These datasets provide early estimates of 2021 fractional cover for exotic annual grass (EAG) species and a native perennial grass predicted on July 1 using satellite observation data available no later than June 28th. Four fractional cover maps comprise this release, along with the corresponding confidence maps, for: 1) a group of 17 species of EAGs (i.e., Bromus arvensis L., Bromus briziformis, Bromus catharticus Vahl, Bromus commutatus, Bromus diandrus, Bromus hordeaceus L., Bromus hordeaceus spp. hordeaceus, Bromus japonicus, Bromus madritensis L., Bromus madritensis L. ssp. rubens (L.) Duvin, Bromus L., Bromus racemosus, Bromus rubens L., Bromus secalinus L., Bromus tectorum L., Bromus texensis (Shear) Hitchc.,...

One of the largest hydraulic mines (1.6 km2) is located in California’s Sierra Nevada within the Humbug Creek watershed and Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park (MDSHP). MDSHP’s denuded and dissected landscape is composed of weathered Eocene auriferous sediments susceptible to chronic rill and gully erosion whereas block failures and debris flows occur in more cohesive terrain. This data release includes a 2014 digital elevation model (DEM), a study area boundary, and a geomorphic map. The 2014 DEM was derived from an available aerial LiDAR dataset collected in 2014 by the California Department of Conservation. The geomorphic map was derived for the study area from using a multi-scale spatial analysis. A topographic...

This dataset release provides historical (2016 - 2022) estimates of fractional cover for exotic annual grass (EAG) species and a native perennial bunch grass in the arid and semi-arid rangelands of the western United States. The dataset includes four fractional cover maps per year, accompanied by corresponding confidence maps, for a group of 16 species of EAGs, cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum); medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae); and Sandberg bluegrass (Poa secunda). The data were generated using a combination of field observations from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) plots; remotely sensed data from the Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 (HLS) product (specifically Normalized...

The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for two projects: The Bayou Dupont Sediment Delivery - Marsh Creation #3 and Terracing (BA-0164) and Mississippi River Long Distance Sediment Pipeline (BA-0043-EB) Marsh Creation project for 2018. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification....

The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) develop restoration plans in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Large-Scale Marsh Creation Project – Upper Barataria Component Restoration (BA-0207) project for 2018. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify...

This dataset, created in support of USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2020-5075, Estimates of Groundwater Discharge by Evapotranspiration, Stump Spring and Hiko Springs, Clark County, Nevada, 2016-18, represents a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index calculated for vegetated areas in the Hiko Springs groundwater discharge area. Vegetated areas within the GDA are composed of phreatophytic shrubs interspersed with xeric vegetation and bare soil. The GDA was delineated by visual interpretation of 1-meter National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) aerial imagery acquired in May of 2015. Areas of channel scour within the GDA resulting from a flood event in September 2015 were delineated from a 2016 1.84-meter...

The dataset provides a spatially explicit estimate of 2019 herbaceous annual percent cover predicted on May 1st with an emphasis on annual grasses. The estimate is based on the mean output of two regression-tree models. For one model, we include, as an independent variable amongst other independent variables, a dataset that is the mean of 17-years of annual herbaceous percent cover (https://doi.org/10.5066/F71J98QK). This model's test mean error rate (n = 1670), based on nine different randomizations, equals 4.9% with a standard deviation of +/- 0.15. A second model was developed that did not include the mean of 17-years of annual herbaceous percent cover, and this model's test mean error rate (n = 1670), based...

We created a single map of surface water presence by intersecting water classes from available land cover products (National Wetland Inventory, Gap Analysis Program, National Land Cover Database, and Dynamic Surface Water Extent) across the U.S. state of Arizona. We derived classified samples for four wetland classes from the harmonized map: water, herbaceous wetlands, wooded wetlands, and non-wetland cover. In Google Earth Engine (GEE) we developed a random forest model that combined the training data with spatially explicit predictor variables of vegetation greenness indices, wetness indices, seasonal index variation, topographic variables, and hydrologic parameters. The final product is a wall-to-wall map of...

A map of the wavelength position of the white mica 2,200 nanometer (nm) Al-OH absorption feature was compiled for a region of Nabesna, Alaska, using HyMap™ reflectance data provided and described in this data release. White mica wavelength position was computed for each pixel with spectrally predominant muscovite or illite. The computation was made using a function of the USGS PRISM (Processing Routines in IDL for Spectroscopic Measurements) software (Kokaly, 2011), programmed in Interactive Data Language (IDL; Harris Geospatial Solutions, Broomfield, Colorado). The PRISM function applies linear continuum-removal (Clark and Roush, 1984) to the 2,200 nm feature and fits a parabola to three channels: the channel...

This layer depicts the status, or degree of disturbance, to plant communities on the main Hawaiian Islands. Several layers were uset to create this version (v 3.4). The original HabQual layer was developed by Jon Price and Jim Jacobi based on the mapped land cover units from the Hawaii GAP analysis program (Gon et al. 2006). This map was revised by combining data on land use and the “Bare” category from the NOAA C-CAP 2005 map (NOAA National Ocean Service Coastal Services Center 2012), and adding road corridors to the heavily disturbed category based on the Tiger Roads layer (United States Census Bureau 2014). Additionally, corrections were made to this version of the map by visually inspecting previously mapped...
