This dataset contains taxonomy, density (cells/mL), and biovolume (μm3/mL) data for phytoplankton sampled across the Sacramento San Joaquin River Delta and San Francisco Bay (Bay-Delta) beginning in 2016. Whole water phytoplankton samples were collected intermittently during special projects and during routine visits to service continuous monitoring stations. Samples were preserved with Lugol’s iodine solution (2-5 %) immediately after collection and stored in a cool, dark environment until analysis. Preserved whole water samples are sent to BSA Environmental Services (BSA) in Beachwood, Ohio for microscopic identification and enumeration. A Leica DMLB compound microscope is used for enumerating filtered phytoplankton...

The dataset documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients, phytoplankton, and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and Suisun Bay of California, USA. The dataset includes nitrate, ammonium, orthophosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll as well as information about phytoplankton community composition. Data were collected under different environmental/flow conditions in June, July, August, and October of 2020, and May, July, and October of 2021. The data release consists of a .xml document, and .txt and shapefile documents. Descriptions for each document and file are listed in the...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Use Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the Nation's water-use data. Working in cooperation with local, State, and Federal agencies, the USGS has published an estimate of water use in the United States every 5 years, beginning in 1950. These 5-year compilations contain water-use estimates that are aggregated to the county level in the United States. This USGS data release contains summaries of method codes used in the 2015 national compilation of public supply, self-supplied domestic, thermoelectric, and irrigation water-use data. This data release also contains the county-level water-use estimates that support the evaluations in Luukkonen and others...

This data release includes grids representing the depth and thickness of drinking-water withdrawal zones, polygons of hydrogeologic settings, an inventory of sources of well construction data, and summaries of data comparisons used to assess the depth of groundwater used for drinking-water supplies in the United States. Well construction data sources are documented in Table1_DataSources.xlsx. Data comparisons using the Mann-Whitney test to assess similarity between hydrogeologic settings were used to justify combining data where they were sparse (compare_neighbors_all_domestic.txt and compare_neighbors_all_public.txt). Water-supply-well depth varies geographically by water use and the type of well, which illustrates...

The dataset documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in the North Delta, Central Delta, and the Western Delta out to Suisun Bay in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of California, USA. The dataset includes nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll as well as information about phytoplankton community composition. Data-collection cruises were conducted under three different environmental/flow conditions in May, July, and October of 2018. The data release consists of a xml document, 13 text/csv documents, and a zip file. Descriptions for each document and...

This model archive contains files for a set of groundwater flow, particle tracking, and management optimization models that simulate the area around the Navy-Northrop-Grumman contamination plume on Long Island, New York. These models were developed as in insets from the Long Island Regional “parent” Model, from which perimeter boundary conditions were inherited. In addition to input and output files for these models, this archive contains the modeling workflow python code and source data used to build the model. These materials have been included for repeatability and decision transparency.

A water use study was conducted to understand the drivers of historical water use in the Providence Water Supply Board network (the service area of Providence Water Supply Board and its wholesale customers) and to forecast future water use in the same network. A cubist regression model was developed to model daily per capita water use rates for three water use categories in each of the 10 public water suppliers within this network using data from 2005-2021. The three water use categories are domestic water use, commercial water use, and industrial water use. This cubist regression model was then used to forecast water use in 2030 and 2040 based on simulated future scenarios of low and high climate warming; low and...

Data was collected in the Cache Slough Complex located in the northern San Francisco Estuary to characterize water quality parameters at high spatial resolution. Data collection was conducted on three separate occasions: October 2017, May 2018, and October 2018. Data set includes nitrate, ammonium, ortho-phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, stable isotopes including water isotopes. Measurements were used to calculate evaporation to inflow ratios and water residence time.

Broad-area, high-resolution, boat-based water quality mapping surveys of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and Suisun Bay (Delta) of California, USA were conducted under different environmental/flow conditions in May, July, and October of 2022. The spatial and temporal variability of nutrients, phytoplankton, and related water quality parameters were assessed. This dataset includes measurements of nitrate, ammonium, orthophosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll as well as information about phytoplankton community composition.

Well construction data for 11,917 domestic and 2,390 public-supply wells in the Central Valley were compiled as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment Project (NAWQA) and California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Priority Basin Project (GAMA-PBP). Data were compiled for wells reported in the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database and from well information reported to the SWRCB Department of Drinking Water (SWRCB-DDW). Driller’s log data were transcribed from scanned images of well completion reports filed with California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The wells reported in this data release...

The Utah Groundwater Conditions Web Product is a comprehensive digital tool designed to monitor and report on the groundwater conditions across Utah. Developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for the Utah Department of Natural Resources, this web product integrates data from multiple sources to provide an annual update on groundwater levels and usage. The web product gives easy visual access to groundwater pumpage estimates along with other data such as water levels, stream discharge, and precipitation records. The charts allow users to see trends as well as correlations between multiple data sets. This web product will be updated yearly.
