Ice cave climate data and frost imagery at Sunset Crater, AZ: 02 March 2021 to 13 December 2022

The purpose of the data collection was to monitor the microclimate in the “Bonito Flow” Ice Cave located in Sunset Crater National Monument. This cave is considered a sacred spot for some southwestern tribes as it was a historical source for ice. The main purpose of the climate monitoring was to determine if the cave is still an active ice cave, i.e., a cave that contains perennial ice. The data acquired consists of temperatures, humidity, and pressures throughout the cave structure and also includes temperatures and humidity measured outside of the cave, near the entrance. These data are in seven tables relating to surveys of eelgrass (Zostera marina) and widgeongrass (Ruppia maritima) beds in embayments of the north Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexico. The tables provide environmental conditions, eelgrass and widgeongrass abundance, and measurements used to estimate their aboveground biomass. These tables also provide information on percent cover, location, and tide height of eelgrass, widgeongrass and seaweeds, and water conditions during the survey. Limnology data from Lake Powell, desert southwest USA (ver. 2.1, September 2024)

These data were compiled as part of a long-term (1964 - 2022) water quality monitoring program at Lake Powell. Objectives of our study were to release a consistent record of long-term water quality data. The 58-year limnology dataset captures some water quality parameters (temperature, salinity, major ions, total suspended solids) from reservoir filling to present day. It also contains a 38-year record of secchi depth, and a ~30-year record of nutrients, phytoplankton, and zooplankton assemblages. The data were collected from various sites within the Lake Powell reservoir and the Glen Canyon dam. Cave climate data in Wood Valley pit crater, Hawai'i

Wood Valley Pit Crater is a nearly circular pit approximately 50m across and 50m deep with vertical walls. This pit is of particular interest because it hosts access to a cave entrance at its base, providing an opportunity to monitor cave climate throughout a type of cave structure that is ordinarily inaccessible. In-situ cave climate observations included cold trapping, cave breathing, possible effects from geothermal heating, and cave fog possibly induced by atmospheric thermal tides. Sensors were emplaced throughout the cave to continuously monitor variations of temperature, atmospheric pressure, and relative humidity.

Meteorological measurements from five weather stations in Grand and San Juan Counties in southeastern Utah (ver. 3.0, September 2024)

These data were compiled from six automated weather stations that together provide several points in the meteorological record across a latitudinal and elevational gradient in southeastern Utah. Recorded data from these weather stations are associated with several different studies. Meteorological data are important for quantifying short term weather events as well as longer term climate trends. Spatially separated precipitation gauges allow for better characterization of the heterogeneity of precipitation events. These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program and describe mussel sampling and observations conducted in the northern Gulf of Alaska. This dataset consists of six comma separated files (.csv): 1) mussel sampling site layout information, 2) mussel counts for mussels greater than 20 millimeters in a quadrat, 3) mussel size measurements for mussels greater than 20 millimeters in a quadrat, 4) mussel counts for all mussels collected from core samples, 5) mussel size frequencies for all mussels collected from core samples, and 6) list of Gulf Watch Alaska principal investigators and collaborators. Survey results for yellow-billed Cuckoo occupancy and nesting in xeroriparian habitat in southeastern Arizona from 2013 through 2020

These data were compiled to investigate the distribution and breeding status of yellow-billed cuckoos (Coccyzus americanus) in southeastern Arizona xeroriparian habitat by comparing the results of standardized call-playback surveys to the results of nest searching efforts in the same sites from 2018 to 2020. The primary purpose of the study associated with these data was to determine and document the occurrence and extent of nesting in these poorly studied xeroriparian habitats. These data represent breeding evidence for yellow-billed cuckoos at 54 documented sites from 2018-2020 and the results of yellow-billed cuckoo surveys collected at 163 sites from 2013-2020 in xeroriparian habitats in southeastern Arizona....

This dataset consists of three tables relating to (1) detections of adult McKay's Buntings from line transect with distance estimation surveys on St. Matthew and Hall islands in Alaska between May 30 and June 29, 2003 and June 6 and 11, 2018, (2) environmental covariates associated with detections of adult McKay's Buntings in less than or equal to 250-m long contiguous transect segments, and (3) environmental covariates used to predict McKay's Bunting population size in less than or equal to 300 x 300-m pixels across the study area in each year, and to estimate population change between years.

These data are records collected from an automated weather station and four stand-alone tipping bucket rain gauges each with their own data logger that were in operation between February 2005 and December 2023 in the Badger Wash Study Area near Mack, Colorado as part of a larger project funded by the Bureau of Land Management.
