This dataset includes well logs used in the creation of the Jamestown hydrogeologic framework. Well logs were used from multiple sources (DEC, DOT, NWIS, ESOGIS, and recently digitized archived material) and were a crucial component in generating hydrogeologic layer elevations and thicknesses. Well logs are available in their original form on GeoLog Locator (https://webapps.usgs.gov/GeoLogLocator/#!/) and provided here in the digitized form (shapefiles and feature classes), which were used in the generation of the hydrogeologic framework.
The town of Olean is located in Cattaraugus County, New York. Previous USGS reports here include Water- Resource Investigations Report 87-4043 (Yager and Bergeron, 1998), Water- Resource Investigations Report 85-4082 (Bergeron, 1987), and Water- Resource Investigations Report 85-4157 (Zarriello and Reynolds, 1987). The five child pages below break the data up into georeferenced and digitized previous report data, interpreted geologic information, well logs, supplemental point data, and interpolation statistics.

This dataset contains stream-stage data for Josephine Canyon near Tumacácori, Arizona (JC1). The pressure transducer was housed in a crest-stage pipe mounted to the bridge pier of Pendleton Drive. The data were recorded using non-vented Solinst Levelogger for the period of October 07, 2015 to December 31, 2016. The data are logged continuously at a 15-minute interval and manually downloaded. Data were corrected with the atmospheric pressure collected from a Solinst Barologger located at SC14 and checked for erroneous data.

Stream networks with reservoirs provide a particularly hard modeling challenge because reservoirs can decouple physical processes (e.g., water temperature dynamics in streams) from atmospheric signals. Including observed reservoir releases as inputs to models can improve water temperature predictions below reservoirs, but many reservoirs are not well-observed. This data release contains predictions from stream temperature models described in Jia et al. 2022, which describes different deep learning and process-guided deep learning model architectures that were developed to handle scenarios of missing reservoir releases. The spatial extent of this modeling effort was restricted to two spatially disjointed regions...

Daily temperature predictions in the Delaware River Basin (DRB) can inform decision makers who can use cold-water reservoir releases to maintain thermal habitat for sensitive fish and mussel species. This data release supports a variety of flow and water temperature modeling efforts and provides the inputs and outputs of both machine learning and process-based modeling methods across 456 river reaches and 2 reservoirs in the DRB. The data are organized into these items: This research was funded by the USGS. Waterbody Information - One shapefile of polylines for the 456 river segments in this study, a reservoir polygon metadata file, and one shapefile of reservoir polygons for the Pepacton and Cannonsville reservoirs...
What will the rivers of the Pacific Northwest look like in the future? Will they be stable or unstable? Will the waters be cold and clear or warm and muddy? Will they have salmon or other species? These questions motivated our two-year study of climate warming effects on headwater streams draining the Cascade Mountains. Using a novel combination of snow, geohydrology, and sediment transport models we assessed the vulnerability of stream channels to changing peak streamflow. Our snow modeling shows that with just a 2°C warming, snowfall shifts to rainfall at all elevations, peak snowpacks occur over two months earlier, and snowpacks are reduced by over half of historical values. Our geohydrology modeling shows that...

Final Report WaterSMART Agreement No. R13AP80033Introduction: Sky Island Alliance is a non‐governmental organization that works to protect and restore the rich natural heritage of native species and habitats in the Sky Island Region. We work with volunteers, scientists, land‐owners, public officials, and government agencies to establish protected areas, restore healthy landscapes, and promote public appreciation of the region’s unique biological diversity.Springs are keystone ecosystems in the Sky Island Region, exert disproportionate influence on surrounding landscapes, and are known to be biodiversity hotspots. Although they are abundant in this arid region, they are poorly documented and little studied. Changing...

Executive Summary: Our project combined field surveys of fish communities and habitat characteristics with estimates of population genetic structure to identify and evaluate critical factors influencing fish communities in the Gila River basin of New Mexico. Fish communities were structured along a strong habitat gradient associated with stream size, with distinct differences in the distribution of native and nonnative fishes. Nonnative warm-water species generally occurred in mainstem habitats, whereas coldwater nonnative salmonids occurred in high elevation tributaries. Habitat affinities of native species varied, with some occurring in mainstem habitats and others in tributaries. Several native species, such...

The Environmental Conservation Online System (ECOS) is a gateway web site that provides access to data systems in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) and other government data sources. This central point of access assists Service personnel in managing data and information, and it provides public access to information from numerous Service databases. ECOS serves a variety of reports related to FWS Threatened and Endangered Species. A selection of our most popular reports is listed below. See the Species Reports for the complete list. A reservation of water for in-stream use is a water right that protects specific in-stream water uses, such as fish spawning or recreation. It sets aside the water necessary for these activities and keeps later water users from appropriating water that may affect the in-stream activity. This dataset includes those features that are represented by polygons. This dataset includes additional information extracted from the Alaska Land Administration System by the Conservation Biology Institute. Water can be reserved for one or more permissible uses on a particular part of a stream or lake during a certain period of time. Under AS 46.15.145, permissible in-stream uses include: Protection of fish and wildlife habitat,...

Fanno Creek is a tributary to the Tualatin River and flows though parts of the southwest Portland metropolitan area. The stream is heavily influenced by urban runoff and shows characteristic flashy streamflow and poor water quality commonly associated with urban streams. This data set represents the floodplain land cover as derived from light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data and aerial photographic imagery. The land cover classifications...

A map of the realtime stations is produced every day.

We developed a suite of models using deep learning to make hindcast predictions of the 7-day average backward-looking nitrate concentration at 46 predominantly agricultural sites across the midwestern and eastern United States. The models used daily observations of discharge and meteorological variables and static watershed attributes describing anthropogenic modification to hydrology, nitrogen application, climate, groundwater, land use and land cover, watershed physical attributes, and soils. Across all sites, discharge and watershed soil and physiographic attributes show a particularly strong influence on model performance. An analysis of drivers across sites revealed considerable regional differences related...

As the third largest federal land manager in the United States (Keystone Center 1996a), the Department of Defense (DoD) mandates the conservation and wise management of the natural resources on military installations. To this end, DoD policy directs each Army installation to produce an Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP), the purpose of which is to “ensure that natural resource conservation measures and Army activities on mission land are integrated and consistent with federal stewardship requirements” (Army Goals and Implementing Guidance for Natural Resource Planning Level Surveys and Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans, 21 March 1997). The basic goal of this INRMP is to support and sustain...

The INRMP is based on ecosystem management principles and identifies responsibilities for management of natural resources, land use and mission activities and their potential effects on the environment, descriptions of the physical and ecosystem environments, mission impacts on natural resources, natural resources program management, and management goals and objectives. The INRMP also includes specific management methods, schedules of activities and...
