This data package contains location data collected by the Argos System (CLS America, Inc.) from satellite transmitters attached to 116 Lesser Yellowlegs captured at multiple sites across their breeding and nonbreeding range in North America, 2018-2021. The raw data were processed to accomplish two goals: 1) flag implausible location and 2) remove locations within Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) and Eielson Air Force Base boundaries. Removal of locations in military land boundaries is required due to federal guidelines by Department of Defense (DoD) Public Affairs office and DoD Partners in Flight. Due to data sharing constraints of participating agencies, not all the locations (i.e., latitude and longitude)...

South America is part of Region 6 (Central and South America) for the World Energy Assessment. South America was divided into 107 geologic provinces as background for prioritization and assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The boundaries of geologic provinces are required for the assessment as oil and gas. Data must be allocated to a geographic entity so that decisions can be made as to which provinces are priority for the assessment. Many sources of geologic information were used to define the province boundaries in South America, and several versions of the map were reviewed. Of the 107 geologic provinces defined in South America, about 40 have had some oil and gas production to date.

The North American Bird Banding Program is administered through the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Bird Banding Laboratory (BBL), Eastern Ecological Science Center at the Patuxent Research Refuge (EESC) and the Bird Banding Office (BBO), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The respective banding offices have similar functions and policies and use the same bands, reporting forms and data formats. This long-term dataset (1960-2023) consists of over 83 million bird banding, encounter and recapture records of over 1,000 species covered under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA). Data is contributed by US and Canadian bird banding permit holders: federal, state, tribal, local government, non-government agencies,...

Honey bees (Apis mellifera), a critical agricultural pollinator in many areas, have a high rate of infection with a large DNA virus, Apis mellifera filamentous virus (AmFV), yet little is known about its ecology or impact on honey bee colonies, other than its ubiquity and apparent low virulence. This study scanned over 5,000 public data sets to detect AmFV sequences in honey bees as well as a parasitic mite of honey bees, Varroa destructor, that is a potential vector of AmFV. The data release consists of these files: 1. AmFV.genome.assemblies.aligned.fas, which contains new AmFV draft genome sequences generated by this study aligned with existing reference genome accessions downloaded from the National Center for...

This is an antiquated version of the North American Bird Banding Program dataset that has been superseded by a more recent release. Unless visitors have a specific need for these archived data, they should return to the Main NABBP Dataset Page and choose the most recent data release, as that one will include all NABBP data released to date.

This data set describes nuclear microsatellite genotypes derived from eleven autosomal loci (Lar24, Lar12, Lar26, Lar19, Rbg13, K16, Rbg18, Hg18, Hg16, Hg25, Rbg29). A total of 651 Larus gulls were examined for this study with samples collected throughout North America, Europe, Russia, and South America.
These data and code were collected to support the development of a modeling framework that integrates local daily weather conditions and land cover with individual energetics and morphology to simulate mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) and northern pintail (Anas acuta) migration across the Northern Hemisphere. The simulated birds move across a discretized landscape of 20 by 20 mile nodes. Provided data and code allow for a model to simulate avian migration from September 1st, 2019, through December 31st, 2020. There are 6 zip files included in this data release. 1. MigrationModel_2023.zip contains the model code used to simulate bird movement. It requires the files NodeSpecificData_2019.txt and ENV_MAT.csv to function....

This data release provides the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Spectral Library Version 7 and all related documents. The library contains spectra measured with laboratory, field, and airborne spectrometers. The instruments used cover wavelengths from the ultraviolet to the far infrared (0.2 to 200 microns). Laboratory samples of specific minerals, plants, chemical compounds, and man-made materials were measured. In many cases, samples were purified, so that unique spectral features of a material can be related to its chemical structure. These spectro-chemical links are important for interpreting remotely sensed data collected in the field or from an aircraft or spacecraft. This library also contains physically-constructed...

As a result of a Latin American Coal Assessment, the USGS published the first Coal Map of South America (Weaver and Wood, 1994) and developed a cooperative inter-American exchange of geologic information which lead to a better understanding of the potential for coal resource utilization in the western hemisphere. This coal study was started by the late Gordon H. Wood, Jr. The original compilation, completed before his death, was a result of library research and it did not include updated information from scientists and others in the coal-bearing countries of South America. During the Fall of 1991, Jean N. Weaver visited Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, and Bolivia. The purpose...

The CoRE (Contractions or Range Expansions) database contains a library of published literature and data on species range shifts in response to climate change. Through a systematic review of publications returned from searches on Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus, we selected primary research articles that documented or attempted to document species-level distribution shifts in animal or plant species in response to recent anthropogenic climate change. We extracted data in four broad categories: (i) basic study information (study duration, location, data quality and methodological factors); (ii) basic species information (scientific names and taxonomic groups); (iii) information on the observed range shifts...

South America is part of Region 6 (Central and South America) for the World Energy Assessment. The geologic map of South America was digitized so that we could use the geology as a general guide to draw the boundaries of the geologic provinces of South America.

The East Pisco Basin is one of several forearc basins situated on the coastal plain of Peru between the Andean Cordillera and Peru-Chile Trench. During the Cenozoic, successive marine transgressions across the East Pisco Basin deposited sequences of Paleogene and Neogene age. Biochronologic studies suggest that a hiatus of approximately 12 million years (~32-20 Ma) separates the youngest Paleogene deposits from the oldest Neogene deposits. A newly recognized lower Miocene sequence, provisionally named the Tunga Formation, shortens that hiatus. The following database provides location and description of samples from the East Pisco Basin, checklists of microfossil assemblages, and taxonomic notes for those assemblages.
