This data release (DR) is the update of the U.S. Geological Survey - ScienceBase data release Bera (2023), with the processed data for the period October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022. This data release describes the watershed data management (WDM) database SC22.WDM. The precipitation data are collected from a tipping-bucket rain-gage network and the hydrologic data (stage and discharge) are collected at USGS streamflow-gaging stations in and around Salt Creek watershed in DuPage County, Illinois, as described in Bera (2014). Hourly precipitation and hydrologic data for the period October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022, are processed following the guidelines described in Bera (2014) and Murphy and Ishii...

Monroe County, in southeastern West Virginia, hosts world-class karst within carbonate units of Mississippian and Ordovician age. There are at least 412 known caves in the county. Location data for these caves were collected from the West Virginia Speleological Survey (WVASS) Bulletin 22 (Dasher, 2019). Point features were created in ArcGIS Pro for each cave location and were used to make a point density raster. This raster displays the number of cave points per square kilometer.

Model archive summary (MAS) describing the development of a continuous 15-minute suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) time series regression model for the site: Georgiana Slough Near Sacramento River (U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site # 11447903). The SSC time series is computed from instream turbidity data that is managed by the USGS using a YSI EXO multi-parameter water quality sonde.

This data release consists of multi-band 30-meter x 30-meter pixel rasters of estimated population and domestic self-supplied water withdrawals in Rhode Island between July 2014 and June 2021. Population raster data were generated using a national data product of 2010 population spatially distributed across land cover data and U.S. Census Bureau data of population growth estimates to adjust populations for each year 2014-2021. Estimates for changes in population between winter and summer months are also included to generate seasonal population estimates. The coefficients used to describe these variations in populations for each U.S. Census Bureau block group in Rhode Island are included in this data release. Estimated...
Hurricane Maria caused widespread landsliding throughout Puerto Rico during September 2017. Previous detailed landslide inventories following the hurricane include Bessette-Kirton et al. (2017, 2019). Here we continue that work with an in-depth look at a portion of northwest Naranjito, which is a municipality in the northeastern part of the main island. To study a characteristic sample of landslides in Naranjito, we mapped all visible individual landslides in an approximately triangular area 2.3 km wide by 1.9 km long. The boundary of our mapping was defined by previous studies (Bessette-Kirton et al., 2019). We used aerial imagery collected between 9-15 October 2017 (Quantum Spatial, Inc., 2017) to map landslide...

The basis for these features is U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2016-5105 Flood-inundation maps for the Peckman River in the Townships of Verona, Cedar Grove, and Little Falls, and the Borough of Woodland Park, New Jersey, 2014.Digital flood-inundation maps for an approximate 7.5-mile reach of the Peckman River in New Jersey, which extends from Verona Lake Dam in the Township of Verona downstream through the Township of Cedar Grove and the Township of Little Falls to the confluence with the Passaic River in the Borough of Woodland Park, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Flood profiles were simulated...

The WDM database SC17.WDM is updated with the quality-assured and quality-controlled (QA/QC) data from October 1, 2017, through September 30, 2018, and renamed as SC18.WDM. Meteorological data (wind speed, solar radiation, air temperature, dew point temperature, and potential evapotranspiration) and the three digit flags corresponding to wind speed, solar radiation, air temperature, and dew point temperature are copied from ARGN18.WDM and stored in this database. Data in dataset number (DSN) 107 and 801–810 are used in comparisons of precipitation data. DSN 107 contains hourly precipitation data collected at Argonne National Laboratory at Argonne, Illinois. DSN 801-810 contains the processed Next Generation Weather...

The Massachusetts Drought Management Plan (DMP, 2023) uses data from select lake and impoundment systems as an index for drought in six of seven regions in the state. The contents of these lakes and impoundments are reported to Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and classified as one of five levels for drought severity ranging from level 0 (Normal; percentile greater than 30) to level 4 (Emergency; percentile less than 2). Lake and impoundment system data are provided at the end of each month to DCR through multiple agencies as lake levels, volumes, or percent-full (reservoir capacity). USGS reviewed data from 14 of the lake or impoundment systems including 28 waterbodies. Diagrams for...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 38 wells used for domestic and small system drinking water supply in the Coachella Valley of California in 2020. The wells were sampled for the Coachella Valley Basin (CODA) Domestic Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies. Coachella Valley is located in the Desert hydrogeologic province (Johnson and Belitz, 2003) and is structurally divided into four subbasins by the San Andreas fault: the Indio subbasin, the Mission Creek subbasin,...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected field survey data and developed one-dimensional U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) hydraulic models for selected stream crossing sites in the Squannacook River Basin, north-central Massachusetts. A Geographic Information System (GIS) was developed to derive model input data from Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) Digital Elevation Models (DEM) at each stream crossing location. Hydraulic models were built for existing culvert designs as well as preliminary culvert designs for a 3-sided box, 3-sided arch, and a pipe culvert using field survey and GIS data. The preliminary culvert models were designed to convey...

Information on radon occurrence in groundwater systems is important to assess risks from radon exposure. For this study we developed a novel passive method to measure for dissolved radon in groundwater using a coupled diffusive membrane encasing an alpha track (AT) detector. The membrane is gas permeable but water impermeable, which allows for the deployment of AT detectors in aqueous environments. The alpha track (AT) detectors measure the alpha decay of radon as it etches a film seated in the AT. Empirical relations have been developed to convert the etches or tracks from the film of the detectors to a radon concentration. Encasing the AT detectors in a membrane (called MAT detectors) prevents water from deteriorating...

Substantial incision and widening of Caulks Creek within the City of Wildwood, Missouri, in western St. Louis County, poses a threat to stormwater and transportation infrastructure along with effects to residential and recreational property. Hydrologic and hydraulic models were used to estimate probabilistic streamflows and characterize and assess spatial and temporal changes in erosion factors in a 5.4-mile reach of the Caulks Creek channel. A hydrologic model was developed using the Hydrologic Engineering Center Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) to assess existing and future (2050, 2099), climate-based changes in precipitation and associated changes in peak flows, volumes, and timing of peaks. Simulations...
