A total of 27 temperature sensors were deployed along the lower 90 miles of the Yakima River at 7 locations where cold water had been previously observed. These 7 cold-water areas had 3 to 6 temperature sensors installed to document the extent and duration of these cold-water areas and their impacts on mainstem temperatures of the Lower Yakima River. Cold-water areas included the mouths of tributaries, alongside channels, and within alcoves. Sensor deployments ranged from 1 to 2 years beginning in October 2018. All temperature data are included in the Yakima.temperatures.zip folder. Details of each monitoring location are provided in the site.locs.csv file. In addition to the raw data and site location information,...

The data herein are geochemical (from X-Ray fluorescence spectrometry), grain size (percent clay, silt, sand), lithological (loss on ignition data), bathymetric, reconstructed IVT, and radioactive isotopes (14-C, 210-Pb, 226-Ra, and 137-Cs). These data were collected from sediments from Leonard Lake, Mendocino County, California, USA starting in 2014. Together, these data provide evidence for a record of extreme precipitation going back three millennia, showing regional pluvial and drought cycles.

Yellowstone National Park (YNP; Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, USA) contains more than 10,000 hydrothermal features, several lakes, and four major watersheds. For more than 140 years, researchers at the U.S. Geological Survey and other scientific institutions have investigated the chemical compositions of hot springs, geysers, fumaroles, mud pots, streams, rivers, and lakes in YNP and surrounding areas. Water chemistry studies have revealed a range of compositions including waters with pH values ranging from about 1 to 10, surface temperatures from ambient to superheated values of 95°C, and elevated concentrations of silica, lithium, boron, fluoride, mercury, and arsenic. Hydrogeochemical data from YNP research have...

This data release provides a monthly irrigation water use reanalysis for the period 2000-20 for all USGS Watershed Boundary Dataset of Subwatersheds (HUC12) in the conterminous United States (CONUS). Results include reference evapotranspiration (ETo), actual evapotranspiration (ETa), irrigated areas, consumptive use, and effective precipitation for each HUC12. ETo and ETa were estimated using the operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop, Senay and others, 2013; Senay and others, 2020) model executed in the OpenET (Melton and others, 2021) web-based application implemented in Google Earth Engine. Results provided by OpenET/SSEBop were summarized to hydrologic response units (HRUs) in the National Hydrologic...

This dataset, VegDischarge v1, represents a significant contribution to the understanding of hydrological dynamics across Africa from 2000 to 2021. It encompasses high-resolution (1km x 1km) monthly raster data of deep drainage, surface runoff, and total runoff, derived from the VegET (VegetationEvapoTranspiration) hydrological model (Senay et al., 2023). Additionally, routed discharge data (Mizukami et al., 2021) for over 63,000 river segments is provided, employing different routing algorithms (DW, KW, KWT, MC, and IRF) to demonstrate variability in river discharge patterns. This comprehensive dataset is stored in NetCDF and Shapefile formats, offering valuable insights for policymakers, stakeholders, and researchers...

A reach of the North Santiam River, Oregon, was used as a case study in an ongoing effort to develop and test image velocimetry algorithms for estimating surface flow velocities in river channels from remotely sensed data. Video was acquired from an unoccupied aircraft system, UAS, and used as input to the image velocimetry algorithms. Direct measurements of flow velocity were obtained using an acoustic Doppler current profiler, ADCP, and used to assess the accuracy of the image velocimetry algorithms. The UAS-based video was acquired from a DJI Matrice 210 quadcopter equipped with a Zenmuse X4S optical camera on July 25, 2022. The video is provided in its native form, with a frame rate of 30 Hertz and an *.mov...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains batch formatted annual peak streamflow data (PkFlows_AllSites.txt) through the 2020 water year for six selected USGS streamgages (01321000, 01342797, 01343060, 01346000, 01347000, and 01348000) that recorded the flood of October 31 – November 3, 2019, which severely affected the Mohawk Valley and southern Adirondack region in central New York State. This data release also contains batch formatted specification (PkFlows_AllSites.psf) and output (PEAKFLOWS_ALLSITES.PRT) files from log-Pearson type III (LPIII) flood-frequency analysis of the annual peak streamflow data in version 7.4 of the USGS PeakFQ software (Flynn and others, 2006), which implements the Bulletin...

Results from Generalized Additive models (GAM), Random Forest models (RFM), and Cubist models (CUB) for three Dauphin Island Sealab (DIS) operated salinity sites in Mobile Bay are reported in this data release. These sites included Meaher Park (DIS:MHPA1), Middle Bay Lighthouse (DIS:MBLA1), and Dauphin Island (DIS:DPIA1). The constructed models predicted a 40-year daily salinity record from 1980 to 2021 at each site based on incomplete imputed salinity records and several explanatory variables. Explanatory variables included: daily streamflow from 8 United States Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages, daily minimum and maximum temperature, precipitation, vapor pressure, wind speed, wind direction, horizontal and...

This data set contains continuous water-surface elevation and water-quality (temperature, specific conductance, salinity, and turbidity) data recorded at 6- and 15-minute intervals, respectively, from two sites in the Bronx on the Harlem River -- Roberto Clemente State Park and Mill Pond Park. Water elevation was monitored every second to detect changes indicative of boat wakes expected to resuspend bed sediment from nearby alcoves. Boat wake detection triggered the collection of 1-second interval water elevation and 1-minute interval turbidity data. In addition to continuous data, grab samples for fecal indicator bacteria (Enterococci) and total suspended solids were collected weekly from - March to September,...
