The Neversink River watershed (above the Neversink Reservoir) has been a focus of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) research regarding stream geochemistry, acidification, and ecology dynamics for decades. In 2019, the Water Mission Area Next Generation Water Observing Systems Program augmented the existing stream gage network there, including instrumentation to specifically characterize various aspects of groundwater discharge to streams. An important control on the spatiotemporal dynamics of groundwater discharge can be stream valley corridor depth to bedrock, otherwise conceptualized as the thickness of unconsolidated sediments sediments over the contiguous bedrock interface. In June 2019, and November 2020, passive...
Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is a trace atmospheric gas that is primarily of anthropogenic origin but also occurs naturally in fluid inclusions in some minerals and igneous rocks, and in some volcanic and igneous fluids. SF6 has been used as a dating tool of groundwater because atmospheric concentrations of SF6 are expected to continue increasing (Busenberg and Plummer, 1997). SF6 samples were collected in 30 wells in New Hanover County, North Carolina in May 2017. The results of these samples were input into a spreadsheet calculator developed by the USGS Groundwater Dating lab in order to estimate groundwater age based on SF6 concentrations. The wells sampled include monitoring, domestic, and large water user wells...

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2009 in and near the San Luis Basin, New Mexico. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including MT surveys, in the San Luis Basin to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater aquifers of the Rio Grande rift. The shallow unconfined and the deeper confined Santa Fe Group aquifers in the San Luis Basin are the main sources of municipal water for the region. The population of the San Luis Basin region is growing rapidly and water shortfalls could have serious consequences. Future growth and land management...

This dataset consists of contours showing the generalized depth to water for the shallow groundwater system in the Lower Gunnison River Basin in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. Depth to water was contoured from values in the raster dataset dtw. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

This dataset consists of contours showing the generalized saturated thickness of the shallow groundwater system in the Lower Gunnison River Basin in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. Saturated thickness was contoured from values in the raster dataset satthk. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

Contours (20-foot interval) showing altitude of the bedrock surface in feet above NGVD 29 underlying the alluvium in the Lower Arkansas River Valley, Southeast Colorado. Source contours scale was 1:62,500. All digitizing and geoprocessing was done using ArcGIS Desktop v10 (Environmental Systems Research Institute, 2011)

Boundary of the alluvium in the Lower Arkansas River Valley, Southeast Colorado. Boundary defined by extent of available bedrock information and geologic maps. Also includes approximate shoreline of John Martin Reservoir in Bent County, Colorado. Scale of maps used for digitization was 1:62,500. All digitization and geoprocessing was done using ArcGIS Desktop v10 (Environmental Systems Research Institute, 2011)

This data release includes audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) sounding data collected in July 2018 in the Silverton Caldera complex, Colorado, in the Southern Rocky Mountain Volcanic Field, by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Along with geologic mapping, airborne magnetics, airborne electromagnetics, and magnetotellurics, the USGS collected AMT data at 24 sites along four profiles ranging from 3 to 6 kilometers in length across the north-western structural margin of the Silverton caldera in Mineral Basin (MB01-MB05), across the south-eastern margin of the caldera along Cunningham Creek (CC01-CC05), within the caldera in Eureka Graben (EG01-EG05), and within the caldera along upper Cement Creek near the Gold King mine...

The groundwater-level change maps for the Sparta-Memphis aquifer are constructed as a point-to-point comparison between wells measured in both 2011 and 2013. Wells not measured in both 2011 and 2013 were not included in the change maps construction. The 2011-2013 change map contains 261 corresponding wells. Groundwater-level differences were calculated by subtracting 2011 groundwater-level measurements, in ft below land surface from the 2013 groundwater-level measurements, in feet below land surface.

The Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) has become one of the most important agricultural regions in the US, and it relies heavily on a groundwater system that is poorly understood and shows signs of substantial change. The heavy use of the available groundwater resources has resulted in significant groundwater-level declines and reductions in base flow in streams within the MAP. These impacts are limiting well production and threatening future water-availability for the region. This product will help not only scientists in our center, but also at a national level. This product will also be part of a larger study encompassing the Mississippi Alluvial Plain region. The Mississippi Alluvial Plain extent was delineated...
Airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data were acquired November 2018 to February 2019 along 16,816 line-kilometers (line-km) over the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP). Data were acquired by CGG Canada Services, Ltd. with three different helicopter-borne sensors: the CGG Canada Services, Ltd. Resolve frequency-domain AEM instrument that is used to map subsurface geologic structure at depths up to 100 meters, depending on the subsurface resistivity; a Scintrex CS-3 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (hundreds of meters to kilometers) geologic structure based on variations in the magnetic properties of different formations; and a Radiation Solutions RS-500 spectrometer that...

This point dataset contains geologic information concerning regolith thickness and top-of-bedrock altitude at selected well and test-hole locations in the Lower Gunnison River Basin in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. Regolith-thickness data were compiled from lithologic logs of wells and boreholes reported by the Colorado Division of Water Resources, U.S. Geological Survey, and Bureau of Reclamation. Bedrock-altitude values were computed from the bedrock altitude raster dataset (bralt). The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

This dataset consists of isopach contours showing the generalized thickness of regolith sediments (alluvium, colluvium, and weathered bedrock) overlying well-consolidated bedrock in the Lower Gunnison River Basin in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. Regolith thickness was contoured manually on the basis of regolith-thickness values in the point dataset geologic_data. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

In February 2017, the Grand River Dam Authority filed to relicense the Pensacola Hydroelectric Project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The predominant feature of the Pensacola Hydroelectric Project is Pensacola Dam, which impounds Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees (locally called Grand Lake) in northeastern Oklahoma. Identification of information gaps and assessment of project effects on stakeholders are central aspects of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing process. Some upstream stakeholders have expressed concerns about the dynamics of sedimentation and flood flows in the transition zone between major rivers and Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. To relicense the Pensacola Hydroelectric Project...
