These topographic/bathymetric digital elevation models (DEMs) were collected and compiled to characterize erosion and deposition in the Colorado River and in an adjacent zone of laterally recirculating flow (eddy) during both average flow conditions and during a controlled flood that occurred in March 2008. The objectives of the study were to measure changes sandbar morphology that occurred during changes in discharge associated with the controlled flood. These data were collected between February 6 and March 31, 2008 in a 1-mile study reach on the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park beginning 44.5 miles downstream from Lees Ferry, Arizona. These data were collected by the USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring...
In February 2016 the University of Washington in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS, PCMSC) collected multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data in the Catalina Basin aboard the University of Washington's Research Vessel Thomas G. Thompson. Data was collected using a Kongsberg EM300 multibeam echosounder hull-mounted to the 274-foot R/V Thomas G. Thompson. The USGS, PCMSC processed these data and produced a series of bathymetric surfaces and acoustic backscatter images for scientific research purposes. A 25-m bathymetric surface produced from this work was merged with publically available multibeam bathymetry data as well as 2015, 2016, and 2017 multibeam...

This shapefile contains center-beam depths for approximately 5727 trackline kilometers of Simrad EM122 multibeam-bathymetry data collected in the Bering Sea during U.S. Geological Survey - Coastal and Marine Geology Program cruise MGL1111 aboard the R/V Marcus G. Langseth. The depth values were extracted from gridded data which were reduced for position, elevation, orientation, water-column sound-speed, and refraction effects.

This metadata describes a digital elevation model (DEM) created from bathymetric and topographic data collected between 2017 and 2019 in the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel (DWSC), northern Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California. We merged the newly collected bathymetric and topographic data presented in this data release (DOI:10.5066/P9AQSRVH) with 2019 surveys by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and 2017 USGS Sacramento Delta Lidar, to produce a seamless digital elevation model of the DWSC at a grid resolution of 1 m.
Remote sensing technologies, such as high-resolution sonar, can be used to collect more detailed information about the benthic and water column characteristics of macro habitats in the Illinois River. Multibeam echosounders (MBES) collect multibeam and sidescan simultaneously, providing high-resolution images of the riverbed. Sidescan images, in raster format, show the recorded intensity of acoustic signal returns from the riverbed. The acoustic data were collected from the main and side channels (where accessible) of the Dresden reach June 4 – 28, 2018.

Hydroacoustic (sonar) data were collected for the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Minnesota Rivers for the development of high-resolution bathymetry and sidescan imagery. Small areas containing priority mussel habitat had additional collection efforts to map water velocities and bottom composition. Combining these data in a GIS can provide key components to characterizing physical benthic habitat for native mussels in a riverine environment. These information needs were highly desired by the National Park Service to more accurately assess environmental factors that influence native mussel distribution. The collaborative effort was funded by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) Environment...

St. Croix River,
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected hydroacoustic data of the St. Croix River adjacent to the Osceola (WI) boat ramp for hydrographic and benthic mapping prior to the reconstruction project implemented by the National Park Service (NPS). Backscatter is the acoustic reflectivity, which is the measure of energy obtained from the echo intensity, and can provide an indication about the nature of the river bottom and its physical character. Image analysis and classification of backscatter, with the combined datasets of bathymetry (and its derivatives) and ground truthing, can predict surficial substrate, or sediment type. For habitat analysis, these datasets were desired by the NPS to help inform and mitigate...

From May 2017 to November 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted bathymetric surveys of New York City's East of Hudson Reservoirs. Bathymetry data were collected at Kirk Lake during June 2017. Depth data were collected primarily with a multibeam echosounder. Quality assurance points were measured with a single-beam echosounder. Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) and static global navigation satellite system (GNSS) surveys and submersible pressure transducers. Measured sound velocity profiles were used to correct echosounder depth measurements for thermal stratification. Digital elevation models were created by combining the measured bathymetry data with lidar elevation...

Hydroacoustic estimates of fish density are used for fisheries management in central Lake Erie. Data are sometimes collected from multiple vessels, raising the question of comparability of data collected among vessels. Hydroacoustic data were collected along three cross-lake transects in central Lake Erie in July, 2014 from three different vessels using similar equipment. Several variables derived from hydroacoustic data and fish densities calculated from those variables were compared between the standard vessel used typically for hydroacoustic data collection and two other vessels used occasionally. The data used in those analyses are presented here.

The Sandy Hook artificial reef, located on the sea floor offshore of Sandy Hook, New Jersey was built to create habitat for marine life. The reef was created by the placement of heavy materials on the sea floor; ninety-five percent of the material in the Sandy Hook reef is rock. In 2000, the U.S. Geological Survey surveyed the area using a Simrad EM1000 multibeam echosounder mounted on the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) ship Frederick G. Creed. The purpose of this multibeam survey, done in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers when the Creed was in the New York region in April 2000, was to map the bathymetry and backscatter intensity of the sea floor in the area of the Sandy Hook artificial reef. The collected...

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. Holden City Lake is a water supply lake used by the city of Holden in west-central Missouri. The surface...
