This dataset is one table with results of tests to determine exposure of Chukchi Sea polar bears to a suite of pathogens. Results are serological tests for antibodies and tests of fecal samples for presence of parasites. Serologic assays were conducted for Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum, Francisella tularensis, Coxiella burnetii, Leptospira spp., Brucella canis, Brucella abortus/suis, and canine distemper virus. Parasitology analyses were conducted for presence of Giardia cysts and Cryptospiridium oocysts in fecal samples. Polar bears were sampled on sea ice in the Chukchi Sea between mid-March and early May 1987-1994 and 2008-2017. The dataset includes relevant information about the bears that were captured...

These data are in three folders of Keyhole Markup Language (KML) geospatial polygons representing the outlines of walrus herds apparent in satellite imagery. Each KML file contains one or more geospatial polygons of walrus herd outlines created by one observer who visually interpreted the images. The attribute values from all KML files are collected in a CSV table included with this data package. Additional walrus satellite image-derived Chukchi Sea walrus haulout outlines are available in another USGS data release (Fischbach and Douglas 2022; https://doi.org/10.5066/P9CSM0KN)

This dataset consists of one table with a record (row) for each goose location and columns containing location information and covariates. The dataset was used in an analysis of altitude selection and flight propensity in an accompanying paper (Weiser et al. 2024) and is being provided here to allow replication of that analysis. Goose locations (latitude, longitude, and altitude) were collected with GPS tags and represent three subspecies: Pacific Greater White-fronted Goose, Tule Greater White-fronted Goose, and Lesser Snow Goose. Covariates include weather information from ERA5 (Hersbach et al. 2022). In addition to the "used" locations (altitudes at which birds were recorded), the dataset also includes "available"...

The South Atlantic Conservation Blueprint is a living spatial plan to conserve natural and cultural resources for future generations. It identifies shared conservation priorities across the South Atlantic region. The third iteration of the Blueprint, Version 2.1, was released in August 2016. It used comparable methods and the same spatial scale as Blueprint 2.0, just incorporating updated information for many of the indicators. Version 2.1 was a completely data-driven plan based on ecosystem indicator models for terrestrial, freshwater, and marine environments, as well as a connectivity analysis. It used a 200 m spatial scale. More than 400 people from 100 organizations participated in the development of the Blueprint...

FWS and USGS will collaborate to improve the decision science foundation of the South Atlantic Conservation Blueprint. The Blueprint prioritizes areas for shared conservation action in the South Atlantic geography. Priorities in Blueprint 2.0 are driven by natural and cultural resource indicator models and a connectivity analysis. The Conservation Blueprint is a living spatial plan for sustaining natural and cultural resources in the face of future change. More than 400 people from over 100 organizations have actively participated so far in developing the Blueprint.

This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7K072DR. This dataset contains physical oceanographic data within four fjords in the coastal area of the Gulf of Alaska. Data were collected with a Seabird Electronics conductivity-temperature-depth profiler equipped with external sensors and a water sampler. Glacier runoff provides a link between terrestrial systems and nearshore coastal processes, whereby freshwater input influences the physical oceanographic properties and circulation of fjords (Arimitsu et al. 2016).

This dataset consists of one table with Area Backscattering Coefficient (ABC) data from hydroacoustic transect surveys collected around two seabird nesting colonies on Gull and Chisik Islands in lower Cook Inlet, Alaska.

These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program and describe bivalve count and size sampling and observations conducted at intertidal soft-sediment sampling sites in the northern Gulf of Alaska. This dataset consists of five comma separated files (.csv): 1) bivalve taxonomy table, 2) bivalve sampling site table, 3) bivalve count table, 4) bivalve size table, and 5) list of Gulf Watch Alaska principal investigators and collaborators. Version History: First release: November 2018 Revised: September 2022 (ver. 2.0) Revised: October 2023 (ver. 3.0)
This project involved developing a new design for the South Atlantic LCC website (including development of new code and graphics/images as needed) and designing a factsheet template, an online newsletter template, a powerpoint template, and small info cards based on the modern website redesign. The project initially specified the Ning 3.0 platform, which changed to WordPress when Ning stopped supporting upgrades to Version 3.0.

Draft 2 of the summary report for ecological assessment of estuarine tidal marsh systems along the GCPO LCC Gulf Coast subgeography. This includes an assessment of landscape endpoints identified by the GCPO Adaptation Science Management Team in the draft GCPO LCC Integrated Science Agenda. The estuarine tidal marsh priority system in the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks LCC (GCPO LCC) Integrated Science Agenda (ISA) includes general ecological systems of brackish/saltwater marsh and seagrass beds and was adopted as one of two initial ecological systems of focus for the Gulf Coast subgeography of the GCPO LCC (the other being beaches and dunes). The desired ecological state for Gulf Coast estuarine tidal marsh is a...

This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7K072DR. These data describe marine bird and mammal surveys conducted in glacial fjords of coastal Alaska. Data were collected to document the at-sea distribution and abundance of marine birds and mammals in Glacier Bay National Park (2004), Prince William Sound (2010), Icy Bay (2011) and Yakutat Bay (2011). Following standard US Fish and Wildlife protocols for strip surveys.

This data release comprises 4 datasets used to measure the field metabolic rate, body composition, foraging success, behavior, and movement patterns of 9 female polar bears on the sea ice of the Beaufort Sea in April, 2014-2016 as well as 1 dataset used to measure the energetic cost of resting in an adult female polar bear at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego, CA. Wild bears were dosed with and had their blood analyzed for oxygen-18 and deuterium concentrations, equipped with GPS-enabled satellite video camera collars with tri-axial accelerometers, and blood was measured for serum urea and creatinine levels. The bear at the San Diego Zoo had her oxygen consumption measured while resting in a metabolic chamber.

This dataset contains morphological measures of Pacific walruses sampled in the Chukchi and Bering Seas between 1972 and 1991. From 1972 through 1991 the Soviet Union employed industrial methods to harvest and process Pacific walruses to enhance the Russian Far East economy. Under the oversight of the Pacific branch of the Soviet All-Union Scientific Investigational Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), offshore harvesting crews worked from specialized marine mammal hunting ships (ZRS) throughout the spring, summer, and early autumn in the marginal sea ice habitats of the Bering and Chukchi Seas. They launched small (~7 m) wooden boats to approach walruses resting on ice pans, which were dispatched...

This data package contains one table with morphometric and diet information for "non-die-off" seabirds captured and collected in southcentral and southwest Alaska. Data pertains to birds captured (live) or collected (lethally) including, bird identification numbers, sampling dates, geographic locations, body measurements, diets (from either stomach contents or regurgitated prey), and sex and age of the bird when discernible. Common Murres (Uria aalge) and Black-legged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) were captured from their breeding colonies in lower Cook Inlet, Alaska, 2016-2023. Kittiwakes, murres, Glaucous-winged Gulls (Larus glaucescens) and Horned Puffins (Fratercula corniculata) were collected in Prince William...
