In 2009, the Kentucky Water Science Center completed the Water Availability Tool for Environmental Resources (WATER-KY), which provided the ability to simulate streamflow for the period 1980-2000. This model integrated TOPMODEL (Beven and Kirkby, 1979) for pervious portions of the landscape with simulation of flow generated from impervious surfaces (USDA, 1986). Associated products included a flow-duration curve, load-duration curves when water-quality data were available, and general water balance. WATER-KY required a dedicated ArcGIS license with the Spatial Analyst extension, which made it difficult to use for some cooperators and limited integration with other hydrologic approaches. This new version translates...

These data are bathymetry (river bottom elevation) in XYZ format (Easting, Northing, Elevation), generated from the July 24–25, 2023, and July 31, 2023, bathymetric survey of the Green River near Brownsville, Kentucky, from approximately 1.5 miles downstream from the Brownsville boat ramp to approximately 0.8 mile upstream from the former Green River Lock and Dam #6 site (3.8 miles total reach length). Hydrographic data were collected using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) with an integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna. The ADCP and GNSS antenna were mounted on a marine survey vessel, and data were collected as the survey vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines....

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers—Louisville District conducted a pilot study on the use of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) for a survey of water conditions during August 2016 in a portion of Nolin Lake, Kentucky. The AUV was equipped with sensors for the continuous collection of water-quality measurements for dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance, temperature, turbidity, total chlorophyll, and blue-green algae concentrations. The AUV continuously collected measurements of these water-quality parameters while traveling at varied depths in a set spatial pattern within a portion of the lake. In addition to the AUV survey, discrete nutrient- and algae-related...

Digital flood-inundation maps for a 3.4-mile reach of Fourmile Creek at Silver Grove, Kentucky, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the City of Silver Grove and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District. Because the City of Silver Grove is subject to flooding from Fourmile Creek and the Ohio River (backwater flooding up Fourmile Creek), a set of flood-inundation maps was created for each flooding source independently and for combinations of possible flooding scenarios. The flood-inundation maps depict estimates of the areal extent and depth of flooding corresponding to a range of different gage heights (gage height is commonly referred to as “stage,” or the water-surface...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides phytoplankton data collected from Nolin Lake, Kentucky, during August 15-19, 2016. The digital dataset includes samples collected at six U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) sites on Nolin River Lake. Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level and abundance (density) and biovolume are reported.

These data are bathymetry (lake bottom elevation) in XYZ format (Easting, Northing, Elevation), generated from the May 30–June 1, 2023, bathymetric survey of Buckhorn Lake, Kentucky, from the dam to CR-1475 (19.5 miles total reach length). Hydrographic data were collected using a RESON 210 kHz NaviSound single-beam echosounder (SBES) with a Hemisphere A222 integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna. The SBES and GNSS antenna were mounted on a marine survey vessel, and data were collected as the survey vessel traversed the lake along planned survey lines. A total of 380 survey lines were oriented approximately perpendicular to the primary flow direction at generally 250-foot or 500-foot spacing....
