As demands on groundwater continue to increase, decision-makers need all available information to ensure the sustainability of this important natural resource. Since the 1940's, commercial, academic, and government hydrologists have used aquifer tests to estimate the hydrogeologic properties of an aquifer near test wells. Results from these tests are recorded in various files, databases, reports, and scientific publications. The Lower Mississippi-Gulf (LMG)-Hydrogeologic Aquifer Test dataset aggregates aquifer test results from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee into a single dataset that is publicly available in a machine readable format. The dataset includes the following information: Location...

This map service is an information surface representing the dominant class within the soil map unit polygon for soil drainage class. Each component (and therefore soil map unit polygon) falls into one of the following classes according to NRCS: Very Poorly Drained, Poorly Drained, Somewhat Poorly Drained, Moderately Well Drained, Well Drained, Somewhat Excessively Drained and Excessively Drained. The class belonging to the component that makes up the highest percentage of the map unit is reported by the map service. Another service exists for drainage class which reports the wettest class in the soil map unit. The concept is similar but for some purposes knowing the wettest component may be the most useful piece...

This data release contains monthly 270-meter resolution Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) climate and hydrologic variables for Localized Constructed Analog (LOCA; Pierce et al., 2014)-downscaled CNRM-CM5 Global Climate Model (GCM) for Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 (medium-low emissions) and 8.5 (high emissions) for hydrologic California. The LOCA climate scenarios span water years 1950 to 2099 with greenhouse-gas forcings beginning in 2006. The LOCA downscaling method has been shown to produce better estimates of extreme events and reduces the common downscaling problem of too many low-precipitation days (Pierce et al., 2014). Ten GCMs were selected from the full ensemble of models from the fifth...
Note: this data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. This data release accompanies the USGS Techniques and Methods report titled: "The Basin Characterization Model - A Regional Water Balance Software Package", and includes all necessary Basin Characterization Model version 8 (BCMv8) inputs and outputs for water years 1896 to 2022. The BCMv8 was refined from the previous BCMv65 version to improve the accuracy of the water-balance components, particularly the recharge estimate. The new version includes seven new features: (1) monthly vegetation-specific actual evapotranspiration (AET) for 65 vegetation types, (2) spatially distributed calibration coefficients for snow accumulation and...
Boreholes were drilled in 2017 and 2018 in Redwell Basin, a headwater catchment underlain by hydrothermally altered sedimentary rock in the Elk Mountains near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. Two boreholes were completed as vertically discrete nested monitoring wells (MW1 as MW1A-MW1D and MW2.1 as MW2.1A-MW2.1C) and one borehole was completed as a single monitoring well (MW2 as RP8). Site locations and well construction are documented under the main page of this data release. Absolute (non-vented) pressure and temperature data loggers (PTDs) were deployed in these wells to monitor groundwater levels and fluid temperature over time. The period of record covers August 2018-September 2019 for all wells; the period...

Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle (640 square kmequivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). This mapping project reinterprets micropaleontologic correlations for 17 Sagavanirktok Quadrangle wells, and reprocesses data from the one publicly-available seismic line. Surface geologic mapping, subsurface-to-surface stratigraphic age control, and seismic framework are required to reliably decipher the complex geology of this key area of the Brooks Range. Outcrops within the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle are the closest surface expressions of Prudhoe Bay source and reservoir rocks. This study yields critical petroleum-related...

resilience
We have defined resilience as a function of both a site’s diversity of topoclimates and the site’s ability to support species movement, or terrestrial landscape permeability. Here, we posit that topoclimates provide species localized refugia from the direct effects of a changing climate, whereas landscape permeability reflects the ability of the landscape mosaic to facilitate terrestrial species movement to and between topoclimates as they shift in response to their respective climatic envelopes.90 m topoclimate data, scaled from 0.2 – 1, were multiplied with terrestrial landscape permeability data, scaled from 0 – 1, to generate a resilience value for every 90 m cell across the project area. A full description...

Conclusions: Emigration rates are closely tied to edge structure. Low contrast edges promote edge permeability Thresholds/Learnings: Synopsis: The behavior of two butterfly species, one habitat specialist and one habitat generalist, were tracked at four prairie edges to determine the extent to which edge structure affects emigration. The specialist species responded strongly to all edges, and was particularly affected by edge density. The generalist species responded strongly only to high contrast edges. Emigration rates are closely tied to edge structure. Therefore, promoting low contrast edges in conservation planning may positively influence edge permeability and species richness in highly fragmented landscapes.

Geofluids (2010) 10, 193–205AbstractThe variation of permeability with depth can be probed indirectly by various means, including hydrologic models that use geothermal data as constraints and the progress of metamorphic reactions driven by fluid flow. Geothermal and metamorphic data combine to indicate that mean permeability (k) of tectonically active continental crust decreases with depth (z) according to log k ≈ −14–3.2 log z, where k is in m2 and z in km. Other independently derived, crustal-scale k–z relations are generally similar to this power-law curve. Yet there is also substantial evidence for local-to-regional-scale, transient, permeability-generation events that entail permeabilities much higher than...
This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed bedrock, structural, and stratigraphic data. The Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles and surrounding area comprise several isolated mountainous ridges in the western Yukon-Tanana Upland of interior Alaska.
This publication provides mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data for 36 outcrop samples collected from the Kaguyak, Naknek, and West Foreland formations in the Iniskin Peninsula region of Cook Inlet. The publication files provide: sample names, coordinates, and the formation from which samples were collected; per-sample pore aperture size distribution charts; formation pore volume graphs and data; pore system properties of each formation from which samples were analyzed; and correspondence from PetroTech Associates describing the methods used in MICP analyses of the samples, and a brief summary of the data
