These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. Digital surfaces and thicknesses of selected hydrogeologic units of the Floridan aquifer system were developed to define an updated hydrogeologic framework as part of the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program. This feature class contains contour lines generated from the MAPCU raster.

The 'Arizona #3' file is part of the Grover Heinrichs mining collection. Grover was the Vice President of Heinrichs GEOEXploration, located in Tucson, Arizona. The collection contains over 1,400 folders including economic geology reports, maps, photos, correspondence, drill logs and other related materials. The focus of much of the information is on the western United States, particularly Arizona, but the collection also includes files on mining activity throughout the United States, foreign countries, and 82 mineral commodities.

This data release presents zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS geochronology from igneous rocks exposed in a coastal exposure at Ursus Head, Iliamna C-2 Quadrangle. Sills and dikes exposed in a coastal exposure at Ursus Head are deformed within the Bruin Bay fault zone. Common dikes intruding late Triassic Kamishak Formation strata composing the hanging-wall of the Bruin Bay fault are cut by numerous small-scale, low-angle, bedding-parallel, and high angle contractional faults. Sample 09MAW006A collected from one of many dikes deformed in the fault zone produced a uni-modal distribution of zircon ages of with a weighted mean of 206.92 +/-0.96 (2 sigma, n=47) and an MSWD of 1.1. Sample 09BG020C collected from a sill of more mafic...

Okmok volcano, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, explosively erupted over a five-week period between July 12 and August 23, 2008. The eruption was predominantly phreatomagmatic, producing fine-grained tephra that covered most of northeastern Umnak Island. The eruption had a maximum Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of 4, with eruption column heights up to 16 km during the opening phase. Several craters and a master tuff cone formed in the caldera as a result of phreatomagmatic explosions and accumulated tephra-fall and surge deposits. Ascending magma continuously interacted with an extensive shallow groundwater table in the caldera, resulting in the phreatomagmatic character of the eruption. Syneruptive explosion and collapse...
Dataset contains digital versions of physical core logs housed in Missouri Geological Survey archives. The logs are variable in detail, ranging from simple locations and formation tops to extensive stratigraphic descriptions and chemistry. A portion were done by MGS staff; others were donated by industry, academia, and government entities. The dataset includes logs for mines or undeveloped deposits with occurrences of or potential for critical minerals, along with logs in areas with permissive geology. The dataset comprises three tables: header and location information; formation/stratigraphic top, bottom and written description; and geochemical and assay data.

This digital data release contains gridded elevation surfaces for twenty-six (26) subsurface horizons, a grid of the estimated thickness of strata eroded during the Cenozoic, and fault traces at the level of the Precambrian surface from a previously published 3D geologic model of the Anadarko Basin Province (Higley and others, 2014). In the original release of the 3D model, elevation surfaces were exported to a Zmap interchange file format, potentially limiting access to the data for users without access to specialized software. In this digital data release, elevation surfaces are provided in more readily accessible formats and modeled horizons are given more thorough stratigraphic descriptions than provided in...

This data release includes text files of well data and shapefiles of potentiometric contours of the Fort Union, Hell Creek, and Fox Hills aquifers within the Standing Rock Reservation. The data accompanies a USGS scientific investigations map from Anderson and Lundgren (2024). The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (the Tribe) of North and South Dakota and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) completed a comprehensive assessment of groundwater resources within the Standing Rock Reservation.Generalized potentiometric surfaces of the Fort Union, Hell Creek, and Fox Hills aquifers were constructed to assess the groundwater resources of the Standing Rock Reservation. Water-level data from the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater...
This collection consists of geological samples associated with the research of USGS Scientist Emeritus Michael J. Kunk. The collection contains rock samples stemming from Kunk’s earth science research in North America on geochronology, geochemistry, landscape evolution, volcanology, mineralogy, and structural geology. This collection contains four pallets of geological samples and materials.

This set of data files contains analyses of samples representing Triassic units (Shublik and Ivishak Formations and Karen Creek Sandstone) in Alaska. The samples were collected from 20 outcrop localities in northeastern Alaska. The data set includes total organic carbon (TOC) and geochemical data from inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy-mass spectroscopy (ICP-OES-MS) and portable X-ray fluorescence (p-XRF). The data presented here are described and interpreted in a paper titled "Facies Variation within Outcrops of the Triassic Shublik Formation, Northeastern Alaska".

Data consist of presence / absence records of planktic foraminifer species from 5 core samples at 3 localities in southeast Florida. Samples are placed in biostratigraphic zones and ages are estimated from calibrated first and last appearances of select taxa.

In many parts of the United States and around the globe, the instrumental earthquake record is insufficient to characterize seismic hazard or constrain potential ground motion intensities from individual sources. This lack of data is particularly acute for the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) of the U.S. Pacific Northwest, where paleoseismic evidence suggests a long history of large megathrust events. While evidence for pre-historic CSZ earthquakes has been discovered onshore and offshore Cascadia, the identification and dating of paleoliquefaction from pre-historic earthquakes offers the best potential for placing quantitative constraints on shaking intensities during past CSZ events. For this dataset, seven Cone...

Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA), located in central Alaska, is home to iconic and dynamic landscapes surrounding the tallest mountain range in North America, the Alaska Range. DENA preserves over 6 million acres of wild land that provides opportunities for recreation, subsistence hunting and gathering, preservation of cultural resources, and scientific research. Despite its size and popularity, DENA has only one road—the dead-end, 92-mile Denali National Park Road (hereafter referred to as the Park Road). The Park Road is mostly gravel; only the first 15 miles are paved. It is the only access for most DENA infrastructure, including visitor centers, staff facilities, campgrounds, and businesses. The Park...
