This dataset consists of digital scans of color infrared aerial photography from the Upper Mississippi River collected in 1975.
This Data Release provides spatial data to support analysis of land cover change and channel width change in the Bogachiel and Calawah River basins, Washington. This supports a larger analysis that quantifies suspended-sediment yields for the two basins for water years 1977-1978 and more recently, for water years 2019-2021. Collectively the study evaluates influences of hydrology, geology, fire, and land cover change on suspended-sediment yields. The metadata file describes the Data Release structure, but briefly, this Data Release includes zipped files of: 1. Historical imagery for the Bogachiel and Calawah River basins, 2. shapefiles of digitized centerline, active channel areas, and cleared areas for the two...

Aerial photographs of the Yampa and Little Snake Rivers acquired in 1954 and 1961 were used to examine channel changes occurring along these two rivers during this time period. In addition, these data were used to develop and test a generalizable new approach to characterizing the uncertainty associated with analyses of channel change based on time series of remotely sensed data, which we term the Spatially Distributed Probabilistic (SDP) method. This technique accounts for errors introduced during: 1) image co-registration and geo-referencing; 2) interpreting the location of the channel boundary; and 3) digitizing the channel boundary. The method provides a probability distribution of channel locations and can...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) maintains shoreline positions for the United States coasts from both older sources, such as aerial photograph or topographic surveys, and contemporary sources, such as lidar-point clouds and digital elevation models. These shorelines are compiled and analyzed in the Digital Shoreline Analysis System software (v5.1) to compute their rates of change. Keeping a record of historical shoreline positions is an effective method to monitor change over time, enabling scientists to identify areas most susceptible to erosion or accretion. These data can help coastal managers understand which areas of the coast are vulnerable to change. This data release, and other associated products, represent...
