lahontan Valley from 1992 - 2012 based on depth-to-groundwater measurements made in 73 wells in 1992 and 2012, with limited measurements made in 2013. Measurements collected in 2013 were used to develop the contours only in limited cases where the measurement well was being pumped or was inaccessible in 2012. Water-level change in the shallow aquifer was determined by differencing measurements made in 1992 with current measurements. The difference values were used to interpolate a change surface and contours were developed from that surface.

The Great Basin is characterized by strong patterns of precipitation along approximate north-south gradients (Miller and others, 2013). Hence, we used a hydrographic boundary layer developed by Mason (1999), to divide the region-wide extent of sage-grouse habitat mapping analysis into North and South regions that align coarsely with respective mesic (wet) and xeric (dry) regions of the state. Flood regions are based largely on patterns of snowmelt, summer thunderstorms or cyclonic rainfall, and the 8-digit Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD, 2015) was used to select appropriate watersheds within our mapping extent that corresponded to the Mason (1999) boundary. Slight adjustments, made in ArcMap 10.3, included joining...

This shapefile represents proposed management categories (Core, Priority, General, and Non-Habitat) derived from the intersection of habitat suitability categories and lek space use. Habitat suitability categories were derived from a composite, continuous surface of sage-grouse habitat suitability index (HSI) values for Nevada and northeastern California formed from the multiplicative product of the spring, summer, and winter HSI surfaces.

This shapefile represents habitat suitability categories (High, Moderate, Low, and Non-Habitat) derived from a composite, continuous surface of sage-grouse habitat suitability index (HIS, created using ArcGIS 10.2.2) values for Nevada and northeastern California during spring, which is a surrogate for habitat conditions during the sage-grouse breeding and nesting period.

The dataset delineates ecological sections within California deserts. These deserts occupy the southeastern portion of California and include two ecoregional provinces comprised of five desert regions ("ecological sections"; Miles and Goudey 1997). The American Semi-Desert and Desert Province (warm deserts) includes the Mojave Desert, Sonoran Desert, and Colorado Desert sections in the southern 83% of the California desert. The Intermountain Semi-Desert Province (cold deserts) includes the Southeastern Great Basin and Mono sections in the northern 17% of the region.

These contours represent water levels based on depth-to-groundwater measurements made at 98 wells in July of 2012 in the Lahontan Valley near Fallon, NV. Water level measurements collected before or after July of 2012 were included only in cases where the well was being pumped or was inaccessible in July 2012. The contours were developed to compare with 1992 water level altitude contoured by Seiler and Allander (1993).
