In 2023, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, collected groundwater-level altitude and water-quality data from monitoring wells at the Petro-Chemical Systems, Inc. (Turtle Bayou) Superfund Site in Liberty County, Texas. The data were collected to obtain information that could be used to provide an update on the status of groundwater contamination at the site. This data release documents the groundwater-level altitudes, field properties, and water-quality data obtained in 2023 from six of the 11 monitoring wells where similar data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in August and September 2020 (Braun and Becher 2022). The environmental and quality-control...

Groundwater samples were collected and analyzed from 782 wells as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment Project of the U.S. Geological Survey National Water-Quality Program and the water-quality data and quality-control data are included in this data release. The samples were collected from three types of well networks: principal aquifer study networks, which are used to assess the quality of groundwater used for public water supply; land-use study networks, which are used to assess land-use effects on shallow groundwater quality, and major aquifer study networks, which are used to assess the quality of groundwater used for domestic supply. Groundwater samples were analyzed for a large number of water-quality...
Water rights in the State of Kansas are complex and dynamic entities that permit their owners the privilege of appropriating water for beneficial use. The amount of information collected on water rights is extensive and increases each year. The Kansas Department of Agriculture, Division of Water Resources (KDA-DWR), currently maintains an Oracle-based RDBMS called the Water Rights Information System (WRIS). The WRIS contains over 70 relational tables that store data on points of diversion (e.g. ground-water wells and surface water intakes), place of use, authorized quantity and rate allocations, historic reported water usage, and a host of other parameters. The ability to extract out information from the WRIS data...

This Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) GeoPackage (.gpkg) contains water-well point features and associated tables for the state of Minnesota that have been reformatted based on a USGS profile of the OGC GroundWaterML2 (GWML2) standard (https://docs.ogc.org/is/19-013/19-013.html). The water-well records provided in this data set have not received additional processing or interpretation by the USGS beyond the GWML2 standardization. The National Water-Well Database (NWWDB) is a compilation of water-well records from state-managed databases that have been standardized to a common format for consistency across state and administrative boundaries. Water-well completion reports that are submitted to permitting state agencies...

The rapidly increasing demands being placed on our deserts points to the urgent need for a connectivity assessment that spans multiple jurisdictional boundaries and promotes the partnerships needed to implement a regional conservation strategy for this diverse and striking landscape. The vast scale of renewable energy developments proposed in the California deserts are likely to impact habitat connectivity, alter essential ecosystem functions, and eliminate opportunities for species to shift their ranges in response to climate change. The potential impacts of energy development on our existing public lands, specifically to wildlife and their ability to move across the landscape, are enormous. The primary goal of...

This data release (version 3.0, January 2020) consists of two files, a Microsoft® Access database and Microsoft® Excel workbook, that contain water levels collected from 1941 to 2019 and other hydrologic information for 919 wells in and near areas of underground nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site. This version (3.0) of the data release contains the most current version of the database and workbook and supersedes all previous versions.

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) and magnetic survey data were collected by CGG Canada Services Ltd. in collaboration with the USGS for the City of Cedar Rapids in a 53-square-kilometer area of the Cedar River Basin to the west of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The survey was flown between May 4 and May 5, 2017 along 347 line kilometers. Electromagnetic data were acquired using RESOLVE frequency-domain helicopter-borne electromagnetic system. Magnetic data were collected with 1-Scintres Cesium Vapour (CS-3) magnetometer. Sensor elevation above ground was measured with Optech G-150 laser. The nominal elevation of the sensor was 30 m. This data release includes processed AEM and magnetic data and inverted resistivity depth sections.

The Little Colorado River alluvial aquifer near Leupp, Arizona was investigated as a possible source of irrigation water for the Leupp and Birdsprings Chapters of the Navajo Nation. The physical, chemical, and hydraulic characteristics of the alluvial aquifer were studied using geophysical surveys, installation of observation wells, water-level measurements, chemical analyses, groundwater pumping simulations, and review of previous investigations. Geophysical surveys and well borings were used to measure the thickness of the aquifer. Geophysical surveys included Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) to better define the alluvial channel of the Little Colorado River near Leupp. ERT is a commonly used electrical...

This data release consists of 1,984 line-kilometers of airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic data and radiometric data collected from October to November 2017 in the upper East River and surrounding watersheds in central Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey contracted Geotech Ltd. to acquire these data as part of regional investigations into the geologic structure and hydrologic framework of the area. The AEM data have been inverted to produce a series of regional cross-sections that constrain the electrical properties of the subsurface to a depth of ~500m. Data were acquired using the VTEM ET time-domain helicopter-borne electromagnetic system along flight lines that cross important geological structures over...

The groundwater water-quality data were compiled from Water Quality Portal (https://www.waterqualitydata.us/) (National Water Quality Monitoring Council, 2015), USGS’s NAWQA Project’s data compilation (Oelsner and others, 2017), and the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (Montana Bureau of Mines, 2021), The compilation contains data for chloride, pH, specific conductance, sulfate, total dissolved solids (TDS) collected between water year 1970 to 2014. In addition 10 metals (aluminum, arsenic, barium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, selenium strontium, and zinc) analyzed during water years 1993 through 2014. National Water-Quality Monitoring Council, 2015, Water Quality Portal: National Water-Quality Monitoring Council,...
