The geology data set for this map includes arcs, polygons, and labels that outline and describe the general geologic age and type of bedrock of Iran. The geologic provinces data set includes arcs, polygons, and labels of geologic and petroleum provinces interpreted and designated by R.M. Pollastro from a number of literature and map resources to assist in the assessment of oil and gas resources for the USGS World Energy Project. The oil and gas field centerpoints data set is a point coverage that marks the approximate centerpoints of oil and gas fields in Iran. Political boundaries are provided to show the general location of country and/or other reference 'political' boundaries.
Within the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), three-dimensional (3D) geologic models are created as part of geologic framework studies, to support energy, minerals, or water resource assessments, and to inform geologic hazard assessments. Such models are often used within the organization as digital input into process and predictive models. 3D geological modeling typically supports research and project work within a specific part of the USGS – called Mission Areas – and as a result, 3D modeling activities are decentralized and model results are released on a project-by-project basis. This digital data release inventories and catalogs, for the first time, 3D geological models constructed by the USGS across all Mission...

High-resolution single-channel minisparker seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in March and April 2007 from San Francisco to San Gregorio, offshore San Mateo County, California. Data were collected aboard the R/V Fulmar, during field activity F-02-07-NC. Minisparker data were collected using a SIG 2-mille minisparker sound source combined with a single-channel streamer, and recorded with a Triton SB-Logger.

Underwater video imagery was collected in March 2014 in the nearshore waters of Faga'alu Bay on the Island of Tutuila, American Samoa, as part of the U.S. Geological Survey Coastal and Marine Geology Program's Pacific Coral Reefs Project. Included here are 40 video files in .mpg format and an Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) shapefile with location (navigation) points every two seconds.

This dataset contains polygons representing deposits of hyaloclastic debris that were generated between about 3.5 and 3.0 million years ago when a series of basaltic lava flows entered the canyon of the ancestral Columbia River. The lava flows were erupted from volcanoes in the area of the Hood River graben of McClaughry and others (2012), generally have low-potassium tholeiitic basalt composition, and were part of a widespread pulse of mafic volcanism in the northern Oregon Cascade Range that occurred between about 4.4 and 2.1 million years ago (Conrey and others, 1996). Lava flows that entered the ancestral Columbia River were rapidly chilled and fragmented during interaction with water (Trimble, 1963, Swanson,...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled national shoreline data for more than 20 years to document coastal change and serve the needs of research, management, and the public. Maintaining a record of historical shoreline positions is an effective method to monitor national shoreline evolution over time, enabling scientists to identify areas most susceptible to erosion or accretion. These data can help coastal managers and planners understand which areas of the coast are vulnerable to change. This data release includes one new mean high water (MHW) shoreline extracted from lidar data collected in 2017 for the entire coastal region of North Carolina which is divided into four subregions: northern North Carolina...

Geologic structure and isopach maps were constructed by interpreting over 19,890 trackline kilometers of co-located multichannel boomer, sparker and chirp seismic reflection profiles from the continental shelf of the Delmarva Peninsula, Maryland and Virginia. In this region, Brothers and others (2020) interpret 12 seismic units and 11 regional unconformities. They interpret the infilled channels as Late Tertiary and Quaternary courses of the Susquehanna, Potomac, Rappahannock, York and James Rivers and tributaries, in addition to a broad drainage system. These regional unconformities form a composite unconformity interpreted as the Quaternary-Tertiary (Q-T) unconformity. A depth to Tertiary (Uqt) and total Quaternary...

This shapefile includes strike and dip information for the area of the Stillwater Complex, located in southwestern Montana. This dataset was created from pre-existing digital strike and dip information and from digitizing strike and dip locations from georeferenced map images. The data includes information about the strike and dip locations; the geologic unit and rock type the measurement was taken on; information about the source map, such as map title and scale; and other miscellaneous information. Version 2.0 includes additional strike and dip measurements and updated locations for many points resulting from maps that were re-georeferenced using high resolution lidar. For access to the previous version of this...
