Spatial analysis and statistical summaries of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) provide land managers and decision makers with a general assessment of management intent for biodiversity protection, natural resource management, and outdoor recreation access across the nation. This data release presents results from statistical summaries of the PAD-US 3.0 protection status (by GAP Status Code) and public access status for various land unit boundaries (Protected Areas Database of the United States 3.0 Vector Analysis and Summary Statistics). In addition to the national download available in PAD-US 4.0, data is available by 56 State/Territory boundaries in GBD format. The U.S. Census Bureau is the national steward for legally defined geographic area boundaries for State and Equivalent areas. Vegetation map of Gateway National Recreation Area provides local names for vegetation types, as well as crosswalks to the National Vegetation Classification System (NVCS), including association, alliance and formation level attributes. Crosswalks to the NVCS were determined on 29 June 2007. Because this dataset is post-accuracy assessment, the thematic accuracy is not known. The preliminary pre-accuracy assessment dataset has an accuracy that has been determined, however, this is the "corrected", but untested, dataset.
This map layer shows Indian lands of the United States. For the most part, only areas of 320 acres or more are included; some smaller areas deemed to be important or significant are also included. Federally-administered lands within a reservation are included for continuity; these may or may not be considered part of the reservation and are simply described with their feature type and the administrating Federal agency. Some established Indian lands which are larger than 320 acres are not included in this map layer because their boundaries were not available from the owning or administering agency.
This polygon feature class represents vegetation communities mapped at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The polygons were generated using guidelines set by the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). Original lines were drawn on mylar overlays using the DOQs collected in June of 2002. Hard copy 9x9 photography was used for photo interpretation. Traditional image interpretation cues were used to develop the polygons, such as shape, size, pattern, tone, texture, color, and shadow. This shapefile is an vegetation map of Petersburg National Battlefield, Virginia. It was developed by The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Natural Heritage in cooperation with North Carolina State University's Center for Earth Observation for the Northeast Region of the National Park Service. The data was created following general guidelines set forth by the USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program. Homestead National Monument (HOME) encompasses 184 acres in Gage County, west of Beatrice, Nebraska. This unique site hosts the oldest prairie restoration in the National Park system, and the second-oldest tallgrass prairie restoration known. This park unit also has a small remnant of native tallgrass prairie and remnants of bur-oak forest. The National Park Service (NPS), in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), has implemented a program to "develop a uniform hierarchical vegetation methodology" at a national level. The program will also create a geographic information system (GIS) database for the parks under its management.
